Makes perfect sense! We measure UVB & heat for chameleons so they can grow properly and digest their food, it only makes sense to measure our light sources to grow plants to their full potential. Great video!!
I am only half way through video, my question will there be a plant chart showing light requirements with variables, I am in Western Australia so the US zoning doesn’t apply.
This has always been my biggest gripe from most plant channels. I’m an analytical person so measurements are vital information for me. “Bright light near an east facing window”, is not a measure for me. Like was mentioned, how big a window, how close, what’s outside etc? I’ve asked many plant channels “do you know how much light they are getting?” and get “I’m not that scientific.” Same with grow lights. How much light are you getting? Many times I think the source is so far away it’s really not usable. I do prefer PPFD as a measure, but really, any commonality is better than what we currently talk about.
I hear you completely, and I am guilty of this wishy washy information myself. I am on the path to change and will begin to include light measures in my instructions. It is so important. I am so grateful to Darryl for talking with me.
I have always felt so overhwelmed by light. I wanted to spread plants out but have them sll clumped by the window. Even worried they might be getting too much light. Really looking forward to figuring all this out!
Just found you, just subbed, now will binge watch. I needed to know everything you know about Leca and about Hoyas. Those are my favorite plants. Thank you
@@TheLecaQueen thank you 🙏🏻. I am so excited I came across your channel. I scanned your videos and can’t wait to watch them all. Thank god I am retired to do that. I may have to hire a maid so I don’t have to clean. 🤣🤣😂😂
Wow amazing well thankfully I've been so lucky to not use any grow lights but if I do I can always turn back to this video. Thank you Ms. Nora for all your content...... :) Have you made Moss Wall 3.0 yet?? Look forward to watching your next one
Ms. Nora. Thank you! I too am glad you chose him to explain and clarify the importance of light. So informative. I appreciate the breakdown into layman's terms. Very grateful for this information and all videos you do. Keep them coming
Thank you for your kind words. As I said to Darryl, you are the light guy. I had to go to the light guy to get more information about light. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I love your channel and I love Darryl…. this video has perfect timing as I’m getting my plants nestled in for the winter with my grow lights, I’m in Southwestern Michigan, USA. I can appreciate the FC numbers because grow lights are not created equal. I have some that are bright white (blinding if you see it), and some that have the warmer glow (but still put out decent FC #s, I think 🤔). I’m going to look at your chart now, thank you Darryl. I can’t seem to find this information anywhere, but I use rainwater in the summer for all of my houseplants, do I need to add fertilizer to the rainwater?
Great video with Darryl, thank you Nora. I cannot wait to know your numbers. Setting plants for winter now and looking for infos. I have downloaded Darryl's chart though, I am interested in other people's numbers. Meanwhile happy growing ! 🌱🪴🌴💚

Exactly!!
That was a lot of information! My conclusion is that I definitely need more grow lights. 😮
Probably, but you also need a light meter so you can know exactly where to place your plants.
The light has always been a problem for me. Direct/indirect…high/low…what does that mean exactly? So much great information, and so needed. Thank you!
totally agree, like is a east facing window in Ohio the same as an east facing window in Arizona???? so many variables

@@margaretfort8286 what variables exactly do you have in m mind?
@@dollycaldwell4938 I know, the information was just not specific enough! I say all that too! Bright indirect light! What the heck does that mean?
You are very welcome. I think this is information we all need, I was taking notes like crazy!

Can you use terracotta pots instead of the transparent plastic pot that goes inside the cache pot?
I was just gifted some "goldfish plants" Do you think they would do well in LECA under grow lights?
I have seen them grown in leca so I don't see why not
I will let you know how it goes....or doesn't...LOL
Do grow lights need to be from the top only or do you need them coming from the sides also?
I think it depends on what you have available.
What light meter do you recommend to use?
There are lots on the market, I have only used the one that Darryl designed. See the link in the video description.
👍🏼

I am so glad you enjoyed it. I am still having a play with my light meter, I will be showing my numbers soon!
