Gurez valley lies along the LOC in northern part of Kashmir, situated at about 8000 feet. It is 146 km from Srinagar. It is very safe and peaceful place.

Gurez valley is extremely picturesque, as the Kishanganga river comes dashing along through a rich meadow, partly covered with lindens, and walnut trees, while the mountains on either side present nothing but a succession of most abrupt precipices, and wooden lodges, covered with fir trees.
This valley was once a part of ancient Silk Route, which connected the Kashmir Valley with Gilgit, before continuing further to Kashgar.

Best time to visit Gurez Valley is between April to September. After that the temperature starts dipping but depending on the weather condition, you can plan your trip in October as well. Nevertheless, the weather during this time period is pleasant and bearable; the average temperature ranges about 15-20 degrees Celsius, which is ideal to explore the place, clicking gram worthy pictures and enjoying the adventure activities like river rafting.
In winters, temperatures fall to as low as -10°C. The area is cutoff from the other parts of India for almost six months following heavy snowfall. Razdan Pass, which is the gateway to this mountainous valley, records around 10-15 feet snow and becomes the main reason for the closure of the road.
You can also visit here during the three-day Gurez Festival. It is one of the best way to explore and know more about the art, culture, and heritage of the place. Local people and tribes come together to celebrate the beauty and culture of this place.

There is no Pak-occupied Kashmir but Indian occupied Kashmir as in Pakistan people are free from Karachi to Chamman to visit Gurez or any other part of Kashmir without seeking any permission from Pakistan Army while in real occupied Kashmir (Indian) one has to get various permissions to reach different places. Pakistan has not deployed one million military persons to control Kashmir but India has deputed over a million security persons.
From river to the sea Kashmir will be free.
