    Bought the 2018 Giant Contend SL 2 Disc about three weeks ago. I'd been riding a 2017 Tomasso Tiempo, which I love, for over a year now but decided I wanted to 'upgrade' slightly since I was starting to get a little serious about my cycling. I searched a long time before I settled on the Giant Contend. I ordered it from another local bike shop as mine didn't have the bike in the color I wanted. When the bike came in I wasn't disappointed. It's a beautiful bike and I couldn't wait to ride it. Unfortunately, I work shift work and so I didn't get a chance to really 'test' ride it until the day of a bike event I'd been preparing for several weeks in advance. The bike rode like a dream! That is, until 4 miles into the race, I realized that I was starting to really 'feel' the cracks in the road from my rear tire. When I got off my bike and checked the rear, I found 'white' crap had been slung all over my saddle bag and the rear of the bike. I didn't know what it was until I got off the course and removed the tire off the rim and saw the rest of the sealant inside 'STILL' not doing what it was designed to do...seal off a puncture. Now when the puncture happened mind you, I was right on the heels of 1st place and feeling pretty good about the pace so far! The tire looked to be actually 'cut' by some gravel that 100+ cyclists rode over. My bike was the only Giant there and out of all those different bike brands on scene who also had to ride over that same very short stretch of gravel, I was the ONLY one who got a flat that day!! Luckily, a LBS owner who sponsored the event that day, was also riding in support of the ride and came by with a tube and expertise to help me get back on the road. Needless to say, "These tires gotta go!!!" I've ridden my Tomasso Tiempo for over a year, through all kinds of road crap and through road debris after hurricane Harvey and I have yet to have ONE flat on it. I have my first flat on a brand new, more expensive, and supposedly better designed Giant. Don't get me wrong, I love the bike. Love it!! But the tires...I'll be nice and say, "I ain't a fan. Not AT ALL!!"

    Hello Giant, in this video you recommend 30ml of sealant for tyres < 28c. I just purchased your TCR adv pro 1 that comes with said wheelset and tubeless tyres. Will it impact negatively on the tyre or the wheelset if I were to put 60ml of Giant's sealant into the valve core? Thanks for replying

    I'm about to get a giant bike with tube ready tyres. 6 summers on a halfords carrera special and never had a flat. This routine seems like a load of hassle and deffo can't be done at the roadside. Does the giant tubeless tyres come with inner tubes in?

    • @theonlyguills
      @theonlyguills Před 3 lety +3

      I'm late to reply but I've been riding this every day to work and for fun for 4 years. It is much less hassle than tube as you don't have to stop or fix most punctures as they seal themselves. I've had a couple flats while riding on punctures that were odd shaped and wouldn't seal. I carry a tubeless kit (its like thick gooey string that you run through the puncture with a pick). This takes 10 seconds and will usually allow the sealant to do its job. You pump it back up (I use co2) and ride home. On some punctures that just look weak, once I'm home I'll fix them from the inside. I clean the tire, add rubber cement, dry and put a patch from the inside of the tire. I haven't had one go bad yet.

    but what happens if you had a puncture or leak during your ride? how long will it take to repair and what special tools you need to bring when riding? unlike a conventional tire you just need an extra inner tubes and some patches about 10 mins or less your riding back again...

      @drouleau Před 6 lety +1

      A friend of mine had a flat on his brand new Giant with tubeless on his second ride, and required putting in a spare tube - it took around 15'ish minutes as the valve stem wasn't coming out very easily and none of us were familiar with the setup at the time. As we learned, a good idea is also to put in a pair of latex gloves (like the Park Tool ones) in your seat bag as the sealant is pretty sticky on your hands.

    Can these tubeless tyres be inflated with a normal floor pump, or do you need one of those high volume tanks for rapid inflation?

    • @mikemorris3421
      @mikemorris3421 Před 6 lety

      I use a normal track pump and see no reason to see why not, I think having an accurate gauge is the most important as I suspect too high a pressure could be an issue with no tube.

      Mububban23 says:
      "Can these tubeless tyres be inflated with a normal floor pump, or do you need one of those high volume tanks for rapid inflation?"
      ==
      The way I understand it, large volume air supply is needed only once after the installation until the beads seat on the rim.
      To top off the pressure regularly, you can use the regular floor pump or even portable mini pump if you don't mind many pumpings.

    • @theonlyguills
      @theonlyguills Před 3 lety

      You can use a normal floor pump for most things except the initial seating of the bead. For this you need a pretty good flow of air that will still push the tire against the rim even though it's leaking from everywhere. You don't need a compressor though, if you don't have a special pump, just use co2 cartridges. It's a couple bucks to seat a tire and then you're done.
