President of the Federated States of Micronesia David Panuelo has written a letter condemning China's involvement in the affairs of Pacific Islands nations and its threats against Taiwan. He also met with Joseph Wu, Taiwan's foreign minister, to discuss potential diplomatic relations.

yes and no; there is a lot that can be done within 3 months with less restraint.
There is a possibility that the new administration may walk back on the decision so talking to *both* together will be ideal instead of one or the other~
He is still the president of Micronesia during this time.
It would however be concerning if Beijing financially backed the new administration in return for military/surveillance base-etc
Beijing don't throw $$$/etc to affect other countries internally without a purpose, especially when it already has the state recognition.

The favorite to win the presidency is someone who was known to work well with the PRC.

As an FSM citizen, I support President Panuelo's statements and opinions in his letter. My state of Yap is notoriously known for its strong suspicions towards the PRC, and we welcome his message

The PRC is not a country the FSM should be aligning with. Taiwan in the other hand, has many reasons why diplomatic relation makes perfect sense.
