From monster dunks, contested threes, memes, crime, and the oddest behavior you'll see from an NBA player, today we cover the curious case of JR Smith.

He had all the tools and skills to be an all star, it’s just mentality and work ethic that held him back. Regardless he’s a multiple time champion and played for over a decade. Had more than a solid career.
@@thatv8life186 yes he did and a champ's a champ. Obviously being a top 3 player on a championship team is different but winning a championship takes good role players also
@@thatv8life186 what should role players not get credit? Did they not work hard too? MJ on his own would've been the best of his era sure but with Scottie, Rodman, Kerr, Steve and etc. he managed to become arguably the greatest to ever do it. Basketball's a team sport, don't matter how good someone is, it takes 5 to even be in the game
Y'all make it seem like he has a tragic story he came straight outta highschool started on 2 championship teams and got to play with some of the greatest of all time
I love JR. Guy came to Cleveland as a “throw in” and was a beast for a couple seasons. Won my city a ship. Always love the guy even through his troubles
I will always look at jr as a what if. Not because he didn’t have a good career. But with his skill set man could have been an all time great. I think he was more athletic than Kobe and had the shooting of arenas. MANNNN he could have been in the top 10 of all time shooting guards
Big facts some may scoff at this notion but those of us who saw Jr particularly in his younger days know physically he had all the tools great leaper fluid, shifty and quick with the ball tremendous shooting mechanics solid ball handler although he could have worked on dribbling with his left hand a bit more it's just that he didn't have it where it matters most and that's upstairs and their are guys who often come a long in the league like that over the years guys who are just as gifted physically or from a skillset perspective as the stars and super stars of the league but are missing a few things mentally to take them into that star realm all that said jr still had a good career all thinfs considered but part of me wonders what would have happend had his father not gotten ill and he was able to actually attend college where presumably his game and mindset would mature
one of the most misunderstood players imo.. if he would have gone to college and had a good coach during it i think it would have gone very differently in the league.
Yeah possibly but even judging on his highschool scouting report he always had some issues with discipline, iq and his motor those are things that certain coaches can help with but ultimately fixing those type of issues is on the player I do think that if JR was humbled during his younger days and aloud to grow from that that it may have helped with the issues he had a bit
Played against him when he play at st benedict in High school in this basketball tournament in Kentucky. 8th grade OJ Mayo, Michael Bush, aaron affalo was there and so was Peter aromas 7 foot 4. Good times
His notable moments were : In the Nuggets , Knicks , Cavs. Beyond his infamous 2018 Finals , JR Smith was a dunker , 3pt specialist and even makes crazy shots 😮 His accolades weren't that much , 12-13 Sixth Man . 2x Champ . But we also appreciate him 😊
I maintain jr smith has one of the best career mixtapes of all time. If you show someone who doesn't watch ball his highlights they'd think he dominated for years.
Heh - good choice! JR made for an entertaining player and a good documentary. Also, I forgot he became a college golf player upon retirement because he never played any sport in the NCAA... This guy has had a fun life actually, minus the intense personal guilt he is stuck with over losing his friend.
I would never call JR a bad player. Mentally he’s not always locked in which is is flaw. But dude was in the running for 6th man every year for a reason.
If JR could have just been consistent he would have been an all star nearly every year of his career. Probably never an ALL NBA level player, but he could’ve been everything you could ever ask for in a co-star
When JR got hot he was at superstar levels. He only tended to get that hot at home though, really streaky player. He was killing the Lakers in the 09 playoffs, refs had to step in and save the Lakers from those Nuggets
czcams.com/video/UCer3BfXXfY/video.html : J.R. had half the minutes of Najera and 20 less than Kleiza and outscored them both and both played worse, and was backing up Iverson who led the team in minutes. They were being guarded by Bruce Bowen and Manu Ginobili. J.R. didn't even play in Game 5. I think this one was more on the coach than the players. Also, Carmelo may have shot well, but he took the second most shots on the team and only had 6 assists in 5 games. He also got outplayed by Michael Finley who dropped 26 on him in Game 5 on 8 of 9 from three.
@@johndavis9321rodman stuck with what he was good at he knew he was a rebound machine and stuck with that now it definitely would have been a what if had he tried to do more shooting combined with his rebounding
When was jr smith ever bad? Yall forgetting he played a roll in that 2016 finals run and not to mention he came outta highschool 😂😂no nba player ever has said jr was “bad”
I thought you’re going to use my title for this one. Either way, JR Smith was underrated. Yes people know him for game 1 of the 2018 finals and all other high stuffs he did. But he was a high-flyer back in his Denver and New York days.
The JR Smith incident is rather similar to Buckner through the legs. At least it wasn't a game 7. But all things considered it really did hinder their respective team for the remainder of each series
@@kylepatillo5071bro there’s a lot of shooting guards bro, is jr better than Mitch Richmond, Tmac, Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, George Gervin? Hell I wouldn’t even put jr over Michael redd.
jr smith was an AVERAGE player not facing legends like jerry west larry bird magic johnson michael jordan kareem abdul-jabbar oscar robertson bill russell and wilt chamberlain
You literally named like 10 players from four different decades, ten players. There's very few all time great players and every era has a few of them. Jr Smith played most of his career against a defensive NBA, so you need to give him that. It's not like he's played his entire career post-2016 when Adam Silver's NBA started refereeing the game in a way that handcuffs defense. And JR was above average, he may not have been an all star but he was definitely above average when he was cooking
@@youtuber3328 Yeah I agree, but there are players from every era who can hang in any era. Even guys like Giannis today, but I don't evaluate players in the post 2015 era like I do the players before that, since the game changed drastically after 2015 due to Adam Silvers league changing the way the game is played, obviously it's hard to give a player today the same props since the game is so soft. But Jr Smith did play against real defense in the 2000's and he was able to cook guys when he was hot, very streaky shooter though ofc. Still though if we're talking eras, if we put every player ever to play in their prime into a talent pool to get drafted into a defensive league, guys like Bron, Giannis, Kawhi (When he actually played full seasons) would still be beasts
I like this channel otherwise, but I'm getting increasingly tired of the endless excuses for some of the most vile, screwed-up, dysfunctional, and criminal players to ever be in the NBA. And you've truly reached the apotheosis of it here with JR Smith. Smith drove drunk or high for years until finally murdering his 21 year-old friend, for which he only received the lightest slap on the wrist imaginable. Yet, you spin this into a SYMPATHETIC event for him!? "It's hard to not feel bad for all parties involved!" I understand separating sportsball play from the degeneracy of these guys off the court, but condoning and sympathizing with a murderer is repugnant.
