preamp review - Hudba
Thanks for your honest review, and you're correct those are very strange design choices even though I could see how it could be useful to someone with limited means.
They had me at VU meters, they lost me at volume control on the back. What the heck? I guess the meters took up too much space. I hope you had a great Christmas and 2024 treats you great!
Happy holidays to you as well!
For desktop use it's no problem. It keeps the front clean. Most people will use this as a budget phono amp with an extra input. That's why the input select is on the front.
Very well thought out. They listen to their customers.
I only wish the jrc opamp was in a socket.
I'm not against considering budget gear but this one I have no desire to try! Good job on the review👍 Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for watching. Merry Christmas to you as well!
It's a phono preamp mainly. For anyone who bought a turntable this is either a must or an upgrade. The headphone output and aux is just an extra. So are the vu-meters. Most Chinese budget amps have only one input and this allows you to add a turntable to a dac. For most people that's enough. And for the price you get a very decent phono. Better than any western phono-amp at this price.
I think this item was primarily designed to be used on a desktop connected to a PC/MAC (hence the lack of wall brick), also the volume control being located at the rear wouldn't matter as you would just set it to maximum and use the PC/MAC's volume control instead, not something I would buy as no remote, also those flashing lights would be fun for about 5 secs then turned off forever, thanks for the vids and Merry Xmas/ Happy New year.
Excellent points thank you! Happy holidays!
Is a the phono implemented using a digital or analog circuit?
This is not just a party box. The phono is really good. I just bought this for a friend. I payed only €75 btw (that's incl 21% tax). I have a Gold Note PH10 myself. I also bought the T4 pro (with tube buffer and MC) a little earlier. I like this better. The tubes just add a warm veil. This one sounds clear and even.
Also the extra input is a real bonus. Most cheap amps only have one input, so now you can just add vinyl next to your digital input without sonic penalty and still get to party with the VU-meters.
You can also run this off a usb battery pack which makes it even quieter! I tested it and that made a huge difference in hum.
I tried a lot of cheap Chinese phono stages and this one is (one of) the best with a useful extra input.
I opened it up yesterday and the insides are simple and clean SMD mount. The aux is just pass-through by a relais. The phono uses a JRC2068 opamp, the HP uses the NE5532.
I like your reviews. You deserve more views!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching
Lol........................... Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas as well!
Can I pair this preamp with the Vidar amp from Schiit?
Yep
USB ports on TVs can be used to power devices like this too. I find my Modi dac sounds better when powered by my tv USB port than plugged into the wall.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
That is just 1 option.
The usb power also allows you to use a power bank. That makes it even quieter. I tried it and it works great.
Is it wacky that the output says "line" out instead of "pre" out?
No. It is a line output to connect to an integrated amplifier that only has one input, which many Chinese budget amps are like.
Volume on the back....? - Way to deal-break!
The casing seems to be going for a 'retro audiophile' vibe - so why the lights?? They should have gone 'the whole hog' and provided the case in a choice of wacky colours - even so, the volume belongs on the front...
Any meter switches like this that can do bi-amping and also switch to normal stereo?
I only ever see a single stereo output.
I'm not aware of any that can bi-amp, sorry.
@ForeverAnalog thank you, I might just build one :) as I find it difficult to use such a device.
Do you mean switching between two amplifiers? For example, NEOHIPO ET30 or DOUK VU2?
@Kevin-sh1sx I'm bi amping with one side and normal stereo in the other side. So, three amps in total , but just two systems in total . Which I want to switch between the two .
@@itisjustacomment Does using a dual amplifier on one side mean outputting four channel audio? Is there a quad channel/8 SPEAKER ports available? Is the dual channel side connected to the AVR?
The volume control and headphone seems like an afterthought and reminds me of pictures of buildings in china with the staircases leading into a wall. I can imagine the company telling the designers it needs VU meters RGB volume control phono preamp headphone amp etc and make sure it fits in this box . Designers said "uh ...ok." and this is the result. Job done boss.
I find it is very well thought out. It is made for people on a budget. The headphone output is a simple NE5532 opamp that you see on many devices and works ok for any HP under $100.
The main use will be adding a phono input without losing an input. Most budget class D amps only have 1 input.
Would someone tell me why I would need a preamp?
I have a full video on what is a preamp on my channel but in short, I use one to connect multiple sources, control volume and possibly have tone controls.
I bought it for a friend who has a simple integrated amp with only 1 input so she can play her records and connect the TV. Many Chinese budget amps only have one input. But they sound better than 90% of 'vintage' (ie old) amps I've encountered.
Well I guess it is a party pre-amp with eyes on it without teeth. Today is Christmas so how fitting.
It definitely has its own vibe lol
Nope. Lights aside it's a serious phono preamp on a budget. I opened it up and it has a very clean but simple layout.
That volume control on the back is a flat-out deal breaker.
They spent so much space on the silly vu meters they had to put the good stuff on the back.
It’s definitely an odd spot for it!
Is this an American company? Thanks
No, Chinese for sure.
Chinese is correct
@@mikecampbell5856 Thanks guys
Possibly designed on Mars..
Come on… I don’t want to see your face !
Noted, lol
Looks toy like, ill stick to fosi audio
It's not a toy. I opened it up. Best sound under $100. And some above...
