That was Neilson Powless’ dad’s motto when he was growing up. Every weekend, Neilson’s mom and dad would take him and his older sister Shayna to swim, bike, and run in races around California. Their mom was an Olympic marathoner and their dad was a competitive triathlete in the Air Force, but together they always made sure that sports were fun first. All that play made Neilson and Shayna fast. Now, they are both professional cyclists.
Neilson is about to become a father himself; his wife, Frances, is pregnant. Frances is a ballerina. She is his lead. With Frances, Neilson can dance over the ups and downs of life as a professional sportsman. Far away from home, Neilson and Frances are still learning how to keep doing the things that they love. Frances has learned about cycling, as Neilson has learned about ballet. Becoming parents is about to change their lives. What they know is that they will always keep playing together, because they are going to stay together.

Man does this tug at the heart strings. I have been where Frances is only my husband was in the Army and when he got orders to Germany I had to leave everything behind. It helped that I was a former soldier so I understood and accepted having to move but it's a lot different when it's to another country, culture and language. Frances, honey, you are not defined by your husband's job but by your willingness to be by his side and support him AND finding your way in a life you weren't expecting. That takes more strength and courage than most people realize.
The sacrifices made by this entire family are why Neilson's parents are still married, why Neilson and his sister are so well adjusted and it's why Neilson and Frances will succeed in their marriage, with raising kids and in life in general. In a world where individualism is promoted ad nauseam (and as a result so many marriages, relationships and friendships crumbling to dust) it's beyond refreshing to see this family living life as we're meant to- for each other. Is it easy? No, but it is worth it.

This is the best video content a cycling team has ever put out, hands down. His parents and wife are absolutely gold, Neilson is very lucky to have them.

It was awesome to hear the perspective of Francis. I couldnt imagine how hard that would be to leave dreams and go to Europe. I love how this film was made showing the crazy strong support around Neilson. Also judging his career based on how ready he is to be post career is wise as hell. Bring that fire at the tour!
I'm super gratefull to be apart of this project by doing the audio mixing. This is a great story with genuine people showing that the support network goes beyond the team and sacrifices are made by everyone in and out of the spotlight.

I’ve been following Nielson (literally) since he was 19. I thought I knew him but this video truly demonstrates why he is the amazing person he is. Knowing his background makes us all love him even more. To see clips of this video played during the broadcast today was incredible. This family deserves all the support and praise we can give.
