My dad bought Secret of Mana for the Nintendo Super Entertainment System back in the early 90s. Of course the PC players would get stuck and you'd have to back track to get them off of a bush.... But the music was incredible and the colors were so beautiful and the characters had a great look and feel.
My dad also purchased Secret of Evermore and he convinced us it was the sequel to SoM.
I was hooked. Years later my dad traded SoM and most of his older games and consoles for .... The SEGA Saturn.... Which I loved dearly, but my God... I missed the Super Nintendo....
Later on I rented SoM from Movie Stop, I used my lunch money and rented it long enough that the owner said I paid for that game.... But he wouldn't give it to me. Lol
I emulated games that I missed and stumbled across Seiken Densetsu 3 or as fans called it .. SoM 2.... What was Seiken Densetsu...1??
It sent me down a rabbit hole and I eventually played every game in the franchise and owned them at one point....SNES Trials of Mana is the best! But Chrono Trigger is hands down the best SNES RPG.

I'm glad that we're getting new games from long running series that have been forgotten. It was the same thing with Star Ocean. There's all kinds of new technology and I'm happy to see new games instead of the constant stream of remakes and remasters. Good on you, Sqeenix. 😃👍
That said, I've never really been a Mana fan. (PLEASE DON'T HIT ME!!!) Much like the Saga games, I feel like they don't really have a defining mechanic or style that you see and say, "Yep, that's a Mana game." Hopefully this will help establish that style for a new generation of fans.
It's nice to see this smaller type of videos. You're an enthusiastic gamer, and when you're happy, it's good to share it with the community. Not everything needs to be doom and gloom. I know they don't get as many views, but you seem to enjoy making them. Good work!

The first Mana game I played was Children of Mana on Nintendo DS. It was a fun actiona RPG, it felt really charming. I got that LoZ: Alttp fix, that was later reinforced with Diablo 3, although it had a darker theme, a huge contrast from the Mana games. I've revisited Trials of Mana on Nintendo Switch. I really wish there were more online components.

The Trials of Mana remake is legit (a lot less fond of the Secret of Mana remake). I had played the original Trials of Mana back around 2000 when it got fan translated and yet I think that the remake is definitely the definitive version (unless two player is important to you in which case you'll need to stick with the original). Between it and the Star Ocean 2 remake last year, Square has made some really fantastic gold standard remaster/remakes. I give modern Square a lot of grief but to their credit, they still put out some really great stuff.

I've never had any experience with the Mana games, but I did play the demo for Trials of Mana on PS4 some odd years back, and it was actually much more fun than I expected it to be. I had no expectations because I didnt know anything about the game. I just saw the demo and thought the art and gameplay looked cool. My PlayStation is bricked now, so I never ended up getting the full game, but I am looking to get a new gaming Laptop soon, so maybe I'll get it on there during a sale or something. Too many games in the current release schedule to play right now, but it'll be something I can jump into whenever because i am always looking forward to playing good JRPGs, and I definitely want to support the company. I been saying forever on here now, but I really do love Square Enix, and I want to see them succeed, so i will definitely spend so money on this.
Now even though I grew up playing old retro games, I tend to find them difficult to go back to just because the lack of modern features and hardware limitations really diminishes my experience normally, so if I play any of those other games, it'd at least have to be the handheld remakes they did. I'd be happy to support the classic Mana collection they released on Switch in a perfect world, but these games are getting expensive, and i know I wouldnt play that. They still have a customer in me, though because I definitely want to play this new game. just the small bit we saw already looks awesome. I'm looking forward to them releasing real gameplay with the HUD, and start actually talking about the game.

I know my Genshin bias is on display, but I do believe the success of the game is why we are seeing a revival of the action RPG genre.
Look, I know Genshin has its own issues which I will not get into, but when I finally put my skepticism aside and picked up the game, I have never looked back since. In terms of gameplay and presentation, Hoyo knocked it out of the park. Then you also have to remember that Genshin was built with the mobile platform in mind, and while Genshin has console and PC ports, it has not yet fully tapped into the potential offered by much powerful graphics cards found within consoles. If a low poly-ish game (I datamined the 3D models, the details are in the textures) can look this good, what if a similar game decide to actually tap into the potential of stunning visuals. Granblue Fantasy Relink, a somewhat similar game in terms of gameplay, has set the bar pretty high in terms of presentation, and this game was designed with the PS in mind. Right now, the ball is in Square Enix's court to match what Hoyo and Cygames have brought to the table.

Interestingly, I've been replaying Trials of Mana after the VoM trailer. I never did the No Future difficulty mode as I was burned out at the time, but am enjoying it again. I also changed to the Japanese voices to change it up.
I'm not really sure I'm too hopeful of VoM changing it up, but rather, catering to the old fans. It still seems to try for the 90s aesthetic and I can imagine the story would still be very 90s. Not that that's horrible; blatantly evil guy (or faction(s)) must pay, near tunnel vision heroes focused mostly on getting stronger to defeat the bad guy with minor character development. But with SEnix's other titles having amazing writing, explaining the why the bad guys are evil, giving heroes many layers of complex backstory and character progression, I would love to see VoM go in that direction to show us that the series is growing, instead of remaining stagnant.
I do wonder if couch co-op will ever truly come back for the series, that's what made the SNES versions pretty fun, but I'm just being too hopeful on that end. With this next one being more expansive, and seamless co-op seemingly being a new version of couch co-op (The elden ring seamless co-op mod and Lords of the Fallen come to mind), this may be something VoM may implement? Who knows.
Can't wait in any case, but 17 titles? I'll need to find the ones I haven't played yet and finish those up first.

However for some strange reason I haven't played the game ever. A few years ago I bought day one the Mana collection on Switch and still haven't played. Is a game that have been on my list to play for decades but there is always this other game. Right now Im over 30 hours on Tales of Arise, once I finish it will grab Secrets of Mana. I think we're getting the golden age of videogames back for us old time fans and hopefully generations to come as companies are now listening to us instead of pandering to joykilling crap smokers with an ugly stick up their bungholes turning our pastimes into liquid shit. I think Square Enix are beginning to relearn how to respect the fandoms of JRPGs and Trials of Mana is a good start to rigthing a lot of the recent wrongs at the studio.

Overall liked it a lot, but could not f*cking stand how useless the AI partners are, especially in boss fights, among other things. Hopefully Visions improves on everything and guarantees the series thrives.
