Mayer was extraordinarily prolific around 1850, it seems: we have this concerto, a bunch of overtures, and four symphonies (2-5) all dating from the years 1847-1852. The symphony played here was reconstructed by Stefan Malzew, and I think that's the version played here as well. Personally, I don't think the concerto is among her best works: I get the sense that she was hampered by the requirements of the genre, and the result sounds rather more conventional than I'm used to from her. But the symphony is a fine work.

Liebe Heghine, das Werk von Emilie Mayer hast Du am Bösendorfer hervorragend interpretiert, danke für das Erlebnis. Endlich werden Werke der vergessenen Komponistinnen der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Ich wünsche dem FSOA für die Zukunft viel Erfolg! Ich freue mich schon auf Deine Interpretation der Passacaglia C Dur meiner Wiener Urgroßtante Mathilde Kralik (1857-1944) zum Konzert im Schloss Goldegg am 12.11.2020 um 20 Uhr. Angeblich ohne Zuschauer aber das Konzert wird im Ö1 "Apropos Klassik" ausgestrahlt. Herzlichst Rochus
