I saw this movie and it is truly scary to think this was a true story , my heart breaks for all the people who suffered in that compound .
A friend of us was there. She is so brave and it's such a shame that they suffered for such a long time without being rescued.... It made me cry
Emily Bißmann she was tortured/abused at the colony?
This is only a small part of the atrocities that were committed in Chile during this time.

Can you believe that one of the guys who helped to organize Colonia Dignidad is now the Chilean (non-democratically elected) Vice President? It’s so sad, those poor people have to see him all day on Tv
Emma Watson...the reason I clicked

+Darriana Ratcliff same
That's the girl who played that one main girl in Harry potter
+Tsunami Teiken1234 I just noticed that lol

Why is this movie so underrated? It has phenomenal acting from everyone. It has romance, drama and thriller. All that you want in a movie.
Not sure what you mean by underrated? Has great ratings all over the place.. It's been praised by everyone who has seen it.
Underrated is the absolute opposite of what this movie is.
If you mean "Why does not more people talk about it?"
Maybe because the budget did not allow for more PR than what was given?
Blame the PR. Not the ratings.
i think its more to do with the extent of the many various cult organisations (like the "worlwide assemblies of god" having increasingly more political and social power acting in accordance with game theory to stop thier members getting a glimps of some of the the mechanism by which they are being hoodwinked by thier money hungry leadership
its because there is truth behind it true movies always have bad ratings
It was one of the best films I've ever watched - phenomenal acting, writing, directing, cinematography, etc. I think some people just can't handle the truth.
@@RetroGamingSweden it has a 14% rotten tomato score. That’s what they mean by underrated.
As a Christian I love when movies show the dark side and reveal how screwed up anyone can be, regardless of what they "claim" to believe in and follow... makes me sick.
This is the real face of Christianity, by the book
@@Suzaku33 You're an ignorant fool..
@@Suzaku33 Are you saying the movie is, or this person's comment?
I really hate how some people try to use religion as an excuse to control people. Remember that incident where that priest practically made a whole town drink poisoned kool aid? It's so fucked up and makes me angry because it ruins the image of what religion is supposed to be
Brownie101abc this is a cult in this movie
I remember, well I wasnt born then that was jonestone (guyana but the cult was American) and there were like 900 dead people some force, most of them have being food deprived for months and were so tired they were not coherent, also not real review were done to each body there is a recording of a lady that did opposed and was kill anyway, this stuff should be teach in schools so we dont fall for that, the leader even had a congress member/ senator and others that were leaving kill on the airport children were poison too more than like 30 kids were kill the reason the congress man or senator was there was becuase concern family memembers had push for it and a former member had declare in public hearing that this might happen if they didnt intervine
Did that happen? I didn't know about that.
This is exactly what religion was made to do lol a list of rules to control and shape inhumanly people's lives. All that BS about guidance and love is an absolute distraction. What you see here is the premise religion was created by people with ambition for power, and my reason for waking the f*k up and denouncing it.
@@ohno7775 angry atheist that cant respect other religions i see
Sooner or later Emma Watson is going to win an Oscar
Dro gon she needs to
On the way. If the other side, but it will not only did he do it for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for you, I will have the ability for
Yea she needs to she,s one of the best actresses in the world we all grew up with her from Harry potter besides those films she,s done great with a bunch of other movies beauty and the beast wallflower and now this she needs to win an oscar.
Oscar?? What a joke
Amen😁
This movie was so tough, can't believe most of the films is based on real events.
Baltazar Zuñiga Cervantes it’s the world we live in 🤷🏻♀️
And that's not even the half of what really happened in Chile
Noran Stump well no mate, it isn’t.
+Almendra Krainz Totally! this guys they were in Disneyland compare what happen all the rest of the Country
Ricardo Díaz it didnt happen in the whole country
The movie is based on the special cult of a German priest, Paul Schäfer, who after WW2 had taken his followers to Chile and established a camp there - "Colonia Dignidad". All kids born there had been separated from their families, all residents had backbreaking forcible workload each day. Though a sexual abuser, cruel man, Schäfer had established a good reputation for the camp, built relations with Chilean authorities, built a formidable fence around the camp to prevent escaping. During the Pinochet regime, the camp facilities, Schäfer's special techniques had been used to torture political activists. Though the camp doesnt work now, the Chilean authorities still haven't conducted necessary prosecution
Toghrul Novruzlu it's now called Villa Baviera. You should watch Hunting Hitler on the history channel it's very interesting, they believe this camp was hiding Hitler after WW2 amongst other high value Nazi's, I'm about to watch the film now
there was actually a long prosecusion, but at the end most of the people in charge escape and seek refuge in Germany, see the case of Helmut Hopp, he stills go to church every Sunday in Krefeld and gets social money, even though he is convicted in Chile for sexual abuses
The leader started as a pastor's disciple in Germany before building this cult. He wasn't a priest nor a pastor affiliated to any protestant church.
@@MariaMartinez-researcher I'm glad you mention this point. I fear sometimes that movies like this and cult leaders misrepresent God's character. God would never okay such treatment in his name.
Thank you I was wondering what the story was behind it
Love that she still got that unique Hermonie’s strength in her. That’s what makes her stand out and makes every movie she’s in so brilliant.
While everybody is talking about Emma, I think Mikael Nyqvists performance was outstandingly haunting in the film
they were both the best parts
Yes , He played amazing
Exactly
Being from Chilean nationality seeing Emma Watson in this makes me happy :)
This looks F'd up but then again it looks soo good.
yeah
Like 12 Years of Slave.
its real
+Compton S
This is a prequel to Regression.
Confirmed, my sources are never wrong.
+Compton S Argentina's doctatorship was no joke man. So many fucked up shit happened. And everything just because the military didnt want "socialism" here as it was going to become some "communism form" ... you will never guess who supported this shit... yeah that country. But that was 40 years ago so thats that. Emma watson for the win!
I didn't know anything about colonia dignidad before this film...
Same here... Crazy how some things are left hidden with no one talking about it, even today.
me too... and it happenned in MY OWN COUNTRY
El tema de Colonia Dignidad fue bien comentado a finales de los 90. Puede que no te hayas enterado porque eras muy chica, o aun no nacias. Muchos chilenos conocen el nombre de Paul Schaefer.
Watch Hunting Hitler on the History Channel. They came across Colonia Dignidad while hunting what escape routes Hitler may have used, if he didn't die in Germany.

Just watched this on Netflix it was really good. Its based on a true story. Its so many cultd around the world that treat people like this and they never escape. Very heartwrenching to say the least.
This movie is soo great. 10 points for Netflix
No,10 points for the director and the people behind it.not Netflix.
@Novarden never too late to correct someone
its not even on netflix? At least not where i live :(
@Novarden makes sense
@Novarden :)
Looks like a solid film to take the kids to
Lol wtf
+Venkman83 A nice movie for family reunions filled with kids and for birthdays.
Looks like a solid film to show the kids at my Sunday class for my church
Anyone else wants to restate the original comment differently ?
Will teach them religions are poison.
*This movie looks AMAZING!* The trailer is SO intense, and if you look up the true town that this was based off it makes the trailer even creepier. I really want to see this, it looks extremely well directed, beautifully and moodily shot, and the acting looks excellent, particularly by that awful cult leader!
I'm not big Harry Potter fan, but Emma Watson is making me a fan because of her intelligent movie choices *after* Potter ended.
+oldmoviemusic where can i find the real photo of the town??
+nattly williams look up "colonia dignidad" or "villa baviera", its been investigated for weapons management for the dictatorship, torture of political prisoners and his leader was a known child abuser
Pedro Farias thank you
The first one is the most
not so intelligent to wear 4 inch heels when trying to pass as one of them,,or is it she wont make films looking short ?
Such an underrated film, watched it on Netflix twice and Watson gave one of the best performances of her career. Didn't see Little Women, but The Circle was just not as good a followup. Still waiting for her to do something as good as this again.
I'll see anything Emma's in.
+Kevin G. same
I'll see anything in Emma .
+olddogandpanthers nice try lol
Only Daniel no emma
Yeah she's like the female version of Leonardo DiCaprio, their movies were so good.
Emma Watson knows how to choose movie. If I see her name in a movie, I usually watch. Believe THAT.
Roman Reigns catchphrase great! Now I don't want to watch the movie.
Not always, The Circle and Regression were bad af, trust me.
I clicked for Emma and I stayed for Chile,my country 👏
Basic Indiana Jones story
all those who complain about the trailer, the choice of actors or sth else about this film... JUST GO WATCH IT!!! It is one of the most terrifying, emotional and moving films I have seen in a long time!
I did watch it, its pretty good. However my main problem is how badly they lie about everything.
If you know anything about history and you read the book Radium Girls all you are able to take away from it was, well the real part was that there were women painting with radium, the rest is lies, this movie is exactly the same thing.
Under Pinochet communists were indeed imprisoned, this is the true part, the lying part is everything else in the movie.
@@daniellassander that's not a lie at all, there are oficial documentaries on BBC and Deutsche Welle, the truth was even WORST.

i just watched this for the first time, holy it was so good but it’s scary to think this was based on a true story. i’m so sorry to those who suffered.
This is such a great film!! It had me on edge the entire time. It's so sad to see that places like Colonia Dignidad actually exist. I'd recommend everyone to watch it.
Such a hard movie to watch

@@appler8040 because its based on true events and bad things happened to the victims

Watched this the other day with very low hopes and I was blown out of the water. Extremely good movie. Especially considering this was a true story. Creepy stuff.
so was it true the girl tried to join them in 4 inch heels ?
For those who cares, Colonia dignidad was a place in the south of Chili that was used as a center of torture in the dictatorship of Pinochet, also it was a place leaded for the germans and their people where the leader, Paul Schefer did some experiments in the womens such as removed their uterus for that they cannot have childrens. The dictatorship knew all of this and did nothing at all, one of the reasons was because they could send there the political prisioners for them to torture and make their bodys dissapear -Colonia dignidad was a place unknown for many of the persons who lived in Chili by that time and also the german inmigrants were not allowed to leave the place- the second reason was the tecnology that the germans used to give to the dictatorship.

Chill, guys. Let him have his moment. Don't worry. It's not like we didn't need another reason for people to hate us. Oh wait. A lot of people already do because of people like Shawn Shackelford. Thanks for making Atheists look bad, Shawn Shackelford. Read a book, Shawn Shackelford. Try harder not to look or sound ignorant, Shawn Shackelford. Make a valid statement, Shawn Shackelford. There. I just saved you guys a ton of time. No need to respond to Shawn Shackelford, anymore.

Just watched it and it's amazing. I know everyone says that about films but I mean it was genuinely a fantastic movie. Heart rate hasn't been that high in a long time. Reminds me a lot of Argo, similar escape type plot but still completely it's own thing. Couldn't recommend it enough.
I loved it!
Daniel and Emma did so well, I was surprised me,a was in such a movie, though
+teddyXcakes even only in the names hoping she and Daniel (Radcliffe) would make another movie though.
+Christine Sumil IKR! I loved them together, they did good!
+teddyXcakes they have this undeniable chemistry that they should've continued even after the hp series. such a shame.
Pretty amusing that Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl are the ones named when the trailer is almost all about Michael Nyqvist's character. Damn but he plays creepy. Almost enough to make me watch *'John Wick'* again, despite Keanu.
honestly one of the best movies ive ever seen
Same , it's so sad though the true story . I just watched this movie
I cant believe it took me so long to watch this. It is brilliantly acted and keeps u on edge a lot.
The US government helped pinochet come to power, and even denfended his dictatorship in the international arena. The coup accorded on September 11, 1973. There are still people in Chile who have no idea about what happened to family members. Brazil, Agentina, and Bolivia have both had military dictatorships too. But don't worry, the US helped them come to power too. and don't forget salvador and honduras as well. Google School of the Americas. it's a military base in georgia where a lot of the officers in the dictatorships trained. in both chile and argentina, surviving prisoners have reported that there was a man with the tortures who spoke english, probably a CIA agent.
The School of the America's was located in Panama during it's time but has transformed (renamed itself due to international pressure), it is now located at Fort Benning, Georgia with the name Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation. They export death squads aimed at killing and overthrowing socialist governments, or any others that disagree with the economic elites of the country (and the US). Two of the graduates were part of the coup against Hugo Chavez back in 2002.
Communists deserve all the pain they can get
Ok, the Soviets supported Fidel Castro, Kim il Sung, and Mao Zedong.
and what are you, pretentious boi? the internet prophet?
SonOfNothingness My grandma had to leave Chile to come to Canada because of this dictatorship. My mom’s friend is also from Chile and her dad went to fight in Chile. They never found out what happened but about a couple months ago they found skeletal remains which they believed to be his. They held a memorial and properly buried him.
Why people doesn't appreciate good serious movies...It's like they always want to see the commercial types of movies and love them too!!
well she is running for an Oscar....!!!
The cinematography in this movie looks sooooo good
This movies was very good, start to finish. It gave me an overwhelming sense of anxiety for the characters, something no movie's been able to do in a long time
I saw this on Netflix today and I was very impressed. I wanna watch it again. And as a HP fan I'm glad to see Emma in another good movie :)
This film was amazing Emma pulled off the role so well
Literally one of the BEST films I've ever watched in my ENTIRE life.
The fact that Emma Watson and the guy speaking at 0:52 is in this movie, makes me smile. That guy is named Michael Nyqvist and is a swedish actor. As a fellow swede, myself, that makes me smile.
this movie scared me more then actual horror movies and on top of that its a true story very sad what those people went through
Emma looks a little like my sister.
Tap that while you still can
it she's 16 I'm 16.
Yes
Hey
Pharmit24 Lucky you
The movie stands against dictatorship in general, chilean and nazi in this case, and how people can use religion as an advantage and as an excuse to make terrible things. Relating religion directly with the problem is plain wrong, you would be missing the whole point.
Now I'll save you some research: The film talks about the Chilean dictatorship that happened between 1973 and 1989. It is set against the backdrop of the Chilean military coup and the real "Colonia Dignidad", a notorious cult in the South of Chile, led by German lay preacher Paul Schäfer (a fugitive of child molestation charges in West Germany). The main economic activity of the colony was agriculture, but it also contained a school, a free hospital, two airstrips, a restaurant, and even a power station. The colony was secretive, surrounded by barbed wirbe fences, searchlights, and a watchtower, and contained secret weapon caches. Recent investigations, including efforts by the Chilean government, uncovered a history of criminal activity in the enclave, including child sexual abuse. Evidence of the presence at the colony of the infamous Nazi concentration camp doctor Josef Mengele, known as the "Angel of Death" for his lethal experiments on human subjects during the Holocaust has even been presented.
Look at one Emma Watson movie trailer and suddenly recommended list filled with Emma Watson movie trailers
I checked it out yesternight and it's INCREDIBLE. The trailer is great, but does the movie absolutely no justice. Must see. For sure.
The residents of Colonia Dignidad had no tv(newswise), radio, clocks, watches etc. Survivors said that they were even never told what day it was (for them not to acknowledge sunday, which is church day, so they'd have to work all the time).
This movie was well edited and did an excellent job conveying the atrocities of cult behavior without over or under- doing it. Good movie.
I still watch this movie. Sad story but wonderful acting. Great Job Emma and Daniel !
I loved how they made Emma look very early 70s! With the tanned skin, straight hair, and very natural glowy makeup!
Add in the 100% polyester flight attendant's uniform!!! Gad... I could actually FEEL that sculpted uniform... (Why I prefer 100% cotton in the 21st C.!)😺💕🐾
Came across this on Netflix, watched this trailer and decided to go for it. I like movies like this. It kept me interested the ENTIRE time. My heart may have been pounding a little fast as well. Just so much going on and never know what to expect. The ending was a little odd, but still worth watching!
SASSY20 I was looking for a comment like this. Thanks for the heads up will check it out now, on Netflix:)
what did you think?
SASSY20 It was a great movie
my heart was pounding at the end when they arrive at the air port
ya mine 2. lol
I swear Emma Watson only stars in weird films nowadays
Better than to star in a boring film am I right? I feel like there's substance to this movie which some people might not understand
+CZcams Thumb no all of the films she's in don't interest me in the slightest
+Jack Calder then I'm surprised to find you here watching a trailer from a movie of someone who doesn't 'interest' you...
+CZcams Thumb no I said the films she's in don't interest me but she's hot so I click hoping that it would be something good
+Jack Calder That doesn't make any sense. You clicked because she's pretty?
I accidentally started to watch this movie bcos of Emma. And it turned out one of the best. Even I didn't know it Was based on true events, hats off to the director who made such an eyes opening movie.
Great movie, the fact that it's from a real event is amazing. Must watch.
great movie. awesome acting. this is why following orders blindly is dangerous; i salute the discretion of the pilot, fictional or otherwise
Esse filme e simplesmente INCRIVEL , e um dos filmes com a Emma Watson que mais gosto, sem palavras para esse filme.
she's such a great actress!!
Such a great film. Definitely my favorite Emma Watson film to date.
This is one of the most impressive movies I've ever watched. It made me feel really hopeless about human kind. The only reason I could finish watching it was Emma Watson. She is a real blessing.
Emma Watson is the reason I watched this movie. Its nice and thrill movie based on true events in Chile
This is my new fav movie !! its so deep and realistic and powerful, aslo Emma just played her roll perfectly!! ..
I recommend everyone watch it.
i grew up in a small town which is 30km next to "Colonia dignidad" now is known as "Villa Baviera", and nowadays works as a turistic place
I watched it today, its plot and scenario are so breathtaking, I didn't have time to be able to have lunch. Sounds weird, but it's true.
At first I wasn't exited about it, I was wrong. Recommended.
this movie was really good and so true to reality
I don't have enough words to appreciate this movie.
I can't believe this movie is so old and am just seeing it, it was worth watching highly recommend to anyone who is thinking about watching.

This movie is so shocking and sad. When i watched this movie i was shocked. The actors did a great job to tell this story..
A great movie but heartbreaking. There was a lot of crimes and injustice in my country Chile and nowadays we are fighting for our rights. Viva Chile ! we need to keep fighting
recommended !! It hooks you since the time, a lot of mystery, and you realize the evil of humility only because of the religious beliefs of a sect. Good movie and good performances
great movie
Buenísima actuación de Emma y Daniel. Muy buena película.
This movie was so worth the watch & based on actual events
Hermione and Zemo got it goin on!
Could their be an Oscar in Ms Watsons future?!?
If she makes more choices like this, and puts in more performances like this, I don’t see why not.
Just watched it…. I’m blown away by this work of art. This is a must watch
Such great acting by Emma
Lol, the real reasons because i’m here is For Daniel Brühl, non for Emma
Emma Watson.. Love her . ♥♥♥♥♥
Colonia is fantastic movie. really good!! ♥♥♥♥
This is based on the true events, about the colony in Chile (Colonia Dignidad) it was there since the 1950s until the man leading it Paul Schäfer was put in prison where he eventually died. It's also known as Villa Baviera. There is now (as of 2005) a new colony there, and the leader of the new colony insists that it's changed and no longer what it was before (allegedly people are allowed to go to university etc.)...
Well spoken actors, very appealing cinematography and with, what seems to be a substantial plot.
This looks like the kind of movie where you end up hating everyone save for the main character, Wynona Rider "Crucible" style.
The movie is amazing!
This film must have been recorded for quite a while now. Michael Nyqvist has been gone for more than two years. He'd been starting to star in a lot more movies outside of Sweden not too long before his death, too bad he couldn't go on. He would have been a great addition to the other great Swedish actors in the international film scene (like the Skarsgård's and Alicia Vikander). Rest in peace, Michael! Vila i frid!
"Let the truth set you free." It is also the Candor motto from the Divergent series.
