CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jim (James Dean) is fed up with his parents' constant fighting.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
As his parents bicker in a police station, teenager Jim Stark, played by James Dean, screws his face into a knot of frustrated rage and screams, "You're tearing me apart!" At that moment, Rebel Without a Cause changed the rules for the portrayal of teenagers on screen; Jim is neither a goofy-but-good-natured Andy Hardy type nor a Bowery Boys-style juvenile delinquent, but something resembling a real adolescent, awkwardly stumbling through young adulthood. We meet him lying in a gutter, drunkenly playing with a toy monkey before he's picked up by the police. We learn that his parents have moved more than once because Jim has gotten into trouble; between his Milquetoast father and bossy, unaffectionate mother, he has no one to turn to at home and no healthy role model. While waiting at the police station, he meets two other kids from the neighborhood: a troubled young man named Plato (Sal Mineo), who shot a litter of puppies in a fit of rage, and a pretty girl named Judy (Natalie Wood), who runs with a rough crowd to get the sense of belonging that she doesn't have at home. The three teenagers become an odd sort of family, until an unpleasant revelation sends Plato on a rampage.

Kind of troubling that the clip from the Room has five times as many hits as a rebel without a cause...
Lmao
Ironically Tommy probably meant that scene as a sort of tribute. He idolizes the “big actors” like Brando and Dean

"Room" jokes aside, this is a damn good representation of an anguished teenager: smart enough to know how frustrating the world can be, but still too young to deal with it.
Finally, one person who analyze this scene than making Room joke.
That's true. James Dean looked older though!
It's hard to deal with the world regardless of your age I guess.
Sorry but this movie doesn't hold up at all. Even without the Room if this movie was made today it would get laughed out of the theater.
What does that Brie Larson movie have to do with this? 😛
"You say one thing and he says another and then everybody changes back again."
Just defined what many kids feel about their parents.

I've been in many family situations, where I just wanted to say that line
I wasn’t surprised by this comment section
Everyone thinks they’re so original and hilarious for quoting The Room.
Næp Sæck Me neither.
disappointed, but not surprised
@@selina9474 What were you hoping for? People praising the acting in this scene without making any Room references?
I was hoping to see more Spongebob references
Oh hai, James Dean!
Lmao
James Franco seems to like playing actors who are famous for saying "you're tearing me apart"
In the case of 127 hours he litearlly tore himself apart
Adam Riggs lol
Too bad Doc Ock didn't do it to Harry Osborn in _Spider-Man 2._
So does Tommy Wiseau

Yes, Tommy with sunglasses is the master of disguise.
Okay this scene is perfection in my opinion, it really shows how damn annoying and insufferable parents who can’t stand each other really can be and James Dean reacts in a pretty realistic way
200th like
jamesdeane305
Still Tommy Wiseau’s “You’re tearing me apart Lisa!” was more realistic! I know that this is Tommy Wiseau’s favourite scene from his favourite movie that’s why he had to recreate it for his movie The Room and I know James Dean is looking down on Tommy from heaven saying “You’ve done me proud Tommy”
Hahaha! What a story Brooke!
James Franco said this sentence when he was playing James Dean, he said this sentence again playing Tommy Wiseua in The Disaster Artist. Tommy Wiseau said this sentence in The Room, because he loves this part of the movie and adores James Dean.
oh hi Kathi Ma
+Kathi Ma I never knew James Franco played James Dean, but Dean has always resembled Franco imo.

I just love it aswell. So realistic
It's kinda cute lol
Why? What's there to "die over?
I kept replaying that part😂🤣
LOL!!!
Im so Happy to have James say this line, and I love Tommy so much.
Let's go eat huh!
James Dean was an amazing actor. Sad he left us too early
And thus, Tommy Wiesau career was born.
Fun Fact: Tommy Wiseau was born one year after this movie came out. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Nothing funny about that. It's sad and tragic. Tommy Wiseau was born.
Actually Einstein, his birth date was October 3 1955. 3 days after James Dean's death.
Stickey Beez maybe He is James Dean reincarnated?

Tommy Wiseau Yes sir you did, because you understand life, and you did not hit her, you did naat
Hi doaggy
98% of the comments are about The Room. Lol
_Yes, but in a good way_
That's because Tommy Wiseau paid homage to James Dean in a scene where Johnny says to Lisa that he never hit her.
As they should be. The Room isn't anywhere near as bad of a movie as Rebel Without a Cause
no, 2% are about The Room. 98% is about James Franco
Donovan Cooper watch it.
That moment when you realize James Franco has successfully portrayed both James Dean and Tommy Wiseau; both of whom use this line. He seems to be rather adept at playing other actors.
He won the Golden Globe for playing Dean, and word is he is the favorite to win the GG next month for playing Wiseau.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 he's won a golden globe for both now LMAO
What if I told you that James Franco IS James Dean and Tommy Wiseau behind the scenes and that Wiseau and Dean are just two masks he wears?

haha "the room" - so trashy xD
I did not hit her! I did not!

sahar, search on youtube for a movie called " the room" staring tommy wiseau
Back in the eighties I and a friend watched this film at "The Playhouse" in Pittsburgh, PA. The audience laughed at scenes but became very quiet when Dean was on. Dean is a legend for all generations.
Why is he so hysterical?!?
Do you understand life? Do you?
This summerizes your feelings when you can't properly explain them to those you have known your whole life.
Oh hi mark

Oh, hi Johnny, I didn't know it was you
I didn't hit her..I did naaaht
Thank you Tommy and Greg.
In all seriousness, though, I definitely understand. Poor kid is so frustrated. With so many mixed signals in life, of course he’s going a bit nuts. Hope James is resting peacefully. What a loss of a stellar actor.
That dad is pretty damn chill for a 50's father.
Well, that could be, but he was stil under his wifes slipper, so humble and meek was the way to go.
He’s Thurston Howell the third and Mr. Magoo
Damn!! I forgot how attractive James Dean was. Shit!
Also (allegedly) swung both ways.
TheLANMAC seems like William swings too
RetroGuy76 whatttttttttt henny
he reminds me of James Franco
The Hollywood scumbags raped and molested and abused his male co-star I bet. (Sorry I'm at war with everything in and about this movie with James Dean and his friends and me rebels against that whole world of evil.) But still I can just about guarantee its true using my intuition. Check out Sal Mineo's life yourself and look at him hard and see if you see too. Five foot 6 ethnic turning tricks to stay with acting and out of reform school. Do you see that too? God I love this movie. But no problem these guys were bad-ass and totally in love with life and roll like a true player. (There's gay nudes of Sal if you look enough.)

Zach Obad-Mathis Yes James Dean copied Tommy but it’s ok I thought he did a decent job.

hahaha what a story, zach
Impulsegt1 These comments beat me so bad they sent me to a hospital on Geuraro Street
This was pure emotion, with nothing held back. *That* was talent. *That* was an actor. *That* was James Dean.
*Nobody will ever forget him.*
Such a talented actor.
It's interesting how back in its day Dean was criticized for "chewing up the set" with his acting in this, that he's totally overdoing it, but that spoke to the sensibilities of film audiences back then who were more used to drier but clear deliveries that had more of a "theatrical" tone. Dean was practicing acting techniques closer to method acting, really trying to embody his role, and today we appreciate that effort he made. It's over the top when compared to the other actors, but it was the right call on Dean's part.
Dean captured the teen angst of the Fifties better than anyone! The teenage Rage at the time which they called juvenile delinquency back then. They were afraid of their own children because they couldn’t control them anymore and the younger generation was questioning their values and beliefs at the time. Sound familiar?
This story repeats every generation it appears.
Everybody deserves to use that line at least once, but no more than twice in their lifetime, and spaced out by at least 20 years.
James Dean stop stealing line you just a chicken cheep cheep cheep cheep

"You are tearing me apart Lisa!"

I love all the THE ROOM comments
Why is James Dean so hysterical?
He did not understand life
@@psimbyosis8162 no one does, it’s only those who admit they don’t and those that pretend they do
@@Azoria4 good reference and thought. i agree with this phrase. the line about "understanding life" is a very bad line from 2003 The Room movie directed by Tommy Wiseau, one of the worst directors known by cinema industry. nothing really serious. the scene is epic in many ways, bad acting at the best.
He thinks he’s a good actor
Because he did not her, it's not true, it's bullshit, he did not her, he did naaat. Oh, hi Jake.
"I fed up with this werld"
Can't believe this guy became a president in Monument Mythos
I love how Tommy Wiseau makes zero sense using this line in The Room.
Here the "You're tearing me apart" line makes sense since it is Jim's mom and dad who are tearing him apart by "saying different things". But in The Room Tommy says the line just to Liza - who is she tearing Tommy apart with? xD
Not that I try to find logic in Wiseau. It is just hilarious how he uses the line solely to show off his acting skills (according to The Disaster Artist Tommy is a huge fan of James Dean).
akgoal except it does make sense. Johnny was arguing with Lisa. Hence the infamous line which Tommy unleashed.
she was "tearing" tommy wiseau apart by not talking to him, and lying saying he hit her, and he really loved lisa... it did make sense in the room too!
+akgoal Well, unfortunately, as bad as it was said, it technically was necessary.
Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.
akgoal "How is she tearing Tommy apart with?" Yes, you may judge the the pure, artistic genius that is an exhilarating, pulchritudinous example of the motion picture "The Room". Yes, sir, you have the cognitive capability in order to judge such a great movie. Stompin' round here with your criticism and you infinitesimally minute existence. Now make like a tree and absquatulate.
It's like every clip with James Dean in it is the best audition for Anakin Skywalker ever.
A young man under the shadow of his parents. Everybody was once a rebel to their parents at a young age.
It's been 67 years but his impaction was still unforgettable thing.
Ahaha! What a story, Mark.
Jacqueline McCafferty you can say that again
I know James Dean is looking down on Tommy Wiseau from heaven saying “You’ve done me justice and I’m proud of you!”
So the famous line "You're tearing me apart" didn't came from Tommy Wiseau in movie "The Room" he got it from this movie and I just now realized this after turning 21
James Dean for President!
James Dean could perfectly be alive today. He would've been one year younger than Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman.
Dean lived life stupidly and dangerously.
