The first time Goku used the kaioken against Nappa, I was eating and looked away from the screen for about 2 seconds and couldn't understand what happened as he held the broken Nappa in his hand

I loved how Goku didn't just use kaioken to throw punches but to move faster and dodge, it makes it really seem like a short burst of all his physical capabilities
it was a very high risk technique to use hence when SSj became available to him he stopped using it and it was only when he learned how to ssb when he decided to use it again because blue is 90% about ki control allowing goku to use KK in that form however unstable it is (it is still not as unstable as using it in any other SSJ form which is confirmed to be more a wild ki powerup hence not being compatible with a technique as physically demanding as KK)

@@garadak7. super saiyan requires and causes emotional distress, (mainly anger). Even if Goku has achieved a mastery over SSJ he probably never wants to take that risk. SSJ lets your energy flow free and wild

King Kai didn’t teach it to any of the Z warriors when they trained with him either
I also liked the kaio ken more than super saiyan. Super saiyan was just a straight upgrade with no downside that eventually everyone unlocked, and led to all the non-saiyan characters being sidelined. Kaio ken was a tradeoff, which I thought was more interesting; a massive power and speed boost, but also a huge tax on your body. It's part of what made Goku's first fight with Vegeta so cool; he was only able to surpass him by nearly ripping his body apart from the strain. It was a technique you had to learn and master, and was always a gamble.
I wish the other characters that visited King Kao had learned it. XD

But super saiya is just for saiyajin. The power is gifted only for saiyajin who deserves it.

4:58 is one of the moments that stuck with me throughout DBZ. Just a simple yet cool animation.
I love the sound of the kaioken. The start-up sounds like an jet engine and once he starts fighting and flying you can hear and intense hum, its immensely powerful but unstable and the pitch changes rapidly. Man, kaioken is so cool
2:00 is the best version of the start-up
14:10 is the best sound of a static kaioken (Goku isn’t fighting or moving intensely, just standing still)
And the 4:13 fight has the best use of the humming sound also the best animation with kaioken.

The sound of him flying is the most iconic part for me besides the red aura
I’ve never been able to pinpoint why the kaioken felt so powerful, so thanks for that. But also 4:35 = Jesus, this scene is what cemented the Kaioken as a top 3 transformation for me. Goku’s voice actor is taking it to the freaking max, you can literally feel the strain but also immense power through his voice alone!
I miss these days. Stronger opponents could fly faster, the new abilities were exiting, characters were more serious.

@@leultrainstinct406 impressive? what are you on about? judging by your username, guess you're talking about UI, maybe even god of destruction powers? still, Super is just a buffed up version of the same characters and almost nothing NEW and exciting was done. This saga had better storytelling than most of super lol, I'd even argue the techniques shown here are way more creative, like, most things Super did were already done in Z and basically ended as a cheap knockoff. The Ginyu force is way more entertaining than the whole cast from TOP lol, it's just sad
11:50 I honestly think this clip exemplifies the core of what made me like Kaioken the most and cement it as my favorite Dragonball transformation. No doubt Goku looks (and sounds) mad cool fighting with it and just the screeching hum and non-stop barrage is less cut-out by teleportation and invisible attacks and more trackable. And yet the animation movement itself is not slowed down at all allowing us to simply and plainly perceive it as it is: Goku moving mad fast at off-angles to, not only attack the opponent, but to dodge, change directions, or switch up his decisions incredibly rapidly, the latter being shown beautifully in this whole clip against Vegeta at 4:47 as well. (I noticed quite the same thing, though to a noticeably lesser extent, when thinking back on the first time we saw gear second Luffy, but the concept is basically the same so I figured I'd mention it.)
But that's when I realized it: Goku is moving like Sonic does. He's fighting like I'd expect and want Sonic to if he were in that same position. The jagged, jerky nature more suited to Sonic's incredible acceleration patterns, and abnormal in terms of Dragonball's usual use of aura-enhanced flight. And with Sonic being my favorite videogame character, the parallels were so obvious in hindsight and it was just awesome to realize. Maybe Sonic's more serious stories would get animated and let us see fight scenes like old school Kaioken exchanges. I can only hope.
What makes me cringe about the cell saga is how Goku didn't use kaioken x1-4 with his grade 4 ssj, and along with the fact kaioken was never used again, its the same thing in super where god another red form is also not used anymore, i always wanted goku in super to master god and combine it with higher levels of kaioken but it's never gonna happen, super kaioken in the filler was peak, and also gokus kaioken usage used to be creative, gokus fighting and techniques died down almost completely after namek saga ended now all he does is Kamehameha or instant transmission, namek saga was peak goku

The Kaioken is definitely one of Goku's coolest techniques and it was so nice to see they used it again. One of my personal fav things he ever learnt and used.

I really dislike blue. Not only it came out of nowhere and ruined a potential good movie, but it's transformation is boring and dull.
Red is cool too. But again, no even close to how DBZ's transfomations were revealed.

The original kaio-ken sound is SOO satisfying, i would legit watch a 10 hour video that randomly has the kaioken sound play
I honestly miss the risk/reward factor of the Kaio-Ken. As soon as Super Saiyan transformations came into play, it became irrelevant because SSJ had bigger numbers and basically no downsides beyond initially making you blood-lusted. It kinda cheapened how much of a gamble some of Goku's fights could be, though I love those forms for all of the iconic moments associated with them.
Personally,I don't see why Goku couldn't use Kaioken on top the Super Saiyan forms.
Though this has happened twice,both instances weren't canon.

Neither the anime nor the manga are directly written by Toriyama,making neither of them purely canon on their own.
The manga is done by Toyotaro and the anime from the animation studio,both of them simply take notes from Toriyama.

Kaioken literally means “God fist” and cloaks Goku is red energy,which is canon to be the color of God ki. When he goes Super Saipan God he becomes completely red and gains a massive power boost. I think that the Kaioken is a nerfed version of God ki. Basically it’s as much as king Kai himself would be able to accomplish compared to Beerus who is way above him in the hierarchy

There's just something that the Kaio-Ken technique has that no Super Saiyan form ever will, and that's why I prefer it over any of Goku's transformations. I'll never get tired of watching a Kaio-Ken scene.

Because it's only shown when he puts in max effort, then he powers way down after. Giving it this sense that its goku at his absolute peak, because it's so short lived.
Every other transformation, there are too many scenes of him standing and talking. While supposedly being "fully powered up"

Honestly, having never seen the Kaioken canonically since NAMEK, seeing its return in Dragon Ball Super against Hit was very fun. Combining the Super Saiyan Blue form which he gained thanks to his training with Whis, and the Kaioken which he learned from King Kai, combining the transformations he gained thanks to two godly mentors and combining them into one spectacular powerup.
What are we counting as canon? The best kaio-ken in the series was just before buu saga in the pikkon fight but i guess since it was filler episodes anime only and not in the manga we arent counting it?

Fun fact: The reason Goku only ever used the kaioken with super saiyan(and very briefly) and not with super saiyan 2 or 3 is because of the violent and sporadic nature of the user's energy in such forms. Combining that with the kaioken can be deadly
Also he can use it with blue for the longest time because of the healing properties of the form :)

Along with this, we see in Xenoverse that SS God Goku is capable of using the spirit bomb, suggesting that he could use the Kaioken as normal
Also kaioken requires ki control,and the god forms are literally all about controlling God ki within a form
So they are basically built to be combined

It shows how although he may not be like an actual dad and spends most of his time away from his family to have Bromance with Vegeta, he still has a pure heart, and he loves his kids.
