At Spain it can be done.
I live at the Central range that extends almost 1000 km from the mediterranean to the Atlantic at Portugal. Its around 2500 to 2600m high. I moved here looking for nature and silence. Winter is cold, really cold, but beautyful. The peaky landscape is completly covered with woods which end extends far beyond the horizont, in a variety and density that amazes the spirit. I live alone with my dog kukutxumusu, a siberian husky that enjoys the cold winter and soft summers even more than me.
This is western europe, lonely, silent, wild, but Europe. Hence I can work online and only from time to time have to move down to the town for solving anything or buying something that can't be found locally.
We can, and we live in harmony with our environment. Thats ony a matter of making the right decission at the right time, run out if the town and find a place for living the live you want.
