  • Most people may not associate Southern Arizona with black history, but a group of people are working to change that. From the first non-native to ever come to the southwest, to the role Buffalo Soldiers played in settling the state, Arizona has been influenced and shaped by people of African descent for nearly 500 years.

Esteban preceded the spaniards? Who knew!?! Other U.S. forts with B.S.'s in Ariz. ... Ft. Thomas, Camp Naco. Any others? Look up Wham robbery. Isaiah Mayes, a Buffalo Soldier was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.

Big Super Living in Arizona (youtube) happen to be the artery I've been tuning into about Arizona living. Because of the increasing interest from his show I then come across this page/info? Personally I'm 47 years old and do not know much about the Buffalo Soldiers, until watching THIS VIDEO. @ 5:34 "Esteban" is a very interesting note**** .....I just bought a book ("by: Dennis Herrick") on this man after researching the alleged 1619 consensus of the 1st African on U.S. continent, arriving in Virginia . I just got the book in the mail about 2 hrs ago. Can't wait to read more about it. Next time I go to Arizona, I'm going to make it a priority to participate in the Arizona Heritage Tour. Arizona Public Media.....thx
