It is easy to do, don't be intimidated, this is a very handy tool that almost never gets used simply because people do not know how to use them...I hope the video helps
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! i typically use a butterfly opener on my wine bottles but I couldn't find one, and while I have a swiss army knife I didn't really know how to use it. this tutorial just rescued my dinner plans. thank you thank you!
You actually opened it the difficult way. Getting it started is far easier if you turn it down nearly ALL the way so that the knife is practically touching the lip of the bottle, then, instead of pulling, just angle the knife down as if you were trying to close the corkscrew attachment back into the knife. This torque helps you get the cork started, which is the most difficult part, then you can pull it as usual.
I thought I did it wrong because I couldn't pull it up. But after watching this video I realized I did attempt the right way and it was just me being a weak piece of shit lol
I've always struggled to use the corkscrew on the swiss army knife to open the bottle. I thought I was just too weak or something, which was a blow to my ego :P But the method of just pulling it a little bit at time worked perfectly! Thanks for the video!
Thank you very much. I'm one of those that didn't know how to do it. I did not know about using the other hand for leverage. I have been struggling and struggling and destroying corks. This works great!
Thank you so much for this. You're right, people do look this sort of thing up and I am one of those people. When I heard the bottle pop I was extremely happy and grateful... thank you cutlerylover and... CHEERS!!
So, Jeff, there is an item out there that I have in my kitchen for use with a bottle of wine if it is only partially drunk and you want to save it for another day. It is a "vacuum wine stopper" and it is a very simple item but effectively stores the wine as if the cork had never been removed. You put the proprietary rubber cork on the bottle (the kits usually come with two but you can get more) and then you take the specially designed pump and pump it about 10 times. It takes all the air out of the bottle, which is the one thing that makes the wine deteriorate. When you come back later to remove the stopper, you hear that satisfying "swoosh" that tells you that you just broke the vacuum. Bottoms up!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! You're a real lifesaver. I never used a corkscrew before, and the only thing I have on hand is the one my army knife. Your video saved my New Year's Eve 💙
The leatherman juice has a nice corkscrew tool. Espesialy when you use the notch on top of the bottle opener as leverage. The leatherman juice has been the hero at many parties lol.
Hey Jeff, Thanks for this vid. I've owned SAK's for close to 40 years and I don't think I ever used the corkscrew to open a wine bottle. LOL Peace, Duane
Thx for this. I'm travelling with my brother to Ireland soon and he may want to open wine in the room. I'm bringing along my Victorinox Camper for that chore (and maybe slicing up some cheese, tomato, salami for snack).
I shortened my corkscrew and just twisted it to the base and kept twisting till the cork started twisting too, and that make it super easy to pull out. As once said: "Twist and PULL"
When I open a bottle with an SAK, I will thread the corkscrew in as deep as it will go and then use the hinge for leverage against the mouth of the bottle. You can practically do it one handed that way. I have never owned a corkscrew that wasn't on an SAK. Anyway, I may have to go buy a couple of bottles tonight just to post a video response ;)
omg, I did it!! it was the "put your lower hand up close to the top hand" that did it for me. This is an old video, but seriously, thank you lol I didn't want to ask for help.
im interested in alternative uses for the corkscrew as i rarely have an opportunity to open a bottle of wine. i heard they can be quite adept at loosening knots.
Just to add to your pocketknife bit... for those without bottle stoppers(?), they can still use the cork by cutting a cross-cut in the inside end (opposite of the screwed end) with a v-shape for each cut removing the center of each v-shape cut. About 1/2 inch deep. It’ll be an easy push in and pull out cork. Hope this makes sense.
Screw the corkscrew all the way in. Then lift one end of the knife. The other end is against the lip of the bottle. This easily breaks the initial seal of the seated cork. Then unscrew it a small amount and follow the instructions in the video. Decent video and well narrated I have to say.
The one time I used my corkscrew on my Victorinox Huntsman it felt like I was going to break the knife. I'm glad I saw this video because, this might sound stupid, I never thought to use my other hand to apply pressure to my Other hand to slowly work the cork out like that. Thanks for the clarification. I had just put the screw in and used my one hand and pulled really hard until it popped out, it was really hard and the knife felt like it was going to break. Lol.
I've saved my friend's adult birthday party with my sak climber's corkscrew. She had wine, sure, but forgot the corkscrew. That was fun, being the sak user there.
You can put the cork back in no problem. I do it all the time. Just obviously don't push it far in. I usually push it in 1/3 of the way, maybe even 1/4. I push it in so far that I can open it with my hand. Haven't had problems with residue or getting stuck yet.
I tried using my Victorinox Cyber Tool 34 on a wine cork before and it felt like the $100 knife was going to break in my hands. With actual cork, it can be lodged in the bottle really snug and stubborn.
Jeff, your new video should be on how to open a door using the handle or how to tie shoelaces. ;) With the door I never know if I have to push or pull, push down or while turning or something else ... Need a video ASAP please I cant get out of my room. ;)
i couldn't manage to open it with the corkscrew so i stuck a knife in the cork and twisted it to loosen it. That made it much easier to take it out with the screw.
I steady the bottle between my thighs, standing, and pull it out in one motion. I love the "pop" it makes. So much more satisfying than other types of openers. Also, the synthetic corks (in my experience) don't have that problem of bits flaking off so you can reuse them unless they are really tight (sometimes if you put them in upside down it's better). If the bottle has an actual real cork in it, be extra careful not to wind the corkscrew all the way through, and if reusing it, be gentle. Cork crumbs in wine= yuck.
some bottles are almost impossible to open this way because the cork fuses to the bottle. last bottle I tried to open with a corkscrew this way ended up stripping the cork - after I pulled with all my might, the cork screw came out without the cork attached. I ended up having to use a knife.
CUTLERYLOVERJEFF! YOU ARE MY INSPIRATION and i collect pocketknives and watch your video, the first one i ever watched was about a gloryhole! and ive watched you ever since! you make my days and make me smile! please do continue on with everything you do and more! ive been going through a hard time lately, and im in a very dark place the death of close relatives. A shoutout from you would be the best thing to ever happen to me! love you jeff!!
I believe the easiest way is simply drive the corkscrew completely down until the cork turns in the bottle, then it is easy to pull out. I tried this with a bottle of wine that had a cork so tight that I could not budge it any other way.
If you need to use a small knife and some pliers. To pry it out by punching the knife into the cork in the glass then rotating the knife out along with the cork then if that does not work use the pliers to pry it out.
My swiss army knife from my grand father is over used and will not open a fake cork bottle but will open real ones so this tutorial is varied upon person
You can turn the cork upside down and put it back in the wine bottle and it'll fit perfectly. As long as you don't leave it in there for months, the cork won't dry out and break/crumble.
Ok you had it right on the knife before the one in the bottle. The way you did it will bend the corkscrew out of the knife if you hold it the other way it bends the corkscrew towards the knife, its much stronger that way..
I always just push down the bottle while pulling up the corkscrew. It's worked 100% of the time and I haven't found an easier way to open a wine bottle with a SAK. Also, if lay the bottle on a chair instead of a table, you'll have more leverage. Anyone can do it.
there's an even easier way. Standing straight up, hold the bottle between your feet snuggly and then pull up on the knife. Works quickly and easily every time.
Wait don't just pull on it first. Put the knuckle on your left hand on one end of the sak, and push the other side of the blade up, so that you have a leverage advantage, until you're about halfway there.
+shurdi3 Yeah, that's much easier. I was looking this up about 5 min. into trying to get a real cork out of a wine bottle. If I pulled on it, it didn't move at all. I had to put leverage on it. Once I got it out about a quarter inch, I cut off the top of the cork and repeat. That was the only way. Real cork is resiliant.
I collect SAK and I love them but a decent quality waiter friends tool with a foil cutting blade is a hundred times better for opening any kind of bottle.
After opening a couple hundred wine bottles with a swiss army knife, the easiest way is to insert the opener to the notch on the screw, then whack it down to break the seal on the glass. then it will come out easily every time.
We’re stuck in a barn in Switzerland, struggling to open wine bottles and this just saved our lives. Thank you ❤️
How do you get stuck in a barn lmao
Yeah, Thts funny.,

This. This is how a waiter at a restaurant would do it with their corkscrew. Removes the need to he-man it out.
Thank you!!! Good thing I read your comment!
damaband41 you saved my life
THANK YOU! Whew. This helped me.
success!!!
I thought I did it wrong because I couldn't pull it up. But after watching this video I realized I did attempt the right way and it was just me being a weak piece of shit lol
Exactly what I was thinking lmfao
Lmao same here!
Facts
Same

Thank you very much. I'm one of those that didn't know how to do it. I did not know about using the other hand for leverage. I have been struggling and struggling and destroying corks. This works great!
Thank you very much for making this video. Our first corked wine and the only thing we have is a Swiss army knife. You're awesome!
I've learned something today I didn't even know I needed to learn. Perhaps it will come in handy in the future! Thanks! :)
Thank you so much for this. You're right, people do look this sort of thing up and I am one of those people. When I heard the bottle pop I was extremely happy and grateful... thank you cutlerylover and... CHEERS!!
So the corkscrew isn't for cleaning your nails?
SAsgarters so relatable
Wtf
That's what the knife is for.
No, that’s what you buy a toe-knife for
No!! They're good for cleaning dust from your eyes....

I found it very satisfying to watch even up til the end. The wine pouring was sweet.
Thanks so much for posting this. I could not do it before seeing your hints. Totally works. Yeah I didn't have to go out and buy one.

You saved my life. I was trying to pull it out with one hand and did not worked, when I helped myslef with the other hand it went out easy, thanks :D
your mother is very supportive. plz tell her how much you love her.

I am very disappointed in you. I went to your channel and there is no video of you opening a bottle with one hand.

Really helpful. Tonight I'm trying a Natural Sweet.
It works. Thanks for the tip
You clutch my g keep doing your thang
It worked! Thank you
oh stop it and just finish it!
Very interesting video. Thanks a lot! Greets from Switzerland

Yes
Thank you!!!! We're camping and it's raining...just wanted some wine 😅
im interested in alternative uses for the corkscrew as i rarely have an opportunity to open a bottle of wine. i heard they can be quite adept at loosening knots.
Very well done video, your an old pro!
YOURE THE BEST THANK YOU !!!!
Great tip!!! Many thanks.
It worked. Didn’t think I had the strength for it... but golly it works!

Got my first bottle of wine and only corkscrew is on a Swiss army knife. Thank you!
sweet! nice video man!!!!
Actually, now thinking about it, I did try it like you show in this video but it wasn't working so I just yanked the cork out.
Place the bottle on the ground and pull the corkscrew. Always worked for me without any problems.
I was about to comment it didn't work for me but I got a sturdier knife and off it went! Thanks!
I've saved my friend's adult birthday party with my sak climber's corkscrew. She had wine, sure, but forgot the corkscrew.
That was fun, being the sak user there.
You made our night love you
Uh oh I smell wine reviews in the near future :)
best guy ever.
Dang I thought this would be an actual hidden feature, like the right way to use a waiters cork screw.
You can put the cork back in no problem. I do it all the time. Just obviously don't push it far in. I usually push it in 1/3 of the way, maybe even 1/4. I push it in so far that I can open it with my hand. Haven't had problems with residue or getting stuck yet.

All my bottles have screw tops and say Mad Dog 20/20 on the bottle !
What do you have hanging off the keychain of each knife?
thank you kind sir

Can you do a video on how to put on socks?
Hey Cutlerylover, what is the blade steel on the Evo?
CUTLERYLOVERJEFF!

I believe the easiest way is simply drive the corkscrew completely down until the cork turns in the bottle, then it is easy to pull out. I tried this with a bottle of wine that had a cork so tight that I could not budge it any other way.
I was just seeing if their was any advice on shredding the cork to hell like I ended up doing on my first attempt.
Finds a video about using a corkscrew to open a foam lid. Sighs. Drinks. Sighs.
cool great video
My pullout game is weak. Great vid
I use the corkscrew on Swiss army knives as rarely as possible. I have never gotten more than 20 uses before they snap at the base.
Yes! We got it
Our wine bottles in Australia all have screw lids
I always put my knife on the bottle instead ogf my hand. I see now that it gets dinged up by the glass.
wooooooooow im amazed
Nothing beats a swiss
cutlerylover A link for the Wenger?
jeff has started making vids about litterally anything
corkscrews work great to get knots untied!
If you need to use a small knife and some pliers. To pry it out by punching the knife into the cork in the glass then rotating the knife out along with the cork then if that does not work use the pliers to pry it out.
My swiss army knife from my grand father is over used and will not open a fake cork bottle but will open real ones so this tutorial is varied upon person
i used to just yank it out until recently like a noob :D
here can I get that dog bottle cap link plz
You can turn the cork upside down and put it back in the wine bottle and it'll fit perfectly. As long as you don't leave it in there for months, the cork won't dry out and break/crumble.

Classy! Like a mother frackin BOSS!
there's an even easier way. Standing straight up, hold the bottle between your feet snuggly and then pull up on the knife. Works quickly and easily every time.
How to use corkscrew tutorial - world is going to colapse... What will be next? How to use toilet paper after poo?
Wait don't just pull on it first. Put the knuckle on your left hand on one end of the sak, and push the other side of the blade up, so that you have a leverage advantage, until you're about halfway there.

Only problem, every time I need a corkscrew, I can't find my SAK. When I don't need it, its in my pocket.
I collect SAK and I love them but a decent quality waiter friends tool with a foil cutting blade is a hundred times better for opening any kind of bottle.
A lot of time to get it halfway wrong. You use the knife "body" for leverage leverage to start the process.
just put the cork in a little bit into the bottleneck so that you can easily pull it out with your hands
awesome bulldog
I put the bottle on da ground firmly held between both my rubber soles! Even more leverage!
Save the cork to store fishhooks and lures neatly.
After opening a couple hundred wine bottles with a swiss army knife, the easiest way is to insert the opener to the notch on the screw, then whack it down to break the seal on the glass. then it will come out easily every time.
Mmm... Cork from Ardbeg whisky, nice! :)
cool
What do people mean by EDC when it comes to Swiss Army Knifes?
EveryDayCarry can be applied on multiple things
ur just way stronger than me
Cheers
I find it easier to just twist the corkscrew all the way down and keep twisting as much as you can until it just twists out.
