      Banks don't give any interest whatsoever anymore, retirement funds have the biggest difficulties providing people with a proper pension, housing that's becoming more and more unaffordable, job security is more and more becoming a utopia, and let's not even get started on the government supposedly being there for your best interest.
      Everything that we took for granted until 20 years ago is crumbling from underneath our feet, meaning we need to be more savvy to make our money work for us, so people are looking for either investment opportunities, and/or ways to secure their wealth, especially with the soaring inflation we can very likely expect the next couple of years.
      So I'm with Konrad on this one: silver and gold have everything in them to only become even more popular, making it improbable to be scoring some really cheap precious metals on the short to mid long term.

      @@jdjphotographynl Great response. I will also add one more thing : there are more and more younger collectors all over the world coming to coins as a safe haven. The whole Eastern Europe finally is in the position to invest lots of cash into bullion and numismatics and it is a very different place than 30 years ago when Iron Curtain fell. Mind You, there is also a graded banknotes market which is still underdeveloped in many countries. Collecting will not collapse in the next many years.

    Even if the Royal Mint is cashing out on the success of the Queen's Beasts series by releasing that completer coin, so what? In the end, nobody is holding a gun against your head that you must buy it, so if you don't want to buy it for whatever reason, then don't. 🤷‍♂️ The more there is left to those that do want it.

    The thing that annoys me is the discount on premium if you buy in bulk, why not just one price, if one person buys 100+ they get a huge discount on the premium, but if 100 people buy one each all of a sudden it costs them more to produce.

    I think I’ll just wait a few more years and then pick up some of the proofs I liked the look of at just above bullion price. This usually seems to happen a few years down the road and dealers will usually only offer you scrap value on most modern proofs except for the odd one like the great engravers, the 89 proof sovereigns or the like (although you could pick up the 89 sov and half sov for less than royal mint charge for any proof sovereign a number of years back).
    I’ve even picked up some of the queen’s beasts proofs for less than the mint price on the second hand market.
    Of course having collected for over 40 years I’ve never flipped a coin or had one slabbed as I don’t need a third party trying to grade a coin to an impossible accuracy and like as little as possible between me and the coin.

    Beautiful coins but I have little interest in owning one. Mostly because I can’t understand why they gain value. They are made and marketed as collectors coins so doesn’t that insure they will never be rare? It’s seems like they are the Beenie babies of the coin world. Am I wrong?

    I purchased some silver at the start of the pandemic when the GSR was around 115 more so to preserve my wealth against deflation / devaluation . I opted for silver over gold due to affordability, with intention of any gains made to be transfered Into gold at a later stage. That said I purchased some Robin Hood coins at about £1.50 over a standard 2021 silver sov. For me I intend to hold long term, so the value to me will be realised over time as currencies fall / economic shinangians. For me, 5000 years of proof is more than enough over other currency currently. Depends what your in the game for, long term I don't see any form of loss unless a restriction type event occurs.

      @@numismaticmaster8612 It absolutely cannot. Which is what I'm honestly hoping for. When people finally get tired of all the scalping and releases, maybe prices will drop and I can finally pick up the Queen's Beast series in Gold but without the insane premiums. Kinda like what happened to Pre 33 Gold.

  • @rodpanhard
    @rodpanhard Před 3 lety

    Exact same scenario with cupro nickel 50ps, Royal Mint churning out series of these like there is no tomorrow and there is probably much more mark up for them selling a 50p at a tenner. I like my silver stacking endevours as a means of providing insurance plus it's money that is difficult to spend but not too diffucult so stacking silver does not feel like cash where it would be burning a hole in my pocket and I have to get rid of it as soon as possible. Having said this I sometimes can't shake the feeling I am being played by the mints who charge a premium to form the silver into a coin shape and slap an image of an animal or whatever on it as often that premium feels exorbitant and this is especially true of the numismatic silver.

    The mint are involved in mass produced artificial scarcity imo. These low mintage issues are prone to market manipulation as well and this may be very active. There is no regulation in the market. The mint is oblivious and playing into it by disappointing even their mint Marque customers. The collapse of these premiums will be spectacular imo. Many of their releases will end up below bullion. Investors won't be back to this type of collecting for a generation, they will take crushing losses. Just my opinion but this market has morphed into a very bad place imo. To think all these investing in mint collectibles started off as pure bullion stackers looking for safety from financial markets! The royal mint, and the flippers auctions and anyone actively engaged in market manipulation (no regulation, with the mints constricted montages) will leave the modern market as a once and done imo. Apologies for the negative opinion but the poor end investors in this market are so vulnerable to this market. And everyone started stacking bullion. Unreal imo. The royal mint as a division of hm treasury should have more of a duty of care imo, but the horse imo well and truly bolted!
