  • After looking at hundreds of flooded supercars and exotics at copart salvage auctions, we ended up buying 3 of them! This video reveals our new 2018 Maserati Granturismo that we bought for only $30,000 sight unseen at auction. Will it start up and run for the first time?? This car was flooded in Hurricane ida and could have had a blown motor or other electronic issues, but it turns out we may be in for another huge home run profit! The spec is one of my all time favorites, this grey over red leather is stunning!

The exhaust fills with water even with low water line. When the car is hauled onto tow truck ass first the water makes it way into the engine. The oil pan should be drained and cylinders drained before any starting. If there was any water in the pan which the dip stick indicated then starting the engine may have damaged it. Carpet needs to come out and all electronics inspected below the water line.

Better to change the transmission, engine, and differentials oil, and yes the borescope is an excellent idea, also, pull the spark plugs, someone writed that in the comments section, in a sunny day, leave the vehicle completely open, or even better, vacuum it, remove seats, some of the interiors affected by water BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE; it's a lot of work i know, but better be in the safe path in a case like this, it's worth it.

My gut says another win. You two have a great thought process to up your odds of scoring on salvage auctions.
On this one I wonder if the owner was having some problems with the car and used the flood to sell it off to the insurer. Could be the battery was bad, and it had a couple of nasty dings that would cost a lot at a body shop. It is in the area of the flood so why not. Pawn it off to the insurance for write off payout and they have a payday.

funny enough i have the same problem with my buddy’s maserati, a 2018 GrandTurismo too. he drove it in the water and water got in the intakes and in the engine. His mistake was he tried starting the car, of course misfires happened and car stalled. Currently in the process of getting fixed for him, so far electronic parking brake module is screwed, needs a new one from Ferrari/Maserati and that’s over $1000… plus gaskets and all new ignition coil pack. as well as couple of things, ranking up to a total of approx 2-6000$ total. Good luck guys!

We had a few big floods here we had to evaluate some cars for insurance companies we saved a few that the insurance thought was hydro locked, but the driver shut it down before there was damage. Just pulled all the plugs and fuel pump fuse, take hood off and crank the engine over with a battery supply and watch the geyser of water exit out the heads, pretty entertaining.

On Maserati GT, the check engine light comes on for 19 secs after start up & goes off…it’s normal. The TPMS module is under that plate in driver’s footwell. I think it’s shot but easy to replace. Don’t know about suspension light, probably Skyhook suspension not working…sensor or module damaged. Brake lights blinks and goes off normal. This car is very sensitive to battery voltage & some crazy lights can come on when voltage low. Put a new Interstate battery…best one for Mas. My gut feeling is most everything is ok but battery is bad. A bit of water got in engine but I doubt it’s damaged or check engine light will stay on. Needs air filter & fluid change. The fact that it started and moved with no check engine light is very good sign. Let us know.
