    Totally agree with this review. I currently drive a 2016 Ranger XLT looking to upgrade. I can not justify the cost versus inclusions compared to the Ranger I guess it’s a lot of money just for the badge. I would prefer a punchier motor in the Raptor but the 10 speed sure bridges a lot of gaps in the shortfall of the 2.0 Ltr twin turbo diesel to make it ok. Glad the emergency braking and speed sensitive cruise are now included.

      Shane Ruthven i have the same issue but when i see all the 2wd pickups in the winter and they drive slower than me in a front wheel drive Golf i will never buy any of them. I dont want to change drive mode every time i need it, i want some permanent 4wd. This is save in any weather and road condition and you dont destroy your gearbox cause you cant forget turning out 4wd.
      In the pickup class you only have a amarok and xclass with this transmission, v6 power is almost the same, merc has an additional low gear and 3 locks, so the choice is really easy... you get most for your price and yes its a navara underneath but motor, transmission and chassis is from merc and this makes a huge difference.

    Foster child of Mercedes. They produced the x350 d from the leftover parts of other models. Ooo bring body from Nissan, ooo bring some OM642 engines left from W series that we will never use, ooo bring some old C class dashboard from woodshed that are useless, ooo bring old slow multimedia from repository that we will not use anymore... If mercedes used GLE or GLS material inside the x350d, they most probably get different results, they could make best pick-up for Europe. After all I bought one last month. :D

    The hilarious thing about this ute is that one time Mercedes subsidiary Ssangyong offers a more premium cabin and all the same safety tech plus luxury features that Mercedes are too cheap to offer at less than half the price. Then they offer a 7 year unlimited km warranty. Somebody ought to send the Ssangyong to Stuttgart for a bit of suspension tuning and that big engine. Then we'd have a true winner on our hands, even if if cost $20,000 more (making it about $60k)

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 Před 5 lety +1

      SsangYong was never a Daimler-Benz subsidiary.

    • @markgriffiths3804

      @@afcgeo882 in the 1990's Mercedes owned a significant part of Ssangyong. Ssangyong manufactured vans for them and the original Musso was sold through Mercedes dealerships for a short while. My 1996 Musso had a genuine made in Germany Benz engine and transmission and my '14 and '15 models still feature 5 speed auto Benz transmission as does the latest Rexton with it's 7 speed auto. The link between the companies is 100% real. They even had a luxury sedan called chairman that was the 1990's E class with a different body shell. The old Rexton started out life as a rebodied M class as well.

    • @Mcmerc01
      @Mcmerc01 Před 5 lety

      Having driven all of the utes on the market currently, I was so impressed with the Musso, the only niggle is the jitteryness on the rear end is not as sorted as the Ranger or X-Class, besides that, everything was very good.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 Před 5 lety +1

      Mark Griffiths in the 1990’s Daimler-Benz owned exactly 0% of SsangYong.
      ZERO.
      The two companies worked jointly on projects via a contract, a technology partnership. The most famous one being the Musso. However, there was never any ownership stakes traded.
      Daimler-Benz did purchase 3% of SsangYong a few years ago though and even considered buying it out from Daewoo, but that went nowhere.

    • @markgriffiths3804
      @markgriffiths3804 Před 5 lety +1

      @@afcgeo882 is 100% hung up on being correct and therefore misses the point I was making in the first place. Ssangyong are making a ute for less than half the price than Mercedes. Subsidiary partnership or whatever the hell your snowflake self would like to call it,
      the connection is 100% real. Ssangyong to this very day still utilize some Mercedes components (a la 7 speed automatic in the Rexton) Mercedes really did sell Musso through their dealerships badged as Mercedes Ssangyong Musso for a while and my 1996 Musso had a 100% made in Germany 3.2 litre 6 cylinder engine coupled to a Mercedes 4 speed automatic transmission. The previous Rexton started out life as the original 1990's ML320 and Ssangyong made a big thing of the connection between the two when they released it in Korea in the early 2000's

You obviously don't understand the reason for it because you are myopic at best. Its a shame really. Fact is its the x class is better and safer and im sure if you could afford it you would look into it. Stop complaining!

      people pay for Mercs not only for their budge but for its relative luxury feel (even though it could be down on features). With this ute, they have missed this factor when charging 30 to 50% more. Also, if someone buys a ute they generally intend to use it for the purposes their styling suggests, so yes 3 years is laughable.

    The interiors in this market are complicated. To compete, the interior quality level must be x times more durable. A little sacrifice on nice materials for solidness. Hilux is a nice example, loved the world over -- people write deep poems about that thing.

    Mercedes have definitely tried to shortchange the consumer with this one... Probably go down as their biggest mistake of the decade sadly since it was much anticipated.
    Interior is substandard and the rear body feels flimsy. As a Mercedes it doesn't even compete with the higher end everyday bakkies out there like the Ranger, Amarok, Hilux and so on. Nice idea...execution however leaves much to be desired.
