Yes, to some people it's just a tool and for those people there are affordable (and often times disposable) options, but for people that enjoy the engineering, a quality car or watch will bring them joy for ages, if treated well it will outlast you and your kid will use it, admire it, and be reminded of you every time they look at it.

METAS is the highest independent certification for performance for a automatic movement. Rolex absolutely NEEDS to have their movements independently tested by METAS. In-house certification of accuracy like Rolex does is meaningless. COSC is outdated and not hard to achieve by any automatic movement. Time for Rolex to step up and let their movements do the talking rather than their marketing machine.

There is a reason you don't have exhibition backs on Rolex watches, they simply are nothing special to look at, they are outdated, industrial, clunky tanks, a good example is the Rolex Milgauss a Rolex specifically designed to withstand magnetic fields. Rolex achieved 1000 gauss safe, Omega watches are 15000 gauss safe without this special edition tag. Omega put far more into the movements than any other watch brand.

Both are excellent products in their own right and it's almost impossible to pinpoint if one is better than the other. That's in part also a personal take on things, but you can rest assured there's automatic maching and manual labour in both Rolex and Omega. The extent of which, and how they compare is not something we can comment because you would have to line them up side by side in every single minute aspect of the manufacturing process. From raw material, to final product, which is something that's just impossible.
