Thank you for letting us know.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news 😔
Timely delivered great video 👍
Cheers
Don't know about Canada but as for the email we received in the states in regards to, "there will be no more limits to the total number of points a hotel can charge for a one night stay", they said there will be a cap stating, "Hotels and resorts will still have a minimum and maximum number of points for redemption rates."
I really want to book one of those aspirational hotels as one last hurray with my last batch of points but will be tough with a newborn 😭. Decided to blow them on the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Cancun during this new years.
If there’s one constant with ANY loyalty program is that, sooner or later, they always get devalued. Don’t let those points sit idle for too long. Use them!
Great video that confirms my worries on a recent Bonvoy email. Has 5 million points 2 years ago . Down to 1.8 million . Staying at the Prince de Gailes Paris in 2 weeks. Hope to burn the rest of my points in 2022. Thank you !
I was initially pretty upset w/ the changes but I have a feeling this concept of "just can't see Marriott going that far" will end up being the realistic view. I don't think they're trashing their rewards program and moving to dynamic pricing as a way to raid the cookie jar -- I think the major impetus for the changes are more likely "Hey, way fewer people are using their points because pandemic rates are low (continually increasing Marriott's "debt & liabilities balance sheet") and cpp doesn't make sense for the vast majority of hotels right now... What if dynamic pricing makes more sense than dropping a ton of hotels by 1-2 categories, which could come back to bite us in the future". At least, that's the hope -- if Marriott is rational, it should know that loyalty (as OMAAT has talked about) is irrational and we stay w/ them only because Bonvoy loyalty means *something* and devaluing that immensely makes it much harder to retain us.
Let's pray 🙌🏼
Everything related to points eventually moves to dynamic pricing. It's not profitable enough, otherwise why else would they want to do that, well...
are you going to do a video on bonvoy dynamic pricing starting March 29, 2022?
Well done. The truth of the matter is the Marriott CEO announced earlier this year that he wold do his best to protect hotel owners at the expense of guests. Not happy but no surprise here.
I have a trip coming up to London over the New Year. Where should I spend my points (JW Marriott near Hyde Park, Price de Galles in Paris, etc.)? Otherwise I’ll try to book another trip to use up the points by March 2022 but don’t really want to be US$750 x 2 to fly to Maldives after the main flights.
Great video! I can't help but just stare at your title and seethe in quiet anger.
BUT, amazing move on your part because you've diversified and picked up Hyatt Globalist ;)
I've been doing nothing but seething these days. Have a feeling Hyatt will sweeten the deal again for Globalist in 2022, so don't miss out this time 😉
Why haven’t you? :)
Hilton has 95k caps on standard rooms and 120k for a few properties. I have a gut feeling marriott will cap point bookings similarly.
The fact that they introduced 85k certs and the ability to add 15k on top of certs leads me to believe that 100k will most likely be the cap applied to the top hotels with few exceptions. Similar, there will probably be lower caps for less premium hotels. Overall we might be paying more points for stays and its a devaluation, but i don't think its going to be the end of bonvoy. Just the thought of unrestricted dynamic pricing for point stays will lead to so many co branded card cancellations i just cant see marriott going that far.
I have a similar feeling, but I think the cap will land somewhere around 120k-150k just like Hilton. They probably won't want their top hotels to be bookable with the Free Night Awards even with top-ups.
Is there any clarity of what happens if we book a hotel stay before March-2022 for stays after March-2023 for those high value redemptions. Will we need to pay the differential later?
Hi Ricky, I just got approved for AMEX Bonvoy here in Canada!!, is it worth it now? Please help. Thank you
Im burning my bonvoy this coming month especially with expensives hotels
Think it’s worth spending 140k points for 2 days around New Years at westin Whistler? usually I’m on employee rate but no luck for those dates
If you have the Canadian Amex Marriott Bonvoy card can you later link the Amex Platinum to the same account to get bumped up to Gold Status and still use bonvoy card for 5% points on stays?
Does the 1500 net spending mean 1500 in the first 3 months in total?
like the amex aeroplan card welcome bonus, you have to spend 1500 in net purchases to get the welcome bonus.
just wanted to know if that meant just spending 1500 in total in the first three months.
So . . . how does this change the Hilton v. Marriott equation?
So it’s becoming ALL accor way of using reward points?
Was considering ways to boost up my elite nights so I’d qualify as platinum for next year..
Now I wonder what’s the point of it all.
In one fell swoop, Marriott just burned the goodwill it earned with me..
So is this still a good card to get ? 😮
Just used 280K points to book a stay in Colorado. The value is $1300/night so I was able to get some good value out of this. 70k points/night with a 5th night free. Hopefully the points flexibility doesn’t effect us too much in the future :(
Points gang Ritz Maldives trip in 2022?!?
I'm all in. Surely St Regis for the breakfast though? 🤩
@@PrinceofTravel We went to StR already 😝
Since the changes are coming in March of 2022, does that mean that we can book for something in February 2023 under current pricing?
Correct
... and this children, is why I send all my Bonvoy points to my Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account.
It's ok; we'll forgive you ;) Although, it does seem that the writing was on the wall.... hopefully there will be some other positive developments over time, as I'm sure there are also people who also do spend tonnes (more) with Bonvoy and will be upset by these changes. Maybe a fancy high-end credit card in Canada for Bonvoy would be... nice! Can you predict that for us?
Why go through all the effort of earning status when you can't really determine what the status benefits will be in the future?
Shirt is fresh fam
But on a serious note I have 1.2 million Marriott points. Is it time to cash in?
@@terryadams1231 For sure, definitely time to book as many stays as possible before March 2022, even if you won't end up keeping all of them
I personally have locked in one night for both The Mitsui and Ritz Carlton in Kyoto for 85k points each. Hopefully Japan will open by July 2022!
I think having a P2 or more is more important now for hotel points. At least, you can share hotel rooms and elite benefits with one redemption.
Ritz Carlton Kyoto is an excellent choice -- enjoy! Japan looks good for summer 2022 imo
Seriously I’m clueless what’s the dynamic pricing will look like too even I work there lol
😂😂 Do something, anything!!
@@PrinceofTravel all I can say is to lock your sweet spots now. Like right now 😂
Even with the recent announcement, we still have no idea how it works at hotel point of view 😂
We use our bonvoy points to buy their travel packages of hotel stays and airline points. Has always been a good deal. Are they eliminating them?
Travel packages will continue, though it's not clear how they will change given that categories are going away. One to keep an eye on
Is anyone else thinking Marriot did this as a way to force everyone to use up their points and certificates they've been sitting on due to the current situation?
Although travel is picking up it's not at the volume it once was. They know those points & certificates are cash in hand whenever we book, so it's a windfall for all those top hotels. Marriot knows everyone will be clammering for & booking up those top hotels that we save these points & certificates for now that the news has hit.
My 2022 trip to the Maldives has gone down the drain cause there won't be any availability after this mad rush ensues...
actually I am not interested in this points collectors' hotels, so will not affect my miles,,
Should I transfer my Bonvoy points to Aeroplan?
Perhaps not immediately, but keep an eye out for how bad the dynamic pricing gets in 2022 and keep this in mind (Aeroplan or other high-value airline programs) as a solid backup option.
@@PrinceofTravel I'll wait for the video to come out before I make the decision. 😀
It seems like all loyalty program are trying to crush *Aspirational* rewards, really sucks
Hey Ricky, this question isn't exactly for this video, but I missed Amex's Referral bonanza as I just got my card the day it ended. I know you don't work for them or anything, but do you think there is any hope there will be another one? Much appreciated, thanks.
I spent $150k loyally staying at only Marriott's years ago to stay Gold. Back then Gold got you free breakfast and lounge. Few years ago Gold was devalued and breakfast and lounge was taken away. Breakfast cost them $5-10 and lounge was minimal. And they lost thousands of loyal customers. Was it really worth it for Marriott? I hate Airbnb but have been using it more since Marriott doesn't care much.
Gold used to be 50 nights a year so you got breakfast, concierge lounge access, etc. It still takes 50 nights a year to get the breakfast and the lounge but they just changed the color of the 50 night tier to Platinum and created a new tier at 25 nights and called it Gold.
@@pete5668 I guess what I'm seeing is just how ridiculous loyalty is in general. I'm spending 10 days at Marriott Marquis at $670 per night and no free breakfast. I'm Gold. Not feeling the love for sure.
@@91326 I understand you, but the really good benefits start at 50 nights. They always have. 50 is a magic number.
@@pete5668 you’re correct.
Not only is our Fiat dollars being diluted so is our points!!
i am speechless towards the bonvoy loyalty program and feel discouraged to collect bonvoy points....
before anyone says "well then collect airline loyalty points", don't we all need a place to stay when travelling....
the goal should be to travel cheaper, not travel completely for free. because if you expect every aspect of travel to be free, are you also going to demand loyalty points for car rental or taxi rides
Yeah we just got bonvoyed 😢

So this is what is was like 1 year before covid…
I thought ask saby open a new channel, you don't look like him , but in the intro pic you kind of do.
Bonvoy after this wouldnt be the best for points redemption game. It will be good for someone who pays cash but they’re slashing their points game! World of hyatt is my way to goo!!!
Agreed 100%
Inflation for everyone 🤣🤣🤣.
😭😭😭
lolz bonvoyed
Feel cheated. I finally have over 1.5 million points.
I think this way overblown. People are panicking for no reason other than believe they entitled to something they are not.
You're saying we're *not* entitled to free stays in the Maldives?!
@@PrinceofTravel Are we being denied "free stays" or are they simply moving to a new model that is very common in industry today? Does the contract say we promise to never change the system and will keep same price for ever - nope.
I dont really see how this is being entitled. Providing valid criticism about something doesn't indicate entitlement
@@mickylord21 Yeah definitely not entitled. I don't think its even being criticized, the loss is just being lamented.
Well, it's incentive to spend dollars in hotels afterall (spend to earn, not just plain churning). If they gave butter to card owners, how do they not expect people to get sad when butter is taken back. If everything is simple and straightforward, then entire point of cards is useless, and we would going to European standards with rewards and cashbacks capped to rates that are as bad as there weren't any. MB, Airmiles and other programs have to find the balance to not just sustain their existence, but even prove they even worth looking at...
Not happy with Bonvoy. Like at all. 🤬😑👎‼️
