Hey folks! Not sure why the video ended up so choppy. No changes on my end; but I think OBS died. The game was not this chopped up when we recorded actually. I'll look into it for next time. :)

its almost certainly a bitrate thing with OBS....might want to switch to some different software
@@spykillergames8402 bitrate is unrelated to frame rate for the most part and will be VBR anyway. OBS is also the standard nowadays, all the other software sucks.
If anything it will be dropped frames from an overloaded/misconfigured encoder.

I feel like i would enjoy having Hyce as a manager just the right amount of condescending but still explaining everything clearly and precisely.
I have a feeling that this is gonna be an odd double-edged sword of a series for Hyce. It'll probably be popular because it's a new game AND Kan's playing as well, but Hyce us gonna go insane because of all the missing / incorrect details on the locomotives.
We shall see! The game has many redeeming qualities.

Guys I want to remind everyone that, this is an early access game. It is going to take time for things to be corrected. I think it's awesome that they have done what they did right off the bat. I am definitely looking forward to future improvements of this game!
Agreed, they have done a remarkable job, but I also think it’s important for the community to keep being vocal with their feedback. That is, after all, the point of early access. And I think this is especially true in cases where the devs may not have all the knowledge required to simulate a system correctly. They can’t fix something if they don’t know it’s wrong in the first place…
@@Yarf.McBarf Oh Absolutely! I was just saying that because it seemed they were talking about stuff that honestly doesn't affect gameplay. Now with that said, I do hope they DO bring the things Hyce was talking about to add more to the gameplay, because I do love realism. I hope that the devs do listen and maybe bring some people on who can help them with the simulation, because this game could last decades if they do it right.

I understand your "model" railroader name very well. To me everything in Derail valley feels huge, especially the cars and loco's, in this game however, everthing feels like a smaller scale.
Americans run trains. In the rest of the English speaking world we drive them. My job description here in Australia is Locomotive Driver.
Is it just me, is it the video recording, or is the game stuttering af when you move or rotate your camera around?
Seems to be pretty horrible for me as well. His other videos with this game don't have the same issue, that I've noticed.
I can't understand why streamers don't just use a $200 second-hand PC for dedicated streaming, compression, sound, all that stuff.
Then you just need a split on the video output, or duplicate screens, easy peasy.
@@jtjames79Well it seemed to me more like a problem with the moving around. When Hyce stood still and zoomed in, the framerate was smooth and nothing stuttered. So it may not be caused by FPS drops but by the game's network code in multiplayer.
CZcams or OBS pooped itself this go around. No idea which, or why. My apologies. Wasn't the game. The joys of encoding...

Oh man, this is a nice thing to see. I'm just finishing up the last few RRO videos, and these two seemed like they were fighting the game rather than playing it at the end. Hyce and kAN sound like they're _actually having fun_ and enjoying the gameplay and learning curve here, even with the sharp edges of early access.
It's seriously great to see them not in constant pain. I can't wait to see what they get up to, here's to future episodes.

So technically hyce is responsibal for Kan binning it.. The tutorial explicitly mentions are general speed limit of 35 on the mainline and nobody told kan that.

Opening the doors for more cinders in the car. My grandma used to bitch about a conductor that used to do that between Columbus and Milwaukee. Cinders everywhere, and everyone smelling like burned coal.
Fun fact: Whiskey River Ry #12, the Oakland Acorn, has its eccentric crank 180 deg from where it's supposed to be so when you move the Johnson bar forward you're actually in reverse.
When Century of Steam comes out, there needs to be another collab series with kAN
I'm sure there will be. But this (and Derail Valley, if they have more ideas) will certainly do in the meantime.
@@WhitzWolf92 What do you mean with meantime? When reading comments it seems to me like people think COS will come out in a few months but the way i see it, it is at least a year away from release. Am i missing something here?
@@Sweetw4ter Oh, it is at least a year (bare minimum). I've never known "in the meantime" to imply a length of time, short or long, I only used it because it was faster than typing "for however long until COS comes out".
Though, I agree there do seem to be an awful lot of people thinking it's sometime in the immediate future, both in comments and on streams, and I'm unsure confused where they're getting the notion.

I'm just happy it's mostly stable, and playable right out of the box without too much pain, suffering, soft-locking, and game-breaking buggery! **glares at another certain train game that will remain nameless** The bones are definitely there.
And to think I thought that you would be the first one to ES&DT your engine, but nope Kan was, and he's such a silly goose
I look forward to more Hyce and Kan content in railroading games, this game seems fun, but I'll learn a bit from watching you before I think about getting it. I would like to see you guys do more Railroads online together with the newest update, but seeing you guys do this looks like it'll be entertaining as well. I'm so glad you two are truly back in the saddle, or the engineers seat as it were. It's so much funeeing you two run trains,bin trains,and not try and scream at all the inaccuracies of a train game. Yup this was fun watching and it's in many ways a great tutorial video for everyone wanting to play the game right now. I'm definitely a bit overwhelmed just seeing all that has to be done but if I can learn Space engineers I can sure as heck learn this game. Im honestly excited to see future Episodes on this game.

Put an induction heater instead of a firebox. There is a rocket company that has already solved this problem.
Stick as many batteries as possible in the tender, solar panels on all the cars, with each car having one small motor, and a small battery pack.
That will give you regenerative braking, and significantly improve acceleration. But the engine is still doing most the work.
The tender could be designed to be hot swapped with a small motor of it's own.
So you could have extras charging at the statios, using solar or whatever.
Sell the idea as a "green" initiative. This would probably work good for tourist heritage lines. Or even new lines for heritage locomotives using "glass tracks". The sleepers would have highly robust solar panels, like the Tesla kind. Even put solar next to the track so you don't have to do as weed maintenance. Even on a cloudy day that would make more than a train could ever use. Then you could make hot rails that are only hot when the train is directly overhead.
Then we could save all the heritage trains.
And a VR school to get people to operate them.
And CZcamsrs and gamers to make it popular.
Technically doable. Maybe.
Or maybe just stupid.

I feel better that I'm not the only one in train service that can't estimate distance to save my life.
Games like this only hype me up for CoS even more and make me look forward to what kind of logistics/economy simulation it will have, since with the loco simulation that's already been shown - it looks like it would be the best of both worlds. That being said, I've had a ton of fun in multiplayer so far on Railroader, definitely a challenge with 10+ people trying to coordinate everything. Running the trains themselves isn't the most riveting experience, but I feel like the feeling of accomplishing the logistical puzzles / meets, etc. with all your friends is what keeps the game interesting for me so far. We've been running two-man crews per train (sometimes 3), one conductor and one engineer, and that seems to keep things interesting enough coordinating between each other, that the lack of fidelity on the locos isn't too distracting from the rest of the gameplay.
"Nobody makes jonson stick right" - I actually thought about making 2d train sim game myself, with the main point of it being actually do jonson helm right. And all other steam garbage. If you just need to write the code without making a ton of modeling stuff that's possible to actually try to simulate steam the smart way. And finish tha damn thing. The idea died at the questions "what I supposed to do in this thing?" and "why not derail valley?". Okay, it didn't died completely, but it now lives not in the "trains" folder.

Been a conductor 20 years. I really enjoy this game, its probably the closest any game has come to doing what i actually do on a day to day basis. Ive been having fun with it (including doing drops)

From all that has been said/shown for early access on this game, it’ll be exciting to see multiplayer ops and expansion. (One shame is that we didn’t get to see the view from the caboose cupola as the whole train in front of you got browned badly. Cest La vie)

So the whole permissions thing with the titles gave me an interesting idea. To be fair it'll probably be a pain to keep up on but hear me out. I don't know how many people can play at once but, what if there was a multiplayer server for this game set up for discord or channel members and their title on that is what job and permissions they get in the game. Like I'm a Brakeman on the channel so I'll be assigned as a Brakeman and be assigned to a Conductor or an Engineer. Then we can have time tables set up for people to follow and just create this living world. As unrealistic as it is it seems like s fun idea on paper. 😅😅😅

So, is the horrible frame rate expected?
The world just didn't have a great graphics card in the early 20th century. Most of the world opted to get around this by using black and white to get a better frame rate. Now you know why there aren't very many color photos from the old days. This is just an accurate simulation of railroading in the American mid-east.
The game was smooth when we played - not sure what's up with why the video ended up like I did.

Ooh, I kinda like the style here. Definitely more so management/model railroad kinda stuff as opposed to direct simulator. How intensive is the game on a computer? I kinda wanna play it but my laptop has like a 10yo GPU.
In the olden days of the 90s and early 2000s, we had this term called a "demo". It was a sample piece of software made by individuals or a small studio, which was rough and unpolished and often offered for free. Its purpose was to let people try the upcoming software and get feedback, maybe even entice a donation by folks who liked what they saw.
Railroader Early Access is a demo, and I'm sure 1.0 will have many of the issues we see now fixed. 🙂

Hey! Used to live just down the road from Sylva, Dillsboro, Tuckasegee river etc. neat to see a game set there, but scenery in the game really doesn't seem to do it justice...
