- Tomy's Waterfuls were a thing from 1976 through the 90's, somehow. Never underestimate the staying power of cheap children's toys!

Music used is "Hold on a Second" by John Deley:

The graphics have aged pretty well but the physics are floaty
😂😂
The whole console is water resistant tho. Big plus.
Glad you covered the original before the DLC came out!
Daahhhhhh! The DLC was much better, it added more rings
waterful was really the dark souls of water games
EA: hold my beer
The dlcs was over rated and over priced compared to its orignal release!
Uhh, that dlc sucks, it just adds new skins
"Just as I suspected, magic!"
Adrianck45 I genuinely laughed at that
The delivery of that line made me lose my shit. Clint has some good humor.

I am throwing out my pc and getting one of these.
Hardtsonfire You may as well, these graphics scale infinitely.
Specs:
Multi colored rings
Red plastic
Clear plastic
And water
Lazy Game Reviews Are there any virtual remakes of them though?
Karl Slicher I'd say probably.
Aaron proffitt Is there room for an extra air-pump slot? Maybe some LED lights to fit in it? :P
In the span of 10 seconds, you got more rings on that plastic spike than I ever did throughout my childhood every time I would go to my friend's house. For some reason, this impresses me as a 30 year old adult.
PapaKennMedia To be fair, I did practice a lot right before filming. I take my Waterful skills seriously.
You still alive?😭
@@aazeenzaiba8212 nah, I'm dead
@@PapaKennMedia 😭😭😭
@@aazeenzaiba8212 how do i buy this? is this on amazon? 👹
I went through a war 17 years ago. This was the only toy my parents allowed me to take with when we escaped. I remember it being a great companion.
Oh my god. I hope you’re doing okay these days.
i love how your videos take me back to simpler times of slinkies, water snakes, tamagochis and fake cellphones with make-up inside of them.
PrincessMimZ Oh man, those fake cell phones/laptops/etc were awesome to me back then... I should find some and review those too.
Lazy Game Reviews I'd love that! They were useless, but still so cool to have because there's no way most people could just afford a cell phone back then and at that age.
Lazy Game Reviews Or, maybe for a possible kid-computing/oddware entry, the Apple eMate.
I loved all my slinkies! ALL OF THEM!
those god damn fake cell phones! i had one that was filled with candy and played a 5 second, pixelated audio clip of a random j-pop song.
Nice water physics and 2.5D Graphics.
Frame rate seems too low though.
Probably caused by the truly realistic water physics.
DoctorWeeTodd The framerate has been impacted by the recording software, as well as having to render an entire room with a man in it.
DoctorWeeTodd the creators released a kickstarter for water rings 2:electric boogaloo revengence
king bob of space Australia
Google the devs. It's a scam. The last time they tried crowdfunding a sequel, the game didn't live up to the promises, and one of the marketed features of different ring colors was finally released one year later as DLC.
Looks fine to me, people just complain about water levels too much.
There was something strangely beautiful about this video. I loved the shot of your face looking through the water. Thanks.
Glad you appreciated it :)
Had one of these as a kid, The review is spot on lol.
Me also, plus an 'Erudite' word game, lotto with small wooden barrels, a Soviet clone of 'Monopoly' called 'Empire', a pantograph, coloring books, sticky gun, sticky tennis paddles, ping-pong launcher cones.
Especially at the beginning when he mentions how you might've thought this toy was just some unreal childhood memory. That is exactly how I felt
oh man, this was the best part about going to the dentist
joey4track Impressive how many people say they played with these at the dentist. All my dentist had were those weird thing with the shapes you could move around on twisty metal rods.
The orthodontist my sister went to always had a few of the original Gameboy with Tetris for patients to play >_>
goober2049 My dentist had the Nintendo 64 with Wave Race when it came out. I wanted to spend more time there!
Nice.
Lazy Game Reviews They still have those at my dentist. I don't see any kids use them though.
Beautifully filmed. I demand a one hour video of this hypnotizing footage.
Hjälte Björkdahl Haha, it was hypnotizing to edit even.
Go figure! Hahaha. Man, I would watch an hour of that anyday, like one of those fireplace videos!
For a second there I read the title as "Tommy Wiseau Ring Toss".
Now would that be better, or worse?
Oh damn that would be epic
That would tear ME apart.... :)
Shit i read it as that too...
ohai freako
***** do u unnastan lyfe?
It's a ring toss powered by magical water farts. That sounds amazing.
I like how you had most of the rings on when it wasn't even filled up, that's some skill right there.
This thing invokes memories I didn't even know I had. Lots small-town doctor waiting rooms.
"Never underestimate the staying power of cheap children's toys" like a cardboard box.
Next video I vote for Clint reviewing the refrigerator cardboard box. I made mine with a couple of rooms and a working door.
Derg Enterprises I second that vote.
***** where'd you get that quote from?
I made doll houses with mine!
+No more annoyingly long names My brother and I made a spaceship with our old fridge box :)
My mother took mine away when I filled it my unirne
*HA.* Yeah I don't blame mother there.
That must have taken you at least 3 goes to fill it up!
I can just imagine the conversation there;
"Sweety, what's wrong with your toy? The water's yellow."
"I PEED IN IT!!!"
Mom takes the toy away, but only after a well deserved spanking. :)
Kj16V
Though he didn't say how old he was when he filled it. Curious. Hmmmm... ;Beer can do funny things to a man...;) lol
*****
I assume the statement implies that the OP was young, when you consider that the mother took the toy away. If they were old enough to drink underage, the mother would likely either make them clean it out, as well as any other fluids caused by drunken activities rather than take a toy away.
I'm really enjoying this videos where you don't look at games or hardware. It's something so new and refreshing, makes me wonder what will you cover next.
TheLORDMJ Thanks, I'm enjoying making them!
Watching those rings float up and curve perfectly onto the posts always gave me an immense feeling of satisfaction.
I've got the Pac Man variation of this game Tomy released int he early '80s. Unfortunately it's completely useless now as the rubber cork to keep the water in has dried out and rotted. It crumbled apart when I tried to get it out :(
Larry, source a new bung or cork from somewhere....otherwise there is you could fabricate something out of resin and a custom mold, but knowing you, you never could be arsed to do the latter. The one I had, had one of those water pistol style corks in it, I expect it is still in the land of the living, even though it is probably at the bottom of some stinking landfill!
Does anyone also remember the McDonalds variants of this in the 1980s? There was a Mcdonalds commercial for it even way back then!
all four variants are as far as I can remember: Ronald, Birdie, Hamburglar and Grimace!
They must have acquired the Pac Man license later on, because that game already existed in the original 1976 line. It must have just looked so much like Pac Man or people referred to it as Pac Man, that following the popularity of the game it seemed like the right move.
OMG I REMEMBER YOU! I NEVER WATCHED YOUR VIDEOS BUT I'VE SEEN YOU ON ASHENS!
OMG THEN YOU MUST WATCH SOME OF MY VIDEOS!
This is why you are my favourite youtuber, you're not afraid of uploading random stuff and being extremely entertaining while speaking about a 39 year old toy that almost everyone had at some point.
It's funny how many variations of this concept there were.... Heck, I remember a really odd one I had when I was a kid....
So get this, there was a Sonic the Hedgehog shampoo (or was it conditioner? I can't 100% remember) That had one of these things built into the bottle. I kid you not. It's really odd looking back on it.
I think it also had two buttons instead of just the one like on the actual Waterful Ring Toss.
Oh my god, I had the exact same variation!! I remember keeping my bottle of Sonic as a regular in my line-up of bath toys. Kept that thing around for awhile...
I'm pretty sure I had other variations as well growing up... But the Sonic one is the one I remember most clearly. C:
Had the same thing but it was a Mario one. It looked like a game boy color
I completely forgot about these toys until I saw the video. I think I had the same one shown in the video and a variant like that shampoo/bubble bath bottle thing!
Pancreaticdefect Oh wow, yeah I believe that's one version I had.
There was another with Sonic and Knuckles with their Sonic Adventure renders.
That sounds so familiar, but I thought it was bubble bath. Was it by a company called "Bubble Matey"? I'm sure they made them!
Once I had such Waterful games by Tomy. Loved them!! It was back in 1981, 1982 or so when I was 13 years old. No batteries were required, no electrical current, just water! Brilliant. I've purchsed simular games now for my two year old daughter! Thanks for posting this video!
So I'm just about 10 years younger than you and remember having a toy like this. It had three poles inside and was shaped roughly like a Gameboy. It was awesome. Thanks for this video!
Found your channel about a week ago, and gotta love that script, and the use of words/delivery you got going. Awesome stuff man! :D PS. I got Ring Toss as a child too.
Thank you, I hope you continue to enjoy!
+Lazy Game Reviews did u know there's also a sonic version of the ring game?
LGR is confirmed for the more laid back channel ever.
Really man, i love your videos: the jazzy music, the laid back attitude and the nostalgic nature of it all...
Man it's so hard to describe it.
I was born the year these came out. Several years back, I'd get the fuzzy memory of owning at least 2 of these at different times. I believe the first was probably in the early '80's and maybe toward the mid-80's with the second. They didn't stick around for long and I don't remember why. I was able to find one doing a Google search. And I just bought one for the sake of nostalgia and for showing to the other children in my family. Your review is spot-on. For some reason, I thought they'd be a little smaller than I remembered them. But that's because I was making an adjustment for being a tiny child with tiny hands the last time I held one. They're actually a pretty good-sized toy and I should give my memory a little more credit. LOL
When I ordered the Waterful, I also ordered a bag of 36 of those colorful plastic bird water whistles after they popped into my head. I also have a vague memory of owning one of those for a brief period of time when I was between 6 and 8. For $6 total, I thought I'd keep one for myself and give the rest to the young ones in the family. But it seems that half of them don't work. LOL I believe there are burrs and other imperfections around the fipples that I may try to fix with a box cutter.
I went on another nostalgic binge a couple years back and bought a couple of electronic pinball machines, as well as the Entex Baseball 3 handheld game, as well as the Mattel Basketball and Football 2 handheld games, all of which we once owned. It's amazing how we change as we get older. Of course, these are all bought for historical purposes and will be mostly preserved instead of being played vigorously until broken. But in many ways, it seems that most of us do tend to revert back to our own childhoods in some ways. I mean...I would not have been caught dead buying these back when I was 20. LOL
you can find the same thing in the grocery store in the shape of a psp
I had one in the shape of a cellphone in the early 2000 but it melted on the rear shelf of my parents car :(
awww dang
Yeah mine wasnt the hooks though, they where little plastic balls and it had a mini basket ball net
Yup. Kroger stores have them. Seen one just a week ago for $~3 .
I had one of these as a kid it worked until my little brother took it apart. Like you LGR my brother would take stuff apart but would fail in putting it back together.
Hobo Girl It was an important learning experience! As least that's what I tell myself.
I'm 3 years late to this one. But that line, "Just as I suspected, magic" made me laugh so freaking hard. Thanks for the many hours of amazing content LGR.
Your videos always give me a certain feeling of comfort, this was just what I needed today! Thanks LGR.
"Watery Ring Toss" sounds like a 1970s British porno movie
Ghost81 Well theres this czcams.com/video/6TX2OvVFjNw/video.html
I remember my grandmother got me one of these in the '90s when I was little and haven't seen one in action since then. I always thought aliens made that game possible until I saw you take that apart but now I know it's magic. Wow.
I had that exact ring toss game growing up and wish I still had it. I used to play it all the time and took it on car trips to pass the time. It would do wonders for stress relief now haha
I had one of these! Didn’t think mine was that old but holy cow! One of those flashback moments when I saw your thumbnail.
3:25
Just as I suspected... Magic
I remember my friend having one of these when I was a kid. I don't think I had one myself though.
"There wasn't a pile of pieces to lose"
Well, you lost the main water cap :)
Precisely why I said "a pile of pieces" and not "any pieces" ;)
Had several of these growing up. They were GREAT! Thanks for this and all your videos.
That was a waterful review Clint. The sounds of watery flatulence at your fingertips, really brings back memories. Yep, they don't build 'em like they used to.
2:53 is way more funny than it should be XD
Clint, you were adorable when you were a kid
you are adorable now
I love you
omg!! I was so obsessed with this toy as a kid and I too completely forgot about it. This definitely instilled a love of playing with water that is still with me today. Thanks for reminding me of a nostalgic delight.
How nostalgic, I had that game too, plus a couple others, including one that you make a pyramid with a bunch of triangles, and a tic tac toe like game. Thanks for sharing your memories of it.
Are toys like this still around, or do kids now just use their phones to kill the time? I swear I haven't seen a toy store in ages.
yep. but kids these days dont play with them.
Yup. Most of them even come with (shitty) candy, too.
It's called the app store now a days.
Oh CRAP! It's a GREAT IDEA, to make a game like this for smartphones!
I think Toy Stores only exist in Cities now at least that appears to be the case in the UK.
OH MY GOD THESE THINGS! I LOVE THESE!
My mind must be simple, heh. I need to find another one at some point.
I had one of those too! wow. The lost cap thing is what really jogged my memory. Maximum nostalgia! This also reminded me of a head-to-head early 80's water board (water board, not waterboard) game we (brother and I) got for Christmas one year. It was called *Quicksilver* (or some odd spelling that sounded that). have you ever seen one of those? The enclosed in clear plastic relatively horizontal "board" was angled up to a ridge in the middle with some obstacle, and the entire thing inside was covered in some type of water resistant material (wax, or something.. doubt it was hydrophobic ). Each player had a water gun you could aim, and the goal was the drown the other side (once the water got so high, the gun stopped working iirc). The water looked like mercury on the board.
Ohlaird, I had one of these. This and this bubble-blowing teaset I had as a six year old were my life for a long time. Thanks for reminding me!
Where do I find an emulator for this thing? I've been looking all over.
Mrcockington Not sure if serious, but:

I remember these! I had one, not a clue what version though. anyone remember Pollypockets before the weird bigger reboot
I love that you made a review for this; these things were amazing for my childhood self! Great video (:
Nostalgia is running through me! I had the little portable ones you got in your McDonald's kids meal. I'M LOVIN' IT!!!
hahaha I had this game when I was younger
Me too. I had a smaller version though
I played this TO DEATH when I was a kid!! Loved it!
Now I've got to find one and buy it again!
Never thought you could make a video on an old ring toss toy so entertaining. Well done!
Oh. My. God. Serious nostalgia trip. My dad used to have one of these me and my sisters played with. Probably never would have thought of it again in my life if not for this video. Thank You
I'm only 15 but I definitely remeber playing with these when I was like 7 n stuff lmfao.
Omg, I loved these things
Oh man, I remember having one of these when I was a kid. You certainly got the car trip thing right. We moved around a lot when I was younger and this was one of many things I tinkered with while sitting for many hours in the car.
Wow, you're really taking me back to my childhood days! Keep up with these nostalgic reviews!
Next do a review of lawn darts.
Another satisfied viewer. Love this channel
Dr Sayuss Awesome, glad to hear it!
Never had one of these, but I remember a small toy shop in Germany in the late 80's that was filled with Tomy toys, including the waterfuls and robots. That store was amazing!
Holy crap. I forgot these things existed. Your reaction you described at the beginning of this video is exactly what this video did to me. Wow. I can't remember what one I had, but I definitely had at least one or two of these things. I think I had a really small one, and then also a big one similar to yours in the video.
LGR, you can make a video about anything, and it's BJ guaranteed, I never commented on your videos, but I've been watching you for years, and I gotta say you da classiest and swaggest reviewin dawg. For fucksake this thang? Yet, it's still a class-say video and still a video you drink your red-wine, or black coffee to while receiving a BJ. All thanks to your invincible charisma.
The BrenHans Well then. That was certainly one of the more unique endorsements I've received.
Why does this video specify it doesn't have any mature content?
That's a leftover from CZcams's old "shows" system, where they had uploaders provide US TV-standard content ratings for each video added to a show page. It is long since obsolete.
Not to be a douche or anything, but that got me thinking hmm... "Partner rating: No mature content" _must_ be implying there is only immature content. J/K. ^_^' Cool video, and game/toy though.
Fart jokes.
I'm four years your junior, Clint, and I had a Tomy Sonic the Hedgehog one. It was essentially the same thing but with a Green Hill Zone theme.
Awesome video as usual.
I had no idea these were from way back in 76'. I was born in 84 and I had one to! Must of been a hand me down from my older brother. Love your style LGR
Your not real gamer if you haven't beaten one of these.
Someone please make an app of this game :D
“Childhood is strange...” what a beautiful opening! “Strange conversations” indeed.
Oh my God. I saw the thumbnail and I felt a forgotten part of my memory light up again... Thank you for that.
I HAD THIS
Wow so many memories now
I absolutely love this channel. You make something as simple as a water toy interesting, and fun to watch. I actually have a request for you to review the Lands of Lore series of games by Westwood. If you cant't that's alright. I'll still watch this channel no matter what. Cheers!
Oh my god...I remember this at my Grandma's house! It' so weird to see this after so long. Great video!
Ohhh Clint...the nostalgia. I played this so much when I was a kid. Great to see again after all these years
The chain of puns you managed to use in one sentence is what got me to really LOL!
Wow, jut randomly came across this and it brought back so much memory
I used to be really hooked on this, and managed to do weird things, like stacking them by color, or alternating colors with specific sequence, very challenging and satisfying
Wow! Your video just re-awakened the same memory in me lol. I did have that as a child at some point but completely forgot of its existence until now.
I LOVE these. My grandmother had a few in her house when we were kids and I literally spent a month hunting them down online one time trying to figure out what this amazing game was!
"Ah yes, just as I suspected. Magic." had me cracking up for no good reason.
Omg, I remember this thing!! Thanks for sharing, I don't think I would ever have remembered this if it wasn't for this video 😆
The level of excitement I had when I saw that photo in my email notification was...well I should be ashamed I was that excited. I had this exact one! I remember filling it up with everything from water to coke to Kool Aid and I remember the sounds it used to make!
You made my night with that!
I had several of these, and for what they were, they were good clean 'healthy' fun. Tomy did a number of variants over the years, including the smaller "tube" versions, and more deluxe versions, of this size, but with various different "button" mechanisms.
My original was "Crabby Claws", where the aim was to get gently floating balls through the mouth of a crab. The jets of air would move his pivoted claws, which helped/hindered the balls.
I recall having a second one involving translucent coloured shapes that again had to be aimed at some sort of target, and possibly a third that involved getting hoops onto a dolphin's 'nose'.
I still have at least two of these, with box, my parents attic, but sadly time has not been kind to the materials. When I found 'Crabby Claws' a couple of years back, the rubber bung had eroded and ripped off, still stuck in hole. Nice items, though.
Had the same reaction when I saw this video. Suddenly remembered having one of these when I was very young, but never really thought of it again until seeing the thumbnail.
I had completely forgotten about this thing until i saw the icon, my parents got me one of these from a garage sale in the early 90's. I spent many road trips trying to get all the rings on the things.
They had a couple of these in the aftercare room at my school in kindergarten and first grade! I had totally forgotten about them until stumbling upon this video.
That old picture of you had me in tears. You look sooooo much like your father! And those glasses! Wow! I love you Clint, I freakin' love you.
I had a couple of these things as a kid, if I remember correctly they made several different types of these with different pieces and catching mechanisms (I remember one of them having something like fish in it, and instead of ring poles it had a little plastic "basket" thing). Oh, I just got to the part where you mentioned that.
For me, these things are so much more than what face value suggests. As simplistic as they are, I remember as a kid getting absurd amounts of enjoyment out of them. It's brilliant that these things were refillable, so if any water leaked out it was easily remedied (something tells me that a 2017 version of this would be completely sealed in a way that would render it useless if that seal was broken). The feel of the button was almost magical, and in about 2 seconds you realize that you can control the height, speed, and chaos of the pieces inside. Sometimes I'd give it gentle presses, hoping to catch my pieces and other times I'd just mash that button as hard as I could, repeatedly, just to see the chaos ensue. These things, as aggravating as they can be, had a weird calming effect on me, the subtle motions of the water and the pieces inside had a way of just transfixing my brain. It's almost like a stress reliever, just gently pushing the button and watching the pieces gently float around. I did that a lot when I had them.
It's funny to hear you talk about seeing it in the thrift store. That was basically my reaction when I saw the thumbnail to this video. "Oh yeah! Those things were awesome!" I had long forgotten them, but instantly remembered at the sight of it.
Oh my! I used to have one like this, except some generic tiny handheld one, and I totally forgot about it. and i'm not one to forget.
You just made that part of my brain bolt awake too!
Damn, that brings back memories. I had a smaller one with buttons on each side ... I spend a whole lotta time playing with that ... nice vid!
I had this model growing up, I absolutely loved it. there was no frustration like the feeling of filling the spike and then the water jet pushing the rings off.
Oh my god thank you for reminding me of this, I also thought it was some crazed fever dream. I remember my dentist and babysitter back when I was a kid both had one of these. The most I remember about them is the sound and the incredible boringness of it after about three minutes (which I guess would be perfect for a waiting room).
Holy cow Clint. I had that model and also a variant that resembled a Tic Tac Toe board. I don't remember as growing up in a low income family, I just knew that as a lil kid that I thought these toys were great fun and would help pass the time on long car rides. Until I got my first hand held electronic football game. Thanks for the video and the fond memory's.
I haven't thought about these for nearly 30yrs. Now all I can think about is how much I loved them and how I need to get another one.
Thanks for remembering my childhood ! Love your reviews !
Clint, your mother is/was so beautiful! Honestly I really appreciate you sharing bits of your family life with your viewers, along with the quality content you put out. Keep it going, cool dude! :)
I bought one of those football (soccer) variations of this on a school trip in Germany ten or so years back. Never really played it much, but I still have it!
Oh my do I remember this! Great stuff to look back on, such a simpler time :)
:OOOO I had one of these! I totally forgot about this toy until now! I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
