"Don't like my zoo, then why don't you speak to my associates." *dangles guest over sharktank*
lmao
*base boosted zoo tycoon theme plays as the shark mauls the guest*
I remember placing mermaid statues in a fish tank and they would actually come alive. That was a nice easter egg back in the day.
I once played the Zoo Tycoon demo as a kid and made a rare bug by pure chance that made people wait in line to get mauled by lions, thrown out by said lions, panic for a while and then joining the end of the line for a re-do.
I am NOT kidding, i've been trying to make it happen again ever since, but that demo version specifically is nearly impossible to find.
Oh wow
man that hit me right in the nostalgia

I remember actually liking the picky animals when I played this game as a youngster. Sure, it can be annoying to do very often, especially when you try to expand their cages, but I found it really satisfying to meticulously decorate so they're just right, almost like a little zen garden. I probably had a great deal of patience back then, so I wonder if I'd feel the same way playing it today.
I understand how you feel; I was exactly the same way. I would just play in free mode and make habitats for animals, and ignore everything else.
Ah, man. That cage expanding could be a nightmare if you had to make a lot more room. Suddenly, you're getting bombarded with messages about how unhappy your animals are because you added a few feet of space but haven't changed terrain/plant/rocks yet. Argh
i simply enjoyed it because i'm OCD.
Not only did the animals have to like it, so did i!
+AlloftheGoats Yeah I agree, but the super annoying thing was when you put a bunch of trees in the exhibit then the dinosaurs would trample them into rubble so you had to go and delete all the rubble and replace it with trees.
I eventually had to resort to using an exhibit guide a guy made.
Zoo tycoon was literally my obsession when I was younger. I thought it was just about the coolest thing in the world. (Still is one of my personal favorites)
I use to put modded animals in there..I was a nerdy lil kid
@@cavaduh7871 how'd you do that dude???
God I miss this game. I used to spend hours playing this game when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I always used to start my zoo by buying a bunch of lions and naming them after Mufasa, Sarabi, and all subsequent generations. Then I discovered I could fence off the entrance and unleash every animal throughout the zoo without getting shut down. Then my mom suggested I entrap the guests and release the animals, thus making a human zoo. Good times.
Your mom is a genius xD
When I saw the drink stand was called 'Suck my liquids' I spat my Coke all over my keyboard. Damn you, LGR!
Hehe
+Josh Gerhards Magic, obviously.
***** With my fingers.
***** Well, you see, the small amount of Coke that was on my keyboard was quickly wiped up and cleaned, then I proceeded to comment using my fingers and my brain.
atarirob I saw him name a restroom "Take a Giant Shit". Oh, Clint...
omg the music at the end takes me back...
Yees?
The Zoo Tycoon series made me learn what an Okapi was, and now it's one of my favorite animals.
This game is basically my entire childhood along with AoE and now that you have reviewed both I can sleep peacefully at night for the rest of my life. I was waiting for you to mention the animals' pickiness about the habitat because it is no joke fml
Rick Liebe I loved that game too! Some how these reviews complete something inside my heart...
such a charming game. i used to play that game for so long, that my park grew so big, that the visitors didn't go to it's end, because it was too far away
yeah I used to paly that game a lot but now I lost it ,and now I feel like playing it again
+Aleksa Petrovic, you mean AoM?
Where's that fucking single piece of sand hiding so I can get outta yellow....
Zoo Tycoon and its sequel are probably some of my most most played games in history.
Same
I replayed this game recently, it still holds up to my good memories of it as a kid. This is such a great game.
Idk why but I still love these low-quality, 3d graphics more than tryhard HD graphics in games. There's so much charm to them.
That’s how I feel about the second game. Yeah they don’t look realistic but they’re still charming to me
My childhood, returning right before my eyes. *sheds a tear*
Some of the cheats were down-right awesome. Putting a tiger, lion, and a bear in the same exhibit got you the yellow brick road (get it? :D)
Yeah, the cheat and mod support on this game was freaking awesome! :D
Oh my!
I don't get it
@@ericsaldana8236 its a reference to a line in the wizard of oz, thus the yellow brick road
I still don’t get it
Darn it, I want to play Zoo Tycoon now!
me too
Both Zoo Tycoon 1 & 2 were practically my ENTIRE childhood. All I played were those games practically.
I know a shitton about animals and a lot of my knowledge actually came from these games.
Ah, I really enjoyed Zoo Tycoon for the animal-caring aspect more than for the business upkeep. It felt really satisfying to go on sandbox mode and try to create a great exhibit for the animals- hell, sometimes I'd go and create an 'animal reserve' and try to make the entire park a small ecosystem.
I still have Zoo Tycoon 2 installed on my computer, no other game has scratched that itch ever since :( The only games that explore the zookeeping scenario are either lackluster or aimed at small children.
Oh, and that theme music by the end of the video hit me right in the nostalgia. Those were days...
Excellent review of one of my favorite games.
This game actually lead me to joining my first ever game forum online with a site called Zoo Admin. They had a ton of different mods you could download for the game including new animals and attractions. Sadly, I don't think that site is around anymore.
PaleoSteno The official Zoo Tycoon forums had a few mods, I remember downloading one that added dragons from that one Animal Planet special to the zoo. A shame that one is permanently locked as of 2009 as well, though you can still grab the files
It actually is still around Paleo.
www.zooadmin.net/
***** Well, still around, but dead. :P last posts there were from years ago.
PaleoSteno Time to wake the page up then? ;D
I remember joining a couple of forums too, I think the first one I joined was called ZooMania and another one I joined was called Zoo Tycoon Volcano
spent so many hours throwing guests into the shark tanks
I did that too lol and I would attract a bunch of guests in and then trap them in with a fence at the entrance while releasing a bunch of dinosaurs
I preferred throwing mermaids in there! :D
I enjoyed letting Lions loose and killing people, er I mean training security.
Same here XD
I liked how meticulous you had to be for the animals. When I was little it was so satisfying having everything perfect.
Zoo Tycoon 2 review please.
Yes
hi can u give link to radical remake mod please
thx where i can put the files in directory ?
@@rangiferrous6980 what if its pirated?
Will you also be reviewing the sequel? Because the sequel is pretty cool too. Such a shame Blue Fang went under after that.
calebc789 Perhaps someday, sure!
+calebc789 THE SEQUEL WAS AWFUL WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU
+calebc789 Could never play the sequel. My screen just showed blue and played music. I even tried reinstalling it a few times, and never could play. Maybe the video card wasn't good enough for it in retrospect.
It was okay, I think. I have fun playing it but thinking of it as a sequel to this amazing game makes me annoyed.
I quite enjoyed the sequel, though I never got all the expansions for it (only got the marine and extinct packs). It definitely had its own issues the original didn't have but improved on others, so both the old and new(er) iterations are roughly equal in my book.
Oh man, this game has a special place in my heart. So many great memories. I've been waiting for you to do a video over it.
Sophie Phillips Ah! The music at the end! The nostalgia!
Zoo Tycoon... or as I called it "Decorate a huge garden-place with animals sometimes too" I was obsessive about those flower garden tiles, it's a good thing they didn't need watered!
I loved how they put so much focus on species-apprpriate keeping of the animals and then had attractions where people could ride on elephants and even dolphins
+MrsXanatrix i guess animal welfare laws are nonexistent in this game.
@@kylesoler4139 except they very much did exist and it was an important game mechanic! The animals in the attractions just didn't count somehow.
Zoo tycoon and roller coaster tycoon were my favorite games as a kid
"a circular polycarbonate plastic disk" this is one of the many reasons I love LGR
The music at the end gave me such massive nostalgia goosebumps, woah. I used to play that game so much, and no matter how much I tried getting into the newer Zoo Tycoons, this one is still my favourite!
This is my favourite game *ever*. I fucking LOVE this game. Thank you for reviewing it, and please review ZT2.
holy shit i just realised this also came out on my birthday
The video or the game?
Dodgson! We got Dodgson here!
Nice hat. What are you trying to look like, a secret agent?
Say hello to my little friend
uh uh uh.... you didn't say the magic word!
See, nobody cares.
Excellent review. I tell ya, there's just something so satisfying about your opening clanky-typing logo. Makes me remember my early grade-school years when those keyboards were still a thing. I wonder what made them make that sound?
Buckling springs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckling_spring
The nostalgia hit me like a truck in this video. When I was very young, I used to play the hell out of the demo version. YES, the demo version, I never got the paid version until recent years.
I wish that the next project of the creators of Planet Coaster will be a Zoo Simulator, I loved this game and I will be crazy for a newer/similar version :D
Iván Mandiola apparently they trade marked the name PLANET zoo
FishTitan You're joking, right?
From what I could find Frontier Developments actually holds trademarks on "Safari park tycoon" and the more recently registered "Planet Safari", so a Zoo Tycoon-esqe game from them might actually happen.
do you have xbox 1 or 360??
Oh my goodness, yes!!! Such excellent game design for Planet Coaster, it would be amazing for that to transfer over to a zoo simulator. If there's one downfall to Zoo Tycoon, it's that the graphics are definitely old. So imagine a beautiful game like Planet Coaster but with animals! Maybe they could even make it an expansion pack to Planet Coaster where you can have coasters and animals together.
Had this game for years! It and Rollarcoaster Tycoon 3 were some really good memories. Can't find either anymore though... I miss releasing tigers- I mean caring for my awesome guests and sending people flyin- I mean giving people safe rides.
download from gog(legally) or igg games(illegally)
Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection's at Walmart for 5-10 dollars if you're in the US, pretty much all of them have it if there's an electronic section with cheap PC games. I've seen Roller Coaster Tycoon there as well but I've never payed attention to what one(s).

OMG THAT NOSTALGIC MUSIC AT THE END!!! I need to get that game out of storage.
Blue?
@@pedrocampos1787 Blue what?
Kinda mad mine didn't come with the French Toast.
damn it would have been nice to include the french toast in all copies of Zoo tycoon (even Mall tycoon).
This game thought me very important life lessons that I now promote every day like the fact that there's no other creature on the earth realm can poop more than a depressed Spinosaurus, It's almost like an Emo level of depression and a Mama Luigi level of poop. Salutations my dear 2001 software creators, I thank thee for that.
Omg!!!! I was obsessed with this game when I was little, I would spend my Friday nights playing for HOURS! I had gotten the complete collection and it was awesome, except I could never get the aquatic tanks in the right spot, and that used to piss me off a lot. Great review!
First you nail the Duke Nukem impressions, and now you start doing Louis C.K. impressions, oh lawdy
Loved ZT1 and 2 as a kid! I know it's really hard to find these days, but, if you can, you should DEFINITELY review ZT2 and its expansions some day! Loved the review!
The 'stale Toast Crunch' part cracked me up xD
Oh man the picky animals part was spot on! Why are they so picky about fricking ROCKS? Still my favourite Tycoon game ever and the expansion packs add more awesomeness.
I've called my compost building "The shitter" :P
I like your profile picture
I seriously used to think I was bad at the game because of those bratty animals. :P
And the visitors. Those god damned visitors complaining about not being able to find a toilet no matter how strategically well you place them.
Now I really want to find my copy of the Complete Collection
Laura Farr same
This and rollercoaster tycoon were all I ever played on pc when I was a kid. It wasnt until rather recently I discovered there was a RCT2, thats essentially the same, and expansions.
OH MAN. I about lost it when I saw you reviewed this. Haven't even watched it yet...so stoked. Nostalgiaaaaa
I'd just like to say that it means a lot for me to have a stable enough income that I can support you and your content because I absolutely love your videos. I value your opinion so much on games that your reviews have often been the deciding factor on whether or not I buy a game XD I appreciate how in depth you go into games and always always try to find pros and cons to the games :)
Thanks very much :)
Why do I not remember the animals being that picky? This game was basically my entire childhood, and yet somehow my experience with it is totally different from everyone else's...
You should try it again in adulthood. Childhood memories have a way of being quite skewed :)
q306005 Same. I think as kids we ignored our picky animals and put things where we wanted it to be.
I thought them being so picky was just normal, and hey, it was part of the game after all, finding the habitat they would like the most with what you can afford, and then make it evolve when you have enough money. That was seriously fun tbh.
some animals are a lot easier to please than others. Zebras for example were super easy to make happy. Mountains lions? Hell no.
Sweet ass memories! I remember playing this when I was... little. I didn't even understand English at the time and I still know how I asked my sister "What's a zookeeper?" Now I even learned a thing from this review, I didn't even know back then that there were missions. What I remember is that I played the game by looking at the smiley faces of the animals. When it was red, well they aren't so happy so I tryed everything to make them green. That didn't worked so well all the time haha. I still hear my sister saying "What are you doing?! These animals don't even like rocks!"
Ahh yes, good old times.
When I was a kid, I lost my shit when I found out that putting the mermaid statue in a tank gave you an actual mermaid. I made an exhibit with them and dolphins together and I had the time of my life. I have nothing but good memories of this game :)
How come you never did a game review of Zoo Tycoon 2?
I found this searching for it, it's one of my favourite games and I'd love his views on it...

Same here for both accounts XD

I'd still like to see him do a review of it though XD

Do do do do do do do do! Do do do do! Do do do do do do do do, do do do do!
This was the best game ever! Thanks for reviewing something so special from my childhood!
man this one brought back some memories. I about lost it when you were talking about the picky animals. I remember getting really frustrated because the animals wanted specific rocks in specific numbers.
I love Tycoon games and sincerely love Zoo Tycoon. That freeform mode ate up hours and hours of my time as a kid. Loved it all.
I remember making bunch of empty rooms to put a man with beasts in each one of them .. and i remember you could actually feed the animals in series.. 3? like their water and stuff. it was so cool ah old days
I could imagine that PETA probably hates this game. oh and the Blackfish reference gave me a laugh.
This game was my childhood, and sometimes I still open it up.
I actually loved the exhibit creation; taking the time to make every enclosure just right was always satisfying to me, especially when I got good enough at making them that the animal didn't even have to be there to tell me the right tile set/rock/tree combination. And I loved feeding all my unhappy guests to the sharks... or building a wall around the exit and releasing all my predators...
Good times...
Thanks LGR...you reminded me how much I loved this game a kid and I am now tracking down a copy.
still waiting on a real zoo tycoon 3
My childhood YEEEEEEEE
same...
dave_redstonian Mine too.
Oh god this game was my childhood, thank you so much.
This was my childhood, this was like my first true video game i ever had and played. Some people had mario on the NES, other sim city 2000 but for me, it was zoo tycoon
I loved this game when I was little along with Roller Coaster Tycoon.
Hey! I just noticed!!!!
You have over a QUARTER OF A MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!!!!
Congrats man!
"The Computer Chips must flow."
Thank you!
Aha, one of the game I played much when I was little ! With Xanadu to pet unicorns uhuhuhuhu ....
In middle school I took a class that was dedicated to this game. We were graded based on how well we ran the zoo. It was such a fun class.
Another one of my favorite childhood games. Basically my four best games ever are roller coaster tycoon, zoo tycoon, Microsoft flight simulator, and war thunder.
"eat my meats". LGR, I'm not sure if I should laugh or be extremely worried about you
There was a mermaid easter egg in that game, no?
knuxiefan1994 Yes. You put a mermaid statue into an aquarium, it would crack, and a mermaid would emerge.
But this was if you had the Marine Life expansion pack.
ah, I see
yep the statue trick
There were other easter eggs, too. Name any exhibit Xanadu, and both a black unicorn and a white unicorn would become available for purchase (base game). Name any exhibit Cretaceous Corral, and you'd unlock a triceratops (Dinosaur Digs). And if you named any exhibit Super Croc, you'd unlock a huge crocodile (again, Dinosaur Digs). And the Wizard of Oz easter egg where if you put a lion, tiger, and bear together in one exhibit, you'd unlock a golden pathway (base game).
I keep seeing your videos pop up but never bothered trying out LGR until now and I'm glad I did. I've got a lot of binge watching to catch up on.
I remember going to Staples on a Saturday morning in early 2002 and buying this game. My family had just gotten a new, although budget, Gateway PC and this game ran fine on it. I was hooked for at least a few months. It was the first park simulator I've ever played; a year later I would get Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for PS2.
speaking of isometric business simulation games. Will you ever do a vid of The Movies? I know it's not exactly a super old game but it's still pretty awesome.
I plan to, yes.
It deserves a review i agree! It does a few novel things in it.
I love your videos! Please never stop making them! :)
Thank you, certainly have no plans on stopping!
This just makes me want to break out all my early 00's games and relive my childhood. *flees to find my copy of zoo tycoon*
It was such a solid game for something I got out of a scholastic book catalog in middle school. The expectations were already through the floor.
I've always tried to blend tigers and bengel tigers for efficiency, but they always bitch over one single square of land. That's the only thing. You can't have them both perfectly because of one square.
The only real thing you could do was create two enclosures and disguise it as one.
Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon 2 are the best games i have ever played, unfortunately i don't have a CD station in my PC anymore so I am still waiting for a remastered version on steam
I bought Planet Zoo recently. It is visually quite stunning, but not a patch on Zoo Tycoon 2. When I was a kid we didn't have games like this. Absolutely love...
THIS. THIS GAME. Oooooh baby how I LOVED this game. Just passed up on it at a local Goodwill. Still kicking myself for it.
I've been waiting for you to play this game! This is another of my nostalgic favourites!
Holy shit I played this all the time as a kid!
My childhood~
This game was what peaked my interest into wildlife and I replayed it recently and it still holds up as a great game enjoyed the video by the way.
really loving how many videos you're doing a week now!
It feels just right, theres always a new LGR when I need one!
Thanks!
Glad you approve :)
holy damn that music is nostalgic!
this is one of the first pc games i haved #nowyouknow
The more you know.......
After watching your reviews on RollerCoaster Tycoon and sims series, I've been waiting for you to review the Zoo Tycoons. So much happiness. So many hours of my life have been spent on this and similar games.
I have watched almost all of your Sims related videos for the past few years and some DOS game videos, but I never realized you did a review on this! WHAAAT - If I had never known the Sims games, this would definitely be my No. 1 favorite game. That music at the end hit me with so much nostalgia - especially because I tried to start my old disk I got over 10 years ago, and it seems to not work anymore :( Nonetheless, thanks for a great throwback video and super entertaining spot-on snark as usual. Love your channel so much more, Clint!
Hey Clint, is that Worms United box on the shelf the one I sent you? Wicked! It's obviously taken pride of place among your collection!
That it is!
Wonderful!! I'm absolutely over the moon!! Hope you'll get many years of enjoyment out of it! You'll have the relevant hardware to run it on plus you'll have Dosbox on your newer machines anyway. Speaking of moon, did you see a solar eclipse today? I did. I didn't see it directly as it was overcast over in Ireland but it still got noticeably darker. Good luck! PW
Hey LGR have you ever played Sim Golf? One of my favorite games of all time, it seems like it would be up your alley.
I have, both of them! They'll be covered on LGR eventually.
Lazy Game Reviews Sweet! Might go fire it up right now because I'm thinking about it!
Thanks for the reply!
I think this had to be the first PC game I've ever played! I'm so nostalgic right now!! Great review, LGR!
man..this game and roller coaster tycoon was my life back then lol
I played the absolute shit outta this game back when it got released. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Anyone else remember the DS version?
t3h3p1c0n3 I played it so much when I was younger. x'D
Was there ever even an ending to the DS version? I just remember playing it all way until I had no new animals to unlock....then the zoo just kind of stood there.....normal....
+t3h3p1c0n3 It was awful.
DS version was awful
ClassicLegoCinema I don’t think there was an ending lol
I remember getting this game. Read through that manual for 3 hours in the car...
Ahhh that theme music! I've just been hit in the face by nostalgia xD feels good
This is scripted and well edited.
Why is it lazy?
Just a show name, not necessarily a lack of quality ;)
Because the review is like 15 years behind schedule ;p
To those who have been craving for a worthy successor to Zoo Tycoon: www.planetzoogame.com
From Frontier Developments, the makers of Planet Coaster. And no, it's unrelated to the crappy 2013 reboot.
Grats on 1mil bud, you deserve it! Keep the good stuff coming!
These 3 games are some of the only original PC games I've kept for back in the day and I still love them ;)
I just noticed that i have this game right infront of me, yep all the add ons, not kidding, is it rare?
Nope! But it's fun!
give it to me!! I played that shit my whole childhood, god i miss it
Nick, you confused the fuck out of me when I saw your comment.
If you want to run a dinosaur theme park you guys should all try Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, one of my favourite games from my childhood!!!
that game is getting expensive now because there isnt a digital release.
+magic1wizard download it from online. its not difficult to find
I've seen so many playthroughs of that on CZcams. I would seriously like to have a go at it.
I remember spending hours playing this game when i was a kid, it was one of my favorites. This brings back a lot of memories so thank you for reviewing it!
For some reason I remember this game being 4k quality lol, I guess that's the power of nostalgia. That theme song at the end took me back, waaay back.
