    I'd still like to check this out.
    I saw a box set of Seaquest at Menards in the movie section.
    The figures look great.
    I would at least like a Roy Scheider figure.
    Thanks for the video

    Seaquest was a copy of a 1960s tv show called, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". I understand that Steven Spielberg tried to get the rights to Irwin Allens, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" but, the late Irwin Allen's estate could not be negotiated with. Irwin Allen's estate wanted a lot of money.
    The concept for Seaquest was a good idea. But, the writing was terrible and got worse as the show continued.
    I wonder whatever happened to that Seaquest DSV toy concept model?

    I enjoyed watching season one, and was able to tolerate season 2. There were some real gem of episodes in there, but it really was completely unfocussed and rudderless once the network started to tinker with it. The figures were Playmates sculpting excellent, it just wasn't possible to do much with them once the series started to lag.

    It's a show that had a ton of potential. But, never quite realized it. I enjoyed a lot of the casting. Both Roy Scheider and Michael Ironside made excellent and contrasting leads. But, the show would've been much better with a "Battlestar Galactica (2004)" than a "Sliders" approach to it's redesign. A casualty of the times maybe... Maybe comparing the approach as "better a Star Trek DS9 than a TNG" would be a more apt comparison.

    This was the only 90s sci-fi show that I wasn't into. I remember seeing commercials and the figures at conventions. The figures looked cool, but I thought the show looked stupid. Why would you put space in the ocean? Now, with underwater UAPs and newer information, the idea seems more reasonable. Maybe I'll watch it someday.

    I didn't give this a chance when it came out. I do remember an episode about a dinosaur crocodile. I thought it was OK. It's a shame the producers didn't listen to Roy, he was a veteran actor.

    What I remember most vividly about that show when it was on was some of the pithy comments made about it by both critics & viewing-audience members alike. One individual called it "Das Bomb"; another suggested it be called "Journey to the Bottom of the Ratings." One female critic really didn't like the annoying female characters on the show & suggested the title should be "Seaquest PMS," and asked, "Didn't any of these women think to bring along Midol on the voyage?"

    Loved this show back then, but by Season 3 it got really off track.

  • @jjdigitalvideosolutionsllc5343

    We watched this back in the day primarily because an Amiga 3D animation program NewTek's Lightwave 3D was used for the special fx. This was also used for Babylon 5. Later versions of Lightwave 3D would be used for Firefly and the SciFi channel reboot of Battlestar Galactica.
    We lost interest as the show progressed from season to season. I later found out they recycled some footage of Airwolf for an episode with William Shatner.
    I don't think that I even knew SeaQuest DSV had a toy line.
    I did have an Atari 2600 Activision game called SeaQuest, long before the TV show and unrelated to it. A different sub from a different era.

    I laughed at this show. A submarine that was 1007 feet long that could reach speeds of 160 knots. That's a shade over 184 MPH. In the 2032 series, it had attack fighters/subs that could hit speeds of 300 knots or just over 345 MPH. Submerged. The whole sub and ships would have been causing widespread ecological damage.
    Then while it did have Ted Raimi in it yay! the patchwork soldiers GELFS were a wtf mess.
    Seriously, this show was like the TEMU version of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea only far less believable.

    Didn’t the show kind of indirectly/directly ruin Johnathan Brandis’ life? If I remember correctly, he was launched into teen idol status that first year. It was kind of short lived though since the show fizzled out and he didn’t really have any other notable success before committing suicide in the early 2000s.

    • @adlad75
      @adlad75 Před 27 dny

      He was already a well-known kid actor prior to SeaQuest, but the unpopularity of the show probably didn't help his career when transitioning to more mature roles.
      "After his death, friends reported that he had been depressed about his extended career lull and was reportedly disappointed when his appearance in the 2002 war drama Hart's War-a role he hoped would revive his career-was significantly reduced in the film's final cut."

    Thats exactly what it was: "Star Trek under the sea". It seems like every character had a ST:TNG counterpart at one point or another. The season 3 reboot was too little, too late.

  • @mikemonk4375
    @mikemonk4375 Před 27 dny

    Yeah… I’m gonna tell you what the problem is with submarine shows. They’re one trick ponies. Once you do the scene where a giant octopus attacks the sub, which is what everybody wants to see, you’re pretty much dead in the water, pardon the pun. Unless you’re talking about the Beatles Yellow Submarine. But that’s a really fucked up movie that you gotta eat LSD to really figure out what’s going on.
