The main problem is that once children get married, parents should themselves explore new hobbies or have some common goals to pursue together as older couple. A lot depends on the elders of the family and their mind set. If giving respect is an art, taking respect is also an art. Healthy boundaries are important. Once children get married, there should be no control or interference from the in-laws side. This kills the new budding relationships in the family. The new relationship needs time and care to nurture and grow. By setting a graceful stance, the elders and in-laws will be more respected, and they too can enjoy their new role with the married children better. At the same time, the newly married couple should also include and respect elders within healthy boundaries. Relationships don’t last if they control and suffocate each other.
