    My dad built up a nice system with his new evaporator, now he's dialing in a RO system to cut down boil time even more

      RO systems are super cool. I’m thinking about expanding to even more taps next year and building a small system.

    I produce maple syrup too, but the part of this video I enjoyed the most was your daughter helping. Boy do I miss those days! Enjoy it to the fullest my friend, she’ll be asking for the keys to the car before you know it. Video shared.

    Keep up the good work. I love maple syrup making. Been doing it since I bought my farm 6 years ago. Every year I've improved the process. Reach out if you have any questions. I'm in NH also so our production should be similar. Thanks for sharing. Marc

    Yo! Like the set up! 24x21” pan? Custom made? I have the same set up with a 24x18” flat pan, fits the barrel well…looking for a divided roughly same size…where’d you score that one?

    • @219jello
      @219jello Před rokem +2

      Check out Smokey Lake Maple Products. I just picked up their 16"x30" flat pan for my barrel set up. They are very knowledgeable if you have any questions. They talked me out of their 24"x24" divided pan because it's not long enough to develop a good gradient and the pan size I bought will keep a more uniform heat in it because it covers more of the fire below.

    That evaporator looks pretty nice, it’s tempting me. Plus it’s multi-purpose, maybe you could build a pizza oven contraption that would also sit on top 👍🏻. Great video Jack, it’s 9:30 am and I’m hungry for a pork chop, guess I’ll cook some bacon instead 😂

    Dang, it didn’t even really cross my mind the capacity needed to keep a tray like that rolling. Looks like you got one hell of a seal around the pan. You’ll have to send me some pictures of what you did. Bet my syrup is a tad more Smokey than yours hahaha

  • @laurasnyder2675

    Why are you melting ice to get into the pan? If part of your sap freezes in the bucket, there's no sugar in the ice. All the sugar is in the part that didn't freeze. Throw the ice on the ground.

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead  Před 3 lety

      That’s actually a myth. Ice from buckets has tests upwards of 2% sugar. When you are a small operation like us, every bit of sugar counts. If we threw away 5 gallons of 2% ice, that’s equal to 2.5 gallons of 4% sap.

    • @wisconsinfarmer4742
      @wisconsinfarmer4742 Před rokem

      @@TheMindfulHomestead True, it is a myth. At sap concentrations the freezing point depression gradients do not justify throwing away that much resource.
      I guess by her reasoning, you should be able to freeze an entire bucket and have pure syrup left in the middle of the ice block.

    What ever u do..DONT EVER boil inside. It will coat your sealing.. do a drip system for sap when you take surgical tube. Place in a pail up high and let it run free flow into your pan.
