Mindset MV is the best choice in terms of a first listen. Or rather, a song that slaps even if their style isnt your thing. I also dont listen to many of their songs but Mindset is one of the best songs in my personal Playlist.

I also think that 'I wish I' will surprise you a bit in a positive way, but I think we have to respect your opinion that, at the end of the day, GS will not be something for you. After all, it would be boring if we all had the same taste, right? 🤭✌🏻

"Not my taste in music" is a common reaction for the first listen to Gacharic Spin but they have won over many fans like you. Yes, GS is a group of extremely talented musicians but they are "different" since they aren't following a trend but combining a variety of genres to create their own sound. Of course for me, this is the reason GS has become one of my favorite bands. The energy of their live shows is off the charts. My live recommendations are...Gacharic Spin - I wish I (Official Live Video) in 豊洲PIT (Lyrics in English) A harder sound but don't be fooled by the intro. 【Live】Gacharic Spin「TAMASHII」2019 which has both Hana and Yuri as drummers
MindSet (Live at EX THEATER ROPPONGI on June 20th, 2021) which was my introduction to this amazing band.

Since you're open to trying more from Gacharic Spin, may I suggest the music video for 'I Wish I'. Give the song a minute to get where it's going. Literally.
Gacharic Spin aren't a metal band, really. They do wander over to the metal side here and there. But you'd have to try one of their side projects, like Metallic Spin, for actual metal. Even then, Metallic Spin is very retro in style. There's also DOLL$BOXX (dolls box), yet another side project with singer Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus. Their song 'Shout Down' might be a good place to start.

Not sure if your expectation was to hear a metal or traditional jrock song, but they're not that kind of band really. They're more about blending different genres of which the main three would be rock, pop and electronic music. If you're still looking into their heavier side you might want to watch Live Every Moment (there's no MV only the live version) or Kishikaisei Forever, or look into their side project DOLL$BOXX which is in general heavier than GS.

I get it. Baku Baku is pushing the envelope of their music. ‘Mindset’ has been recommended by other people and I agree it’s another MV to watch. GS live…well let’s just say their energy is unrivaled. Angie’s addition to the band, red haired vocalist, has added a playfulness the band was missing. Watch her running around the stage and getting people to laugh in the studio helps people understand how much personality she has injected into GS.

Unusual choice for a first listen? I hear what you are saying, they are a punk, funk, rock, metal fusion group. Maybe Watch the MV of Mindset the live of Timashi and the MV of I wish I before you right them off completely..
    Best wishes from France

@@BraindeadBreakdown Yes there is.. They are a very unusual band and more of a live High energy performance band, all insanely tallented. I hear you when you say they are not really your cup of tea, and I think I understand why, but check out the ones I mentioned and I'm sure there will be something you like.. They are all different..

I like your honest reaction. If this track had been my first exposure to Gacharic Spin, I would have had a similar first impression, not exactly my cup of tea.
The track that changes everything is the MV of Mindset. The live version is good as well, but the MV is a must see, still funky, and the bass riff is a killer! Cheers.

GS can go much lighter than this track, so I agree with others you'll probably not find so much to your tastes other than a couple of their heaviest tracks - I would give a shot to their side project Doll$boxx next instead - Shoutdown has been mentioned a couple of times already and I'd agree with that (MV or live)

your reaction on this one mirrors mine exactly. not much more for me to say on that front (cuz you already said it all).
I must draw your attention to a band i just discovered in the last couple of weeks, and immediately became my absolute favorite Japanese band ever ..... ASTERISM.
i suggest starting with either Church , Dawn , or Light in the Darkness.
they're primarily an instrumental band (though their latest album seems to have a few vocal songs ; but i'm still trying to figure out what i think of those) ; and based on how you've talked about your past musical tastes, i feel confident that this band will knock your socks off.
and to make them even more impressive is just how young they are (and especially how young they were when they started).
so go ahead and do yourself the favor, and you can thank me later.

Asterism for the win. Their instrumental 'Church' is a beautiful experience. Plus, it's Haruka's 21st birthday today. 🎂

Yeah " Mindset " is mostly the first Contact Reactors have with this Band. Well does not matter much but Mindset , I Wish I , Tamashi Live are great. That makes this Band so special. I am honest , it is a hit or miss for me with Gacharic Spin . I do like every Track but I do not Love them all. BakuBaku is more on the Like Side.

GACHAPIN have been doing their thing for 14 years, during which they have been making music in a variety of styles as their lineup has evolved. Three of the original members appear in this current lineup, which includes three lead vocalists. From the beginning, their focus has been on delivering the most entertaining concert experience possible. However, as their songs are rather intricate and complex, and their concert are frenetic and chaotic, it’s best to listen to the studio recording first, before checking out one or more live recordings.
That said, to understand how hard they can rock, see how GACHAPIN opened their set at NAONのYAON 2023, the Tokyo festival celebrating female musicians. This starts with an abbreviated version of REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY, followed by THE COME UP CHAPTER, in a super frenetic, chaotic, heavy, and tight performance- czcams.com/video/eEFYh3WiybA/video.html

Thanks for the reaction! If I see your reaction to Periphery and the smile on your face, when you listen to traditional prog-rock, I doubt you'll enjoy Gachapin, no matter which song you'll listen to. GS usually doesn't do traditional stuff, they mix everything from EDM, Jazz, Rock to Rap. My crystal ball tells me, that you'll like something from each song of theirs, but never a whole song, cause they are pretty different to what you like (from what I gathered from your yt-channel).
    Have a nice day :)

It's possible, and I'd predict the same with the reactor-staples like Mindset and I Wish I. I'm thinking back to my own start with GS, as I'm also from a rock/metal/prog background in taste, and which songs got me into them (I'm a big fan now). It tended to be slightly more obscure songs which worked for me. The live version of Dragonet by Doll$boxx (which is a side-project of Gacharic Spin), might be worth a try, for example.

I'm a huge fan of progressive rock/metal yet GS is up there with my favourite Japanese artists. Then again, I also like synthpop, so I like the electronic stuff GS has put out as much as their rock material. The key is to have a broad taste. Having said all of that, BakuBaku really doesn't do much for me.

Not sure you're ever going to " LOVE " GS but before you decide to write them off completely you might watch the MV of " MINDSET " - if nothing else it's definitely worth the experience and shows their musicality at it's best ( which is superb ! ) . Also worth taking a look at a sort of side project of their's in collaboration with the vocalist from Unlucky Morpheus - Fuki called DOLL$BOXX . It's a bit heavier and might be more to your taste 🤷‍♂

Why you got them in comments and various Japanese bands. There is no significant rivalry between the band and their fans. Everyone has their favorites, but they have one thing in common, they want these bands to be known worldwide. Many would also go to all of them in concert if they were performing nearby. These fan groups also include those of VOB and The Warning

Since you are checking out more the two you need to listen to are Mindset & I Wish I. The later will probably appeal to your ear if you stick with it and listen to the whole thing as its a bit of a genre rollercoaster. The bassist is F Choppa Koga who has the best bassist name other than Ling Tosite Sigure's '345', aka Miyoko Nakamurae, who could not love her.
