- This year we decided to grow our own potatoes in 5 gallon buckets. The results were not as impressive as we expected. Perhaps we are done with growing potatoes.

You shouldn't say that this doesn't work because it does. The reason why you only got a few potatoes is because of how you planted it. Don't use the whole potato...why? Because potatoes don't grow downward. If you notice in your video, the potatoes that did grow were above the potato you planted, not under it. Put your potato on your counter for about 4 weeks or until it starts to sprout/root from the eyes. You'll want 2-3 eyes per piece or just cut the potato in half. Put a third soil in the bucket, put cut side down/eyes up, cover with 3 inches of soil and water. Fill when needed. Oh and only one piece per bucket to prevent crowding.
please don't give up a true gardener never gives up try again at first you don't succeed try again ok I ve fail at times but I keep on going :)
Shit, you got more than me. I have yet to get potatoes. But I am learning from my mistakes. At least my corn, okra, mint, and beans took off.
NOT A FAIL ! Last year I planted 2 containers with 1 potato each. At the end of the season, I got 1 moderately small potato and a very tiny potato. The larger of the two has sprouted chits. I'll replant it to see what I get. Never -A - Fail !!!!!!!!!!!1
Not sure where you went wrong. I just harvested 1 bucket with 17 potatoes.
Add fish bone meal and fish blood meal it certainly helps.
This is by far a better method for growing spuds. Lots of fun...
I agree don't give up, look at all the variables. Water, Sun, Temperature, Type of soil. Do some internet research. You will crack the code. :) Try again!
not a fail the lord blessed you with something be thankful for that
Try Kennebecs. They grow well in pots.
I want give up cause my indoor plants died on me I guess I water them to much but I'm learning
I've did this last year as an experiment. I used plastic totes, not buckets. You can get 2-5 plants per tote depending on variety. I wont do it again because it's not economical, potatoes are cheap, but I did have a better harvest.
If you want to try it again, don't use any topsoil. Use potting MIX, not potting soil. Keep it well watered because these plants really use up the water. And you must allow for drainage or they will rot. I didn't use any fertilizer, but it might have helped. I used 3 totes, and I got about 15 lbs of potatoes.
