Winota is just an awful match up.
My first magic played was a guilds of ravnica draft. My pack 1 pick 1 was Niv Mizzet Parun. When I learned about commander, he was my first deck. When I first heard about the Spike Feeders, I saw an episode where Jerry was playing my beloved dragon, and I became hash tag team Jerry.
Little did I know how I had been deceived.
For the Winota triggers, since they resolve separately you should assign who they attacking as each trigger resolves, not wait until all have resolved. It’s a small thing but gives Alex a lot more (inappropriate) information when assigning attackers cheated in from Winta
Why did the culling ritual kill the Dryad arbor?
Definitely should have survived it. Not sur if it would have saved the game for Elliot (probably not?). But maybe that extra velocity would have let him combo a turn earlier!
I also came here to mention this. It does say nonland so probably shouldn't have killed it

Yeah I think you're right. They're in the same layer but because of dependency, Yavimaya becomes a mountain

card type changes are before ability changes. (iirc) so it should make everything a forest, then everything gets turned into mountains. it's weird like that.

I don't think I've ever seen a pod recover from a board wipe so thorough, followed by a Doomsday pile to combo win. Magic is a wild game.
Is there a reason Jim didn't Deflecting Swat the Kiki activation on the last turn? Make it copy Order of the Sacred Torch and you've bought yourself a turn and can roll the dice on dying to Jerry instead of definitely dying to Alex.
12:18 - half of 35 rounded up is 18, Jim should've been left at 17.
Others have pointed out the Arbor/Culling Ritual, and Moon/Yavimaya interactions so I won't reiterate them.
I debated swatting it, but without enough mana to hardcast the Kiki I was drawing dead after it left the top of my library. At best it extends the game with no benefit to me and at worst it's kingmaking.
@@TheSpikeFeeders yeah, technically you *could* cast it by sac'ing all your goblins to Prospector but then you don't really have anything to copy with it. fair enough.
I am just a bit confused about Yavimaya getting around the whole blood moon effect. Shouldn’t it be turned off since it’s a non basic?
After looking it up we realized Jim got it incorrect in the moment. The relevant rule is 613.8.

This is a layer 4 Dependency case which is the basic example where Urborg was used. Yavimaya is dependent on Magus, so it's a Mountain and will not turn everything into a Forest.

Could they not have delayed the win by a turn by swatting the Kiki ability?
With 2 cards in my library and no way to hardcast the Kiki Jiki after it was off the top of my library I had no way to win the game. No good reason to extend the game at that point.

Built a pretty casual Winota. Used her twice. She obliterated my opponents. I'm not sure I should run her again despite the deck having pretty mediocre creatures in it! Boros needs to chill!
Haven't even started the game yet, Winota was a mistake.
Winota would absolutely suck if the creatures she brought in weren't indestructible, she would be a typical boros commander
