There is no other voice, which can sing out the notes of emotions deep within the recesses of our hearts quite like him. Listening to him is like an emotional release, almost therapeutic in nature. It is said that, an artist is one who can express the unexpressed feelings of the masses. If that is true, Jagjit Singh is an artist-par-excellence by the very definition. His deep voice holds the key to perhaps every emotion locked within us.
While the above-mentioned albums were breezy, Beyond Time released in the early nineties was an experiment with sound and soulful poetry and conveyed a feeling that was beyond mundane. Around this time, a shocking incident rocked their world. The teenage son of the couple passed away in a car accident. The grief left them musically barren for a considerable period. Finally, they broke their icy silence with Someone Somewhere, which was also than swan song of Chitra Singh. She chose to be alone later on with the pain in silence.

Shiv Batalavi jis Da naam sunde hi loo kande khade ho jaande ne - such a wonderful poet. He studied in Baring College Batala. I was also a student of this college from 1978 to 1980. Prof Saqi ji who was also teacher during Batalavi ji’s time used to share his stories. Oh ik alag hi rooh c. Isse lai shayad jaldi hi sathon door chale gaye.

Shikra means Shikari Pakshi, a bird which collects its food by hunting. Baaj ko bhi kehte hn..🙂
