UNDERTOW Spinning Roller Coaster POV Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Check out this mounted POV of the new UNDERTOW at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that soft-opened on October 19, 2013. The UNDERTOW was built by Maurer Söhne to replace the aging HURRICANE that operated from 1992-2012. Prior to that, a Schwarzkopf JET STAR operated on the same spot from 1972-1991.
Filmed & Edited by American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) NorCal Region.
On-ride video was filmed with prior permission from the park. Do not attempt to film on any ride without permission or proper training.

I still think one of the scariest rides that I ever rode at the boardwalk was the Wild Mouse back in the 70s. That damn thing felt like it was going to come off the tracks!

I remember going on this for my birthday a couple days ago. Me and my sister rode it facing backwards, and we were about to leave Santa Cruz. So it was gonna be our last ride (of the trip,) we wanted to make it special. When it started going up, we went "we have... LIFFDOFF.
Into the SKYYYY" (lovely homestuck reference i know)
And then the drop happened and we just said the rest of the words to it 😂 when we ran out of sweet bro and hella Jeff references to scream, we just started singing Yorktown from Hamilton. That was probably my best birthday ever 😂 (btw, I'm eleven now!! Yaaayyy!!)

Still miss the Jet Star. To me that was a really fun ride. Maybe because of nostalgia, I don't know. I was able to relive those high school memories recently when I rode a Jet Star at Lagoon in SLC. The view was different, but the experience was the same.

Got on this ride for the first time a couple days ago. At first i was kinda scared since the only other roller coaster I had been on was Space Mountain at Disneyland. 😅 The feeling is so different and the drop was something else. The drop made me feel like I was gonna fall off but later in the ride it was quite fun. I personally hate that drop feeling, but I think if someone was used to it they would definitely like this ride!

I think Santa Cruz has the piers here in So Cal beat by a mile. The coaster at Santa Monica pier sucks and none of the other ones down here have any rides, with the exception of Redondo Beach which has a tilt a whirl.

This ride is fun but swinging around with all the poles everywhere always makes me feel like I'm going to be decapitated, lol. Advice for people wanting to go on this, make sure you don't go in the midst of summer break. The line will be an hour-long for a single ride and it's not worth it. It's better to go when it's a bit chilly and actually get the money worth out of your ticket.
