Cheap ‘VELLUM’ Paper Experiment for Colored Pencil Drawing (FCCCP, Brutfuner, Prismacolor)

- @BMDPortraits shares a drawing experiment on using clear textured gesso on cheap vellum paper to give it a textured surface that may be more suitable to colored pencil drawings. We all know that cheap vellum papers have no tooth or textures and are too smooth to capture the pigments of colored pencils. Therefore this technique might help make better textured surface or papers to be used by colored pencil artists and beginners who do not afford artist quality textured vellum papers that can cost a fortune. The paper that I use here is the Elite Vellum paper or board 180 gsm and I will test it using of the most popular colored pencil brands in the Philippines, Faber Castell Classic colored pencil, Brutfuner oily colored pencil and prismacolor premier colored pencil and of course the star of the show the Mont Marte Clear Texture Gesso.

Lagi ako gumagamit ng gesso sa canvas for painting... Never ko inisip na pwede sa vellum.. try ko next time
Ako naman pag naka break Ako sa pag dadrawing Ang pinapanood ko mga tungkol sa ibang Art Mediums especially mga watercolor pencils, minsan mga related din sa Politics ang pinanonood ko since mag eeleksyon.
Acid free po ba yang liquid na yan? Baka kasi affected Ang Lightfastness ng Pencil.

Have you tried using solvents to blend colored pencils (not necessarily on vellum) on all sorts of papers?
i have, my favorite is Gamsol, i use it on oil based, and cheap colored pencils

Meron...yung kay Taylor Swift using pastel pencils nga lang....madami type ng gesso depende sa purpose, ang ginamit ko ay clear texture gesso

Nakaka tulong din poba yung baby oil first e lagay then color pencils? Nakatulog po ba it pra gumanda ung Quality sa drawing?
hindi ko pa na try, pero may gumagawa nga nyan, depende siguro sa pencil

@@BMDPortraits Personnaly I won’t recommand them on vellum paper but with gesso, it might work better! With gesso use it is not the kind of paper it is matter but the thicker paper used for its stability instead! In this video, it is not your brand of paper plus the gesso used it is working, but the fact you using gesso itself and its properties! I am wondering if you have ever try on water color calls Legion extra white, it is appeared whatever the coloured pencils brand even cheapest ones will work well on this surface! I just bought one sheet to try it to check this fact! The ampersand encaustic board is a good surface to work on too! But my favorite surface is pastelmat indeed! TKY for sharing us your expertise!
