YES I really enjoyed the questions and the interview in general. Not another clickbait video trying to be sensational with extreme quotes etc.
i’ve seen so many interviews where they focus on nickelodeon, and while she does touch on how awful dan was, the majority was really about what she went through as a child with her mom. it’s not just about nickelodeon. things were going on in her personal life that we didn’t realize or know about
Thank god. If ppl didnt read the book and went off what the media is focusing you’d think the whole thing is about Dan Schneider and Ariana Grande. And it’s so much more than those few pages. So much . She is amazing.
Holy crap Jeanette is a smart smart woman. Her language is extremely poignant; she gets her points and thoughts across in a very succinct and powerful way. I'm highly impressed with her ability to communicate her experiences and I can imagine how amazing her book must be.

I have a horrible relationship with my mom .. my old sister use to be called horrible names by my mom .. and its SO AMAZING TO NORMALIZE HAVING ADULTS COME TO TERMS WITH THEIR PARENTS BEING ABUSIVE!!!. it's not right and we can't keep acting like the abuse is OK " because she's my mom"... SOME PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER HAVE CHILDREN & AND ARE HORRIBLE PARENTS

I did not know Jennette McCurdy. I am an adult. Didn't watch her show, my child did. I just stumbled into her interview while I was going through news headlines. As soon as saw her book title I knew what it was about, before even I watched her interview. You know how the saying goes: Takes One To Know One... Just like her book title suggests , is exactly how I felt when my mom died and I was an adult. I didn't hate my Mom. I always tried to please her. She was a narc and had mental illness. She thought she was perfect. I felt bad for her and was sad for her too. For me Making any decision was so stressful cuz always had to factor in her approval or disapproval. I was depressed and exhausted all the time. She had a strong grip on me All Through My Life. As long as she was in the picture there was no freedom for me. It took her passing for me finally to be able to establish my life, as an adult, after getting married, becoming a mom, getting divorced. I lived parallel lives, a different life with her and a different life at school/work. I could not keep any friends/relationships. I couldn't stay loyal to my friends. Had commitment issues. I didn't want ppl to find out about my home life. I knew stg was not normal. I had found out that everybody did not live like me. I was shocked when I found out that ppl had nice parents and families were nice to each other. Had no self esteem, no confidence in myself. Childhood was full of trauma and was very scared of her. I got good grades at school but that was bcuz of fear of her and therefore trying to please her. Other wise school was no fun, learning was very difficult for me. I was actually smart but I had attention issues. I had a rly hard time studying. Having no self esteem I made friends with other at risk ppl. (not like drugs but other abusive ppl, bullies and such.) Cuz they didn't question my life. They didn't seek for a real friendship from me. I didn't know my self worth so I was choosing ppl that didn't respect my worth as a person, including the person I married. I didn't do any of this to my daughter. We have a loving relationship. Parents owe it to their children to teach them how to fly and to navigate this journey called life and set them free when we must. We must let them use their wings, don't wait till they grow up and leave the house. Start when they are very young, let them have their wings as soon as they understand their surroundings, help them to develop self determination. Thank you Ladies for sharing this interview.

I hope you have friends and family members that can morally support you. I was hiding it and was faking it as if l was living a normal life. That was a big mistake and trying to deal with this alone was complicating my life even more. Not everyone is understanding, even your own family members can be clueless of your pain. All you need is just a couple of good ppl that can be there for you and not judge you. That can make a big difference. I wish I had opened up to somebody instead of doing this all alone. Good Luck to you. Wishing you a stress free life. ❤️

My God you guys were so amazing and respectful it's so refreshing because most "journalists" in media like CNN, GMA are often pretty rude and condescending. Love yall and Jennette and yes her book had sold out on every Barnes and Noble location in my area

And she reads it so well! Her impersonation of Miranda was spot on and did amazing at portraying her mother. I felt like her reading it made me understand more
She comes across incredibly smart, articulate and well adjusted despite everything that's happened.
At 5:50 I started tearing up and crying a little bc I’m one of those people who relates so much to the book. I read it in one day as well and even though it’s not my mom who is my abuser, it’s someone in my family who I adore and love more than anything but have still thought in my head “at least when they die, I’ll be free. I can’t leave them but when they die I will be free.” And it’s heartbreaking to even think that but it’s true for a lot of people. Thank you to Jennette for sharing this story. It’s so beautifully written as well. Thanks for having her on the pod. To anyone else reading, Please read the book if you haven’t!

Jennette is awesome! So amazing that's she decided to tell about her story and find an inner peace through such a dark past. A week before hearing of her book, my mother and I had a blowup her not accepting my coming of age wanting to keep me in this bubble all in all her book got me to confront the issues and speaking more openly with my mother has improved a lot. Her mentioning that it's connecting people back to humanity through talking and bringing back an honesty in conversations is what the world has been lacking recently in these times.
You gained a new sub, you guys are so kind and respectful and witty. Love how you dealt with these sensitive topics and how you treated Jeanette.
excellent interview. answered/ patched up a few questions i had. if you havent read the book yet, consider getting the audiobook! Jennette reads the book herself and gives it emotion in parts that are emotional etc. 5/5 interview and im now subscribed:)

Absolutely, her mother was a monster. Not to mention being forced into the Mormon church.
@@CantoErgoSum I was “forced” into the mormon church. Really nice people but around 12-13 years old I could see the holes in the church’s beliefs. Overall never had a bad experience and met a ton of nice, welcoming and charitable humans.

@@CantoErgoSum i was never abused. Always treated well and respectful. Just couldn’t do it anymore. No need to demonize people we dont agree with.

As an old i'd never heard of Jeannette and first saw her on Mayim Bialiks podcast over 6 mths ago pre book release. To say I was blown away is an understatement, her emotional intelligence, self awareness, empathy and ease about talking about her trauma blew me away. Still never seen more than a clip of her actual work but am now a lifelong fan and supporter, I wish her only the best she deserves it
Man I miss seeing Jennette, but I'm so glad she's doing well! Hope to get more books from her sometime! Thank you guys for the interview and thank you for doing the interview, Jennette!
I highly recommend the audiobook that Jennette reads like they said at the end of the video. It’s incredible to hear her tell her story through this beautiful writing style.

I think it’s weird how no one ever asks about her dad, the other adult in this situation. I just think if my partner had serious mental health issues and would abuse my kids I couldn’t just sit there 20 years later saying “oh well, she was sick” without taking any accountability. Cudos for jennette! Amazing book amazing women
The father she grew up with was not her biological father. Janettes mom had an affair and the dad knew none of them were his
@@fangirl1234fangirl and…? If you see your wife is showering the siblings together when the boy is 15 - heck I’m not the dad but I sure as hell would’ve said sth and taken care of the kids.
The way Jennette describes him, it was clear that he just could not handle confrontation. Perhaps didn’t want to deal with the repercussions of a messy divorce, maybe he didn’t have the inner strength to abandon the family, who knows. But Jennette has mentioned that she let her relationship with the man she thought was her father slide because it was clear there was never any real emotional connection between them.
Sometimes parents can't handle toxic situations 'the turning the blind eye' for numerous reasons better yet most adults lack emotional maturity and confidence to know what to do in those situations, maybe he simply just didn't care. Not making excuses because him being a bystander is just as bad as her Mother. he probably lacked empathy as well. It's a very weird situation but happens more than you think
From what I gather, if he had gotten combative, it would've just turned violent, which would've made it a lot worse. The mother was clearly unstable.
Parents can be so unbelievably toxic. And when a parent or the house is not in balance, a lot of childhood trauma happens and I didn't realize this until about a year ago through therapy. How messed up and very emotionally abandoned I was hurt me so badly and it makes sense now for me to understand why I made the choices I did growing into an adult. So toxic. I do have 5 diagnosis. And I'm still very much hurt.
Yeah. What sucks is that, as a child, we have the instincts of idolizing our parents not fully realizing their actions are toxic. All kids want at the end of the day is to please their parents and to get love and affection. It’s not until adulthood that we fully realize it.

Jennette your book helped me w/ so much from my experiences growing up & in adolescence w/ my mother: I thought what I went through was ok/normal. People don’t talk about all of these invasive experiences bc of fear of others not understanding or being appalled at the terrible things you say you’ve been through. I see you! I understand! Healing is possible.

Been following Jennette’s journey since discovering her CZcams, and all the interviews she has done before and since the book was released.
Inspiring, my parents were somewhat degrees better in some ways. And in my situation, I am finally near to moving out, took me way longer to get to therapy and took a long journey to get financially closer to saving so I can stay moved out.
Looking forward to my healing, freedom and finally the life I choose. Not influenced in a negative way by anybody else, except only, in relation to always will be a🐱cat🐾lady for life😁❣️
And personally my faith, Christ centred, biblically sound and in context.

I have been such a huge fan of Jennette since she first appeared on iCarly, and am so proud of how she has come out of the other side of all she has been through. She is very strong and most definitely intelligent. Whatever she does next, there is no doubt she will be great at it.
I’m really not a reader so I got the audiobook. My god, she’s a FANTASTIC narrator. It really hits hard to hear her tell you the story herself. I highly recommend it
mad respect to every woman in this video. the interviewers asked extremely thoughtful, respectful, empathetic questions and jennette answered with the exact same energy

I got the audiobook and I listened to it I'm 2 days.
I really like Jeannette but her recent Instagram posts she looks thinner than she ever was before. I just hope she is still doing well in recovery. She seems to say she is but it is worrisome how much weight she’s lost. I love her podcasts and respect her so much.
I agree.. I hate to say it but it worries me too. She’s amazing; I don’t wanna shun her bc she’s been so open with us all when she doesn’t have to be. But gahh she’s so thin, I just hope she’s healthy and happy!
It’s definitely hard to know someone’s health by looking at their body & their weight. I try to focus on how they seem to be doing instead, like how they speak and I definitely think Jeanette is radiating some beautiful energy. She’s telling a story that’s not easy but it’s a beautiful thing to do for the world and I think for herself too. She seems amazing, authentic, healthy, wise and strong to me and I can see it when she smiles! I think she is making the world proud, especially the ppl who can relate to her voice and experiences. I know it’s easy to comment about weight especially when EDs are being discussed, but it really can be misleading and sometimes harmful. I definitely know y’all’s comments were coming from a place of care, love, and worry, but I just thought I would share some of the things I have learned💕💕

I hope more nickelodeon stars come forward about the bs that went on no one deserves to go thru wat Jennette went thru I grew up with her I enjoyed it her she is so talented I always wished they did another season for between tho I enjoyed her in icarly but she definitely does very good in more serious roles if she was to go back to acting

My mom narc- never bonded with me- never respected her. I like her now cause she’s trying where my dad is like shutting down. She’s still a narc but she’s less defensive than he is :((
@@DevHazy im 19 and my mum abused me and my dad. i believe she has bpd and gave it to me aswell, i always knew i didnt like her but having the life experience to reflect hurts. thinking about what i thought was normal and what i thought was bad being so much worse was world shattering. i hope you find peace

I read the audio one. It’s good and she explains herself so well and it really makes me sad for all she went through. This is coming from someone who was never a fan of her Nick shows fyi.

First time I see content from them but it was really funny to notice that some of the commentary is exactly the same as another creator who does book reviews. The hole thing about the style of writing was almost to the dot. 🤔

I really enjoyed watching this video, I haven’t seen any of their other videos but it seems like the interviewer in the white shirt on the left is significantly more articulate and thinks deeper about her questions then the girl on the right. It doesn’t seem like the girl on the right even read the book and the only time that she did talk she would just associate Jeanette with her being young and remembering what it was like to watch her. Her comments were not very articulate or as in depth as the lady on the left (“it was like wow” “it was like boom” “you know?” like she’s figuring out the question she’s asking as she’s speaking.) I definitely preferred the white shirt girls questions and style of interviewing much more, the white shirt girl is THE reason the interview was so good. Nonetheless I really liked this interview and hearing Jeanettes heart

I understand she had issues as a child. She has been talking about them and her book about it for like 2 years now. I’m starting to believe however she is trying to make a career about her past, rather than moving on to a new thing.
Get the Audible! Like she said, memoirs are so much better being read by the author. It adds to the story in a personal way. Jennette does not over inflect her voice either, which does make the humor a bit more deadpan. You have to be able to detect the bits of sarcasm. I find Audibles with over exaggerated inflections to be cartoonish and annoying af, so I enjoyed her natural way of speaking. (Ps Brian Cranston is another great memoir!)
