I enjoy this game. Relatively easy to learn. However it did take some practice to get used to the two Jack highest trumps. I would automatically throw a King in there, being so used to traditional rankings, thinking I'd beat the Jack only to have the Jack take the trick.

The only way you wouldn't throw away a suit when picking up would be to keep an Ace. If that had been the Ace of hearts, I could see keeping it, otherwise void the suit. You may be able to throw off the low suited third card quickly if your partner takes the first trick, or you might be able to take the first trick with the Ace rather than having to use a trump card.

RonnyDonny13 I don't throw away an Ace to void a suit. singleton Aces are likely to take a trick.

RonnyDonny13 in the scenario where the partner has both bowers and he takes the first trick, you would have to have horrible luck to not get a point. The trump ace would have to be played on the same trick as the second bower, not only that, but the offsuit ace would have to be trumped as well. Not to mention that no other offsuit could make it through.

What my partners do that drive me nuts is when they lead Trump and see that I have trump and our opponents don't and they continue to lead trump. Then once all the trump is out they have low crappy offsuit cards. It happened today, my partner led the right bower on the second trick and I was the only person who threw a trump. He then leads the left, then the Ace. I had three trump that he sucked out. The last trick he throws the non-trump Queen of clubs and of course our opponents have the Ace. Had he led that queen earlier I would have trumped it and we would get two points. He should have called it alone anyways.
The other thing that gets me is when my partner leads the same offsuit on the first two tricks. It's not getting through the second time around. Every time I trump it I get over trumped. If I let it pass, I could have taken it.

@RonnyDonny13 Whenever you throw a card off on the first trick you are communicating with your partner to lead that suit back. If you happen to be two suited you could lose a trick, but if you called Trump and your partner took the first trick, you should be able to get your point anyways. Count on your partner for one trick, you can't expect them to know the cards in your hand.
Your partner can not assume that you will be two suited because you picked up a card as the dealer either. Many times you can only go down to being three suited.

Opponent going alone, I have no trump, a lone ace of hearts, double spade, double club....what do I lead?

Always save your lone ace. Lead one of your doubles, in case your partner has two aces and won't know which one to keep at the end.

If you only have one ace, do not play it, hold onto it until that suit is led or the last trick. If you have two offsuit aces play one of them then hold the other.

T think the objective here is to keep yourself double-suited only when you don’t have an out Ace.

The idea you should always lead trump is BS if I bid with the high J an Ace and a small card My p leads a trump I'm screwed if I play the J I just made the other J high play the A the next person could take it with the J. My p should lead an off suit A if they have 1 a small card to void if they don't. Anyone can win a hand when you have 2 J and an A. I love it when my opponents lead my trump to me if they take the 1st trick I'm free to run. Play your cards not some formula!

@ max Payne, sorry max, but yes, I believe you should ALWAYS lead trump if your lead is fist and your partner called. Matter of fact, he’s DEPENDING exactly on that and this lead will tell you both more about everyone’s hands and you will maintain either the lead or pass the lead to your partner.
