  • I made this because as a child I spent hours staring at disk defragmenter day dreaming, and I find the sound soothing.
    System specification:
    1997 Compaq 1620 P166 laptop 20GB HDD, 80 MB RAM, 2mb Gfx, ESS-audiodrive, 6X CD-RROM.
    Approximately half an hour of an ancient Compaq laptop running Disk defrag on a 20GB mechanical drive.
    Recorded with a combination of VGA capture & external microphone for extra HDD sound crunchiness.

      No, Defragmentation was needed because the arm in old drives needed to move if the data was scattered around. SSD's just give the data instantly regardless of layout. In fact, if you do successfully defragment an SSD all you will have achieved is reducing it's lifespan slightly.
