- So, you wanna get into My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but it's a pretty big franchise. Spanning nine seasons, a bunch of comics, chapter books, spin-offs, comic books and chapter books for those spin-offs. It really makes you wonder, how much would it actually cost you to consume the entire franchise?

- First of all, sorry I took forever to upload, it’s just that this video was very time consuming to edit in particular because I just kept trying to implement new techniques more and more.

I got into the MLP Fandom, and I didn't even pay a cent.
I watched all episodes across 3 different Platforms over the internet, and I don't regret it.
It just kinda makes me angry to see, that these bigger shows with multiple seasons are just almost impossible to watch completely these days.

All of the episodes of MLP are available on this channel called "The Cartoon Archive." Since each video has like 90-100 something likes and not that many views, none of them got copyright striked yet :)
What also bothers me is that it's often difficult to watch them "in perpetuity", even if you buy the amazon-prime copy etc... that's no longer a guarentee they'll keep it up forever.

I always found it annoying how there's no proper way of watching all 9 Seasons of MLP Friendship is Magic on physical video or on streaming. Seasons 1-7 were released on DVD in Complete Season volumes, but not the last two. I've heard some talk that Seasons 8 and 9 were released on DVD in Malaysia, but those sound more like bootlegs. And Streaming services do a terrible job, at least in the US. Netflix had Seasons 1-8, but no 9. Later they removed some seasons so now they only have the first 4 seasons of the show. Hulu only has Season 9 for some unknown reason, and Amazon Prime Video is the only streaming service to have all 9 seasons.... but u gotta pay extra per season. I just wish the last two seasons would get proper physical releases, or at least make an official Complete Series Blu-ray set.
The Malaysian complete sets are definitely bootlegs. At least, bootleg quality.
I actually know a website which is free that I use to watch all 9 seasons, plus you get the bonus of having the French dub in there. I would be happy to give to anyone the name of the website, if they are interested that is.

I watched every episode on dailymotion, youtube, and some weird plattform who's name I forgot. I think it was smoething with "pony", but I'm not sure.
I hope Shout Factory would consider to put the complete season 9 as a final season on DVD and Blu-Ray, and more soundtrack to the series which contains songs from the last few seasons as well as the final season which is going to be release on vinyl, CD and digital soon.
This is exactly why I dislike streaming services, because Netflix for no reason at all removes the other seasons and it’s only up to season 4. and there’s no way to get a legit physical copy.
I’m happy that the seasons are on CZcams, and iTunes, but after hearing what Cartoon Network did to most of their shows (like hiding infinity train from existence) I’m scared that’s what Hasbro TRIED to do as well.
It’s scary, We legit cannot trust streaming services because one day it could all be gone.

Most of the removals were decisions of Warner Bros. Discovery, not CN. in fact, CN didn’t want to remove the shows, but WBD have to frick it all up.

Stealing $500 or more is a felony in all states. Certain cases of homicide are not a felony in all states. Stealing enough money to buy all this stuff can leave you with a worse legal sentence than slaughtering a human being.

And stil... Hasbro refueses to launch the final seasons of FiM in physical media, and Friendship Is Forever in almost all territories!!

Note: You forgot the Rainbow Road special, As well as the official mangas. There are also the official shorts on YT (I believe there are 9 of them) And the Best Gift Ever special, which is not counted in any of the seasons. And arguably you could add Pony Life to this as well.
Otherwise this was an interesting video, a fun follow up would be how much time would it take to actually go through all of this material. How many hours of my short life would I have to dedicate to My Little Pony?
It is unfortunate that there isn't a complete series set for MLP:FIM, I feel that's a gold mine Hasbro is just refusing to go into for some reason.
Edit: I completely forgot about the Daring Do chapter books! There are 3 of them I believe, as well as the Elements of Harmony books. There are 2 of them, as well as the Journal of The Two Sisters book.
Yesss I love Rainbow Road!!! Best Gift Ever is great too and I watch it every Chirstmas. Haven't seen Pony Life though

You can either watch these on YT or find a site which hosts all of the episodes (the one I used to use sadly shut down in 2020, though I'm sure there are many surviving ones like it). If you speak any language other than English, you can also try searching in said language, because I know that there are quit a few streaming sites in languages such as Russian. If not, you'll still find one for sure, you'll just need to search hard enough. Trust me, it's definitely possible to watch all of the seasons and its episodes without paying a single cent.

Season 9 Is STILL not on DVD yet.
I have literally every Season on DVD, but Season 9 has still yet on DVD.
As for Equestria Girls, the specials WERE available on DVD. It wasn't as easy to find, but they were released on DVD and I have them all.
Also have the movie and Rainbow Roadtrip on DVD too.
Season 9 is the only thing I'm missing to complete my G4 collection

It was cute to end the video with the point of no return I really like this one. rewatched it for several times.
Point of note, in the season 10 comics, it's revealed that the comics themselves exist in universe as a project that Spike wrote. So in MLP FiM, reading the comics is reading what Spike wrote before the events happened in the series, so he didn't know how it would actually turn out, there by solving the problem with the continuity issues.

My family says it's ok for us to pirate things because it's not THAT big of a deal, we're kinda poor and why would we stress about hundreds of dollars just to watch cartoons??

I read every single comic when I went to jail for some bs that I got setup for (went to get my 'friend' from this border town because he begged me for a ride, but he unexpectedly started screaming to me to stop the car and had these illegal immigrants jump into my car, I got scared and like 3 minutes later I got pulled over), anyways over the course of 2 years I had every single comic of MLP shipped in. All caught up lol
Moral of the story, there are several channels on YT that have uploaded every single episode in HD in parts for your viewing pleasure, all for free :)

Sometimes you're able to find those chapter books at dollar stores. I found the discord one and the bonbon one for a dollar each.
We spent about 3K going to BronyCon 2019. Plenty spent a lot more than that. Worth every penny.

I have the 2 main books from the shows early seasons, (The Elements of Harmony, and The Journal of the Two Sisters) as well as a set of 3 Darring Do books that were not in your list. The first 2 are about half 'What was in that book' and about half behind the characters extras. and the Darring Do stories are side stories. Dont remember how much they cost but they are also probably hard to find these days.
I wonder how much more is out there that never got well known and will be lost to time outside the very few fans who actually own one.

Nowdays mlp full episodes in one shot can be found on YT. There's also this other channel that posts mlp episodes season wise, but in clips. Even EG and FIM movies and specials are uploaded in the same manner.

I got the 4 EG movies for 17 bucks on sale. So less than 5 a piece. The IDW comics are mostly available in omnibuses, along with volumes. The volumes contain anywhere between 3-6 issues and the omnibuses contain 3 volumes. They were about 15-20 for the volumes or 24-30, I wanna say it was for the omnibuses. There was 19 volumes, last I checked and then they moved on to gen 5. But that series was great and well worth it. Cosmos was amazing
I become a fan of mlp when watching some clips and a few episodes on tv wich surprisingly got be interested and invested on some specific characters, wich got me more into the main story and got into the other contents in YT back in the day, and also got to watch almost all episodes

I've considered these things too, as I really dont like pirating. I personally want a physical copy of the show that isnt connected to a DRM service (like Itunes) in it's full quality, but there just _isnt_ any.

I'm glad I watched it free as a kid cause they had put the show on tv :,D I also was going to watch the movie with my best friend but we didn't go and I don't remember why. I also remember watching equestria girls but I don't remember if it was complete episodes or not. I also was A HUGE FAN OF MLP. I have a whole giant collection of mlp mini ponies and glitter ponies. I also had a rainbow dash robot pony that does backflips lol. but it's so sad that to watch my childhood show costs :c
Back then if you wanted to see "stare master" it did "cost" you a Shuttle launch (STS-133 launched 1 day before stare master was released. It was the final launch of Space Shuttle Discovery)
Would like to add that the "Tales of Canterlot High" specials WERE released on DVD, but the title of the physical copy was "Magical Movie Night" for some reason. :P And, technically you can watch the whole F.I.M. series for free on DVD if you're near a library that has the physical copies! I know it's not totally accessible really, heh, but I personally used to exclusively watch the show and Equestria Girls movies/specials (Mine has most of the season DVDs and a few EQG films :,)) through library DVDs so it can be a potential option for some :D

Where I am in Australia, the streaming platform Stan has all 9 seasons, EG movies and specials
And to top it all, I have all of the episodes from all 9 seasons, and I am recording onto a Betamax tape. I recorded the first 12 episodes on my Scotch L-750 Betamax tape from the 1980’s, and it records 4 1/2 hours in Beta 3 (X3) mode.
I now have my Sony SL-HF450 Super Beta Hi-Fi VCR from 1986 and it still works, and my Sony SL-2000 portable Betamax VCR with TT-2000 tuner and it works fine, and now I can watch “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” on these two Betamax VCR’s.
you can cut costs down exponentially by simply watching the first 4 seasons LEGALLY online and then stopping there
There's this awesome website with a goofy prefix and domain called Heartshine (can't type out the whole thing without getting flagged as spam) that has the entirety of MLP on it. Not just G4, not just Equestria Girls, *the whole damn franchise.* You can download episodes from there as well; thanks to it I have a local backup of the whole series in great quality without having to worry about what episodes are streaming where, if at all. Too bad it's around 100 gigs lol

As far as I know, the entirety of Friendship is Magic, all the FiM specials, all the Equestria Girls movies, and all the Equestria Girls shorts and specials are posted on CZcams by The Cartoon Archive. They also have the entirety of the Littlest Pet Shop series from 2012, which, while unrelated, I believe has some overlap with the MLP fandom.
By the way, a book that I'm surprised wasn't accounted for in this video is The Journal of the Two Sisters. Not that important though, since it's just another $9.99.

Funny thing about the comics. ... I'm trying to collect all the variant covers >.>; I've been going since Issue 1, and sadly, being Canadian and being unable to attend USA conventions. My collection is going to be very incomplete unless I get /very/ lucky. One of the more recent issues was classified as an RI-B (retailer incentive B cover), and I found it on Ebay for 125 USD. So, yeah... not going to get that one anytime soon.

When I actually committed to watching the series with my sister, back then (around 2016-17) I got Season one through EIGHT on Netflix. They didn't have S9 which is probably my favorite but that's a lot. Also, I found all the movies there as well excluding the 2017 one which I didn't even watch :|

I actually checked, and i found every movie and the main series and spinoffs on stan! They didnt have the tales of canterlot but it had all the Equestria girls movie including the main 4 and a buch of 45 min ones aswell! And a gen 3 movie called mlp: a very minty Christmas!

I was a little late to the fandom in 2012, after seeing screw attack defeat the Deceptacon, starscream. I was baffled and then discovered all the fan videos and had no clue why dudes were gobbling this stuff up. People said to try it, so I watched the first episode part 1. The intro scene almost made me quit, but Apple Bloom's first line tugged my heartstrings. I joined the heard after that.....
Then Story of the Blanks forever solidified my love of the fandom.
Yeah, there's a disorganized way of seeing the show I would buy it all on dvds if I could.

In Finland you'd have to pay 3 different streaming services to see all the episodes, but then none of the Equestria Girls are in there anymore, none of the comics are translated and I think most of the books aren't translated into books but into audiobooks? Anyways, it does cost you to see some of the content, but in English it wont cost you a cent.
Next you should calculate the total cost for all the official toys, plushies, drink bottles with toys (Good2Grow), etc...
I know you need to support a show for it to continue, and as we didn't have the channel it was on past the Hub, I reasoned my pirating with: I'm already giving you money. I literally collect the toys. You will be good. Also other misc. Mlp merch.
The only mlp thing I actually payed for was the 2017 movie. Still worth it 👌

I have DVD versions of seasons 1-7 and the Equestria Girls movies, including the dance magic, movie magic, and mirror magic. Have the 2017 movie too.
I get very upset at the mismanagement of mlp and how its split up weirdly. netflix has like 4 seasons, hulu only has season 9, and amazon you have to pay for, another one of my favorite shows is running into the same issue, its so hard to come across a doctor who episode unless you pay fot it on amazon, unless the reboot where you go to hbo.
If season 9 leaves Hulu, they might move the final season to Netflix since “MLP: Make Your Mark” (G5) became a success.
So uh... Yayponies is a thing. Just... Use caution.
But if you're like me and you want to support the official release, all nine seasons are on Netflix and on Google TV. Just set up a little savings thing in your banking app of choice and save to the end cost. I use rocket money.
