    This is lacking crucial info about the hardware used and we're assuming that the same hardware was used for both platforms (even this simple fact isn't stated).
    With "Steam Deck" in the title, you'd have hoped that the environment was setup as close to a Steam Deck as possible (16GB RAM, AMD APU, 1280x800 resolution, adjusted clocks to try to match the Deck's CPU/GPU performance). I think until you reveal your testing conditions, you really shouldn't have "Steam Deck" in this video's title.

      Nope. It’s been tried and tested directly on the steam deck with essentially the same results. Look it up

    Intresting, would love to know your source, I mean if it was taken on actual steam deck or a similar hardware. Cuz steam deck will come with more optimizations even if the specs are same

    The problem is that steam deck hardware currently doesn't have reliable win driver so these benchmark kinda seem sus

    Years ago with steamos beta, V1 and V2 , Windows would always win with FPS. Now its evenly matched with steamos 3 and sometimes steamos 3 is even faster. That's a big win for valve , IT makes the steamos worth using compared / vs Windows

  • @me2olive
    @me2olive Před 2 lety +1

    Given that the Steam Deck doesn't even have a Windows graphics driver release yet (and there's no guarantee it will ever get one) this could be wildly inaccurate.

    They all seam close with on average SteamOS maybe a few fps behind. I was wondering if directx11 vs directx12 made a different because Zero Dawn was the weakest performer on the SteamOS and because it was a Sony port it might only ran in directx11. Something maybe add next time.

      In contrast to open standards like OpenGL and Vulkan, DirectX is made by Microsoft and not natively support by Linux. To run DirectX games on Linux you need to use a piece of software called DXVK, that translates the api calls to Vulkan which comes at a cost to performance. DX11 has been out for a while now and the DXVK devs have spent a lot of time minimizing that performance cost. Support for DX12 was only added relatively recently and isn’t as optimized which explains the large gap in performance.

  • @joaopauloalbq
    @joaopauloalbq Před 2 lety +1

    For better performance, developers should use the Vulkan API. Furthermore, they should create a native version for Linux.

    These results are so weird… different games being higher on one or the other. I’m mainly considering windows on the steam deck for warzone and Minecraft.

    For a person who has been using linux for couple years this is not that surprising. Some games work better and others worse but overall it's about the same.

      all that matters now at this point is if the game you want to play is compatible with the vanilla steam deck

      @@meareAaron I'm actually more interested to see performance numbers, but I won't trust this video anyway...
      I plan to use both steam OS and windows.
      I wish was that Valve also had an official custom window installation that would already bring updated drivers, custom valve themes, official steam deck software and minimum space needed with unneeded wind10 services removed.
      Everyone can surely edit windows installation or download a community custom one but it won't ever have any value compared to actually getting an official and updated version from Valve it self.
      Ps: I wish... 🙄

      @@accountid9681 I sure know that, however I'm just asking for a official wind10 custom installation without a key and would not come with steam deck but rather just offering that download from steam deck page.
