  • Laminate flooring and vinyl flooring are popular flooring choices and It’s easy to see why - it looks like stone, hardwood and tile but doesn’t scratch and wears really well. It can also be a little tricky to clean.
In this video I will show you a simple DIY FLOOR CLEANING SPRAY.
To make about 16 ounces or enough to fit in a spray bottle, follow this recipe:
    5 ounces WHITE VINEGAR
    5 ounces RUBBING ALCOHOL
5 ounces water (use distilled or filtered water for best results and no streaks)
This is optional, but you can also use 3-5 drops ESSENTIAL OILS (lemon, lavender, orange or peppermint is a great combination for this recipe)
    And a GLASS SPRAY BOTTLE
Combine the ingredients and pour into a spray bottle or spray mop and use weekly or more if necessary.
The combination of vinegar and rubbing alcohol make an excellent streak-free cleaner and sanitizer. Plus, these ingredients are significantly cheaper than a commercial laminate floor cleaner.
The vinegar cleans and the rubbing alcohol aids in the drying and adds a sanitizing component. The combination is great for getting those floors perfectly clean. Laminate and water are not a good combination, so you’ll want to use this as a spray format in a bottle or in a refillable mop instead of a mop and bucket. Always make sure that you aren’t leaving any standing water on your floors as you’re washing them.
You’ll want to use a glass spray bottle to store your cleaner since essential oils can degrade in plastic. Consider a dark color like blue or amber, which will keep your floor cleaner stable.
If you won’t be using your entire floor cleaner mixture at once, you’ll want to use distilled water to keep your cleaner stable. If you don’t want to buy distilled water, you can also boil tap water.
If you have hardwood floors then don’t use this recipe, as the high ratios of rubbing alcohol and vinegar aren’t compatible with your floors.

It is a lot of bending with a spray bottle and would probably have to refill several times for my house. Can you use a mop bucket with a spin mop? The spin mop is pretty dry once it has spun in the wringer. If you just use one of the stick mops like in the video, how do you rinse it off if it would get too dirty or wet (how to wring it out)?

I use the o cedar microfiber spray mop. You can throw it in the washer when it gets dirty. You can also flip over to mop twice bed washing. It never gets too wet because you just spray once over the area and mop. The alcohol helps it dry quickly and kills germs and odors.

What spray bottles do you guys recommend? I don't want some crappy, cheap thing that's going to become garbage after a few uses. I want something durable.

Yeah, the alcohol dissolves oils, resins, and other types that usually get left behind and smear all over the floor.

    • @muffin2u63
      @muffin2u63 Před 5 měsíci

Alcohol and vinegar should not make your floor slippery. They both dry pretty quickly. Perhaps the essential oil left the floor slippery or you put too much?

You say to use 5 OUNCES of the 3 ingredients. Why not just say equal parts alcohol, water, & vinegar? Or 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 ? How are we supposed to measure OUNCES?? Do you actually weigh the ingredients & if so, how?

@@toddjewett2404 I've only had nested plastic measuring cups for decades with only lines for 1/4. 1/3, etc. cup, etc. on the 1-cup scoop, and I totally forgot that a 1- or 2- cup glass or plastic measuring cup has ounces marked on it! I just looked at a plastic measuring cup I bought a little over a year ago (to measure liquids to make cleaning solutions!) and it has metric measurements on it, too!
