Thank you very much Sir... love from Pakistan
You are welcome and hello in Pakistan! 🇵🇰👍
@@MikeMurphyCo The way you explained is out standing... Easy to understand.. are you a teacher?
@@zeryabaliyehya3123 I really appreciate the kind feedback. I do not teach professionally in a school classroom, but I am an online educator/teacher. 🙏
can we do this in pngs , ai or psd files other than text?
it has to be a vector so AE can create a shape layer out of it, but yes i'm using a vector image from AI
i have a question please do i need to have cinema 4d software installed on my pc so that it works ?? coz when i follow the steps i get this error of render failed
Cinema 4D must be installed. When you install After Effects, Cinema 4D is usually automatically installed, but if you uninstalled C4D, you can just uninstall After Effects and re-install and C4D will be included in the install. 👍
Excellent. Wondering if you've found a way to extrude images with masks around them?
I’m not 100% sure what you are trying to do, but you might try PreComposing the layer first and then try adding extrusion if you are running into issues. 👍
@@MikeMurphyCo I'm trying to extrude an image layer rather than a shape layer, but I think extrusion only works with shape paths, and you can't get a shape path onto an image even if precomping. However image layers can do the curve thing, so perhaps a new version will soon allow extrude, which seems rather obvious for them to do.
@@jonahoskow7476 Ah got it! Yeah, the 3D Extrusion will not work at this time with image layers. 🍀
can it be applied on illustrator files too? because I only see the options curvature and segments, even tho, it is on cinema 4D :/
Try Precomposing your Illustrator Comp first. Let me know if you run into any issues. 🍀
@@MikeMurphyCo thank you so much for your prompt reply! :) I actually just did, but it still gives me the same options...
@@SS-qg9jk Try right-clicking on a layer and Create….Create Shapes from Vector Layers and then check to see if available for you.
@@MikeMurphyCo it worked now!!! thank you so much!!!
@@SS-qg9jk Awesome….so glad it helped you! 👍
where is extrusion setting in the newest version of after effects!!!!! I only see the other 2 options Curvature and segments!!!
Make the layer 3D and then change the Renderer to Cinema 4D. 👍

@@MikeMurphyCo I have it 3D and on cinema 4D and still nothing is happening. However I am using a PNG so maybe that is why I am not getting the option???
@@KnightOfDark Ah yes, the 3D extrusion works on Shape/Vector Layers, but there are many techniques to get a 'faux 3D' look on transparent graphics/logos, etc.

when I turn to 4d the preview is hide how to fix this sir?
Can you please provde more details about the issue you are experiencing as I do not understand your question...thanks!
@@MikeMurphyCoThank you so much sir,the problemis ( geometry option disabled cinema 3d,4d...And when I do cinema 4d The item I make 4d for it It disappears and the screen(display) becomes black
@@sara-vj9xu Try this:
1. Go to Toolbar below Comp Window
2. Tooltip over cursor should be ‘3D View Popup’
3. Click drop-down menu
4. Change to ‘Active Camera’
@@MikeMurphyCo Okay Sir, Thank you ♥
In Geometry options i only see Curvature segments
Same! I have no idea where to find it! Maybe it is somewhere else though... Let me know if you find it
Dude same, if you know what is going on please let me know!!!
@@KnightOfDark it may be that you have the 3d settings applied to a precomp and not the root shape layer
Well, looks like they changed the program again.
@@YountFilm Do you have a question or problem that I can help you solve?
@@MikeMurphyCo I was attempting to solve it myself first, but it appears the geometry tab does not have the extrusion option located there anymore. Do you happen to know where it got moved to?
@@YountFilm What type of footage are you using? Did you change to Cinema 4D?
@@MikeMurphyCo The new version of AE now has simple 3d, cinema 4d, and the addition of "advanced 3d". But, the Geometry Settings no longer have an extrude option. Instead it's: curvature, and segments.
I can't actually find what "segments" does either, lol. This is a very recent update.
Thanks for you reply!
@@YountFilm What type of footage layer are you using? Test it out by adding a Shape Layer or Text...set to 3D and then Cinema 4D and you should see the same Extrude Options.
