Fact is when the cops approached Floyd for passing a counterfeit $20, he swallowed his stash. And that was why he acting so that the cops decided to sit on him and one of them with his knee on Floyds neck. Floyd while looking as strong as an ox, had serious cardiovascular problems. My take is the Floyd was living a dangerous lifestyle that eventually caught up with him. Not a hero for sure and likely not even a martyr. A small story that is personal: Grew up in DC in the 80’s when it was labeled as “Murda city” because it boasted THE highest crime rate in the nation for a variety of reasons including Pablo Escobar and smuggling of cocaine and crack i to the country (he operated in my area), the threat of being nuked by the USSR, and the entire local government being defunded. I was around 6 years old and went with a buddy of mine who was 5 to a local school playground across the street where we played football with some kids. Ball ended up flying over the fence so my friend and I went to retrieve it. Couldn’t make it back up from the other side and we were already in an all-black part of the “hood”, but we took a detour through the closest building there and entered the basement only to walk into a fight between two gangs that wielded chains, knives and baseball bats. Hall was narrow but we asked if we could pass by and some tried to move aside. Except then someone drew a gun and started shooting. The echo of gunfire was ear-splitting and I started crying from fear and in the chaos I lost sight of my friend. Somehow, by the grace of God, I managed to get out of there and was lost. I walked for a while uphill and ultimately came across a black officer who was doing crosswalk safety duty. In my daze, I asked “Officer Friendly”, if he could help me find my home. He smiled gently and asked if I knew my address to which I did respond. He laughed softly, put a giant hand on my little shoulder and said “Look there, son. It’s across the street.” He helped me cross the road after and I told him about the gun fight. I never forgot the look of sadness and hopelessness he had, all he could do was say that it’ll be alright and to get some rest. Of course Officers couldn’t respond due to the entire local gov’t being defunded. Still, that black Officer was my hero that day and I’m sure to many others. Probably never received a “Thank you” for hosting service, didn’t receive much pay, nor benefits or medals. That is a Hero. That is the kind of human being - no - the kind of AMERICAN we should glorify. Not Floyd.

I'm not going to call myself an expert, but personally the main thing I would criticize the officers for was not rendering medical aid for a couple of minutes after they could not longer get a response from Floyd or find a pulse. Beyond that, irrespective of what the prosecution witness said, this looked like a textbook overdose.

My heroes will always be the forgotten vets of the Korean war, or the vets that were horribly mistreated when they returned from Vietnam, both of whom were doing as our government commanded, not what they wanted. My heroes will be those who returned from the Gulf wars, badly wounded for life, and those who came back with hidden injuries, that caused them to break down, some to the point of ending their own lives (I had a friend that this happened with, and the hole left behind can't be filled). Of course, all LEO's and first responders fit this as well, due to the fact that they go into harm's way every day, there is no end to the heroes I have that are solid role models for my life.
Patrick Tillman actually died as a result of friendly-fire while trying to get a group of vehicle mounted US soldiers to cease firing on his position & that of his fellow soldiers. He was a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment.

My heroes will always be the forgotten vets of the Korean war, or the vets that were horribly mistreated when they returned from Vietnam, both of whom were doing as our government commanded, not what they wanted. My heroes will be those who returned from the Gulf wars, badly wounded for life, and those who came back with hidden injuries, that caused them to break down, some to the point of ending their own lives (I had a friend that this happened with, and the hole left behind can't be filled). Of course, all LEO's and first responders fit this as well, due to the fact that they go into harm's way every day, there is no end to the heroes I have that are solid role models for my life.
