I would love to win the John Wayne pick up truck but i am 81 years old and have no money to donate i'm struggling living on social security
Robby Bro by a new old wrecked limo for the interior so you can transplant it from the new wrecked to the newly rebuild Laymo!!! I think that would be sick! OR buy a bunch of bucket harness seats and put them in the Laymo to take passengers on a rock climb but safely and in Air conditioning!!!
@@Slick1G3I'm 75 and know exactly what u mean 😮
The dukes trk is absolutely legendary, but I have to ask about the driverside cab corner.. ? Right below the gas filler it definitely stands out a different darker color.. ? Is that from new spilled gas or wasn't prepped right..? I watched it like ten times, and thought maybe the door stuck out to much and was making a shadow.. but the body lines seem right.. so I figured I'd ask as to why that cab corner is darker then any other part on the side of the trk in the same color.. ?
No matter the reason I'd give my left nut for that trk.. you all did such an amazing job.. 👏
I noticed that the steering wheel is not on aligned with the front wheels. He's going straight down the road and the steering wheel is cocked around 15 degrees to the right.@@johndowning5344
I love how you and Hill Billy work together, but yet at the same time you work separate. Also, You guys did a amazing job on the Duke's truck.......however when Heavy D did his video on this said truck and thanked everyone for what they did, he never mentioned you for your paint job. Don't worry, we your loyal viewers we had your back and brought it to everyone's attention. Keep the videos coming.
Yes. That is true... I thought I may have missed that in Heavy "D" video..
I don't watch Heavy D
Hey HillBilly, doing things that come easy anyone can do, going out side your comfort zone day after day takes guts. Anyone can see you are not comfortable in front of of the camera yet you stick with it. Hats off to you. The thing that i like best about this channel is how it looks like friends just hanging out and having fun, no politics, no religion and no BS. All the very best to you all. Been subsribed for two years now and not one bad video.
💯
Hillbilly is doing a great job, he's getting better and better at doing his own segments.
@@Gyppor he is getting there for sure. Nothing good comes easy they say.
Personally I think the Layton crew can do no wrong and I support them 100%. Great videos from a great bunch of folks.
The little guy at the end MADE the whole video. I thought Robby was going to say, "If you want one of these..." , but he was talking about the hat...love the family-oriented approach to these videos. Thanks, guys!
I love how Robby is all like, "Yep, let's order it." Just do it right.
That's *_very_* much how it always should be in this industry. 👍
Don't blink they grow up that fast. Have a great week and count your blessings amen.
That Toyota looked pretty rough but most of that era are and they aren’t exactly plentiful so I’d imagine it would come down to price. As I’m sure you know (but don’t exactly practice😬) The better the vehicle you start with usually pays off in the long run.
Love the longer videos, cool working on two projects at the same time.
Gotta hand it to whomever named Hillbilly…using channel lock pliers for everything on the wrecker…😜😂😂😂👏👏👏
Your current project lineup is awesome. Thanks for the content 👍👍
Once again this was educational and entertaining.
Hey Robby, is this wrecker project getting you ready for Rory and Matt's "sand hill" challenge???
Need sand paddle tires...
@@ronthompson2366no, not at all. Paddles don’t work the way people think. You want to float as much as possible and paddles dig hard. A big wide bald tire would be better than a paddle.
And don't forget Paul he wants to do it to because if you remember they said his name so had to say something and I can't wait to see this shit

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
@@Crewsy what’s funny?
Enjoyable, professional grade video without the usual distractions and nonsense, 2 thumbs up.
I'm glad you got that wrecker. It's going to be a game changer for you. You should probably get that Toyota if it's reasonable, it could save you time.
This has become one of my favorite channels. You’re on your way! Keep up the good work!
Glad to see you and Hillbilly giving that old Ford Wrecker the attention
It needs. I’m not crazy about the Automatic Trans but it can always be
changed out to a 5 speed if needed. I think you will be pleasantly surprised
by its capabilities. I promise you it’s worth the attention you are giving it.
Layton Nation is Awesome.. Keep up the great Family Content..

For off-road they need the auto mate. In extreme crawling the clutch won't last a month.
@@marvindebot3264ask #trailmater how long a clutch lasts... it's about technique.
Yup, and it's been trouble. Trailmater doesn't have a four-link front end and is (normally) used in flatter terrain but still full credit for holding it together when he has done some crawling.
I gather Robby is planning on building this up like MOOR's wrecker for more extreme use. With modern autos clutches are simply not the best choice offroad.
I prefer a manual on road, all day every day but for 4x4 work give me an auto, they make life so much easier. They put power down smoother, you can double foot tem for creeping at very slow speeds with more revs and they are just better at offroading. @@notsevenfeettall
That giveaway truck is beautiful!
Those wasps! You guys make me smile. Love watching your videos. Every one of them!
If you think corrosion on your wires might be an issue, use marine grade wire. It's tinned copper not bare copper. Also use dielectric grease on the wire before you crimp the terminal on. Then use adhesive lined heat shrink tube. It will outlast the vehicle.
Although it is way more expensive, your time fixing problems will more than make up for it
I think the problem with sourcing all of that stuff and the cost really becomes a burden, however it's good advice.
A sponsor of the shows are Solder Sticks. How about using some of those?
I was thinking of trying the Solder Sticks, but based on this video it seems clear they don’t use them unless they sponsor the video.
Done this on all my added wiring on my vehicles. Never had a single problem with corrosion or anything since I put it in 5-6years ago
On the land cruiser I think the deciding factor for me is how much of that rust has to be cut out anyway for the build and making everything work. You know how much work it saves to start with a better body. I try to picture what's needed and not needed because a lot of stuff gets cut up and modified depending upon the level of mods your doing. If that body your looking at still has structural integrity compared to yours, like not just collapsing in on itself it may be worth it. But if you still have to source a bunch of body parts it may be worth looking for a better example unless the price is right to have more parts around. Yours is pretty bad you may want to purchase that one if the price is right and possibly keep looking for an even better one still or hold out for a better one. When I build something I try my best to start with a good body although I have a Datsun that was horribly rusted but has sentimental value and I stuck with its original body.
My dad had a 68 ford but it was red in color loved that truck my dad actually met john Wayne in person he was the nicest man he ever met
I walked from Fort Worth center to the stockyards. Great place (fabulous Stetson shop!). Walking back, a bus driver stopped and asked me where I was going. I said to the hotel, but I was walking because I had no US currency, only a credit card. He told me to get in and gave me a free ride! Southern hospitality FTW.
FORT WORTH IN THE HOUSE!!!! WOOOT WOOT!!!!!
The end made me chuckle with Robby’s boy taking off and putting on his hat. Excellent segway opportunity for selling hats too 😂. Well done!
Nothing like another bad ass wrecker..make it world class
Thanks for making. Two are better than one.
Here in Britainistan us allotmenteers leave wasps alone as they eat insects that ruin our growing foodstuffs. Great video as usual guys, your all such good family and friends.
Britainistan indeed. Mohamed is the most popular name, I hear. Praying for y'all.
Yes all bees, wasps, hornets are pollinators and like you said eat aphids that eat our crops so if they bother him that much just call the right people to relocate the hive but don't kill them
28:17 by the Hillbilly/Utah definition of "anything with yellow and black stripes is a bee"
i see something else that's always yellow hi-vis and nearly black stripes...
Hillbilly's a bee, too! 😂
You probably want to put in a H4 harness in there on the headlights. It's super easy and quick to do and will boost the power to the headlights and make them brighter and eliminate headlight flicker.
And a headlight relay kit, which would reduce or eliminate the Flicker and increase the output of the headlights, and make it safer for the headlight wiring in the dash
@@paulsilva3346 yup those old headlight switches can catch fire.
I used to install relays, 10awg wires, all that jazz too, but times have moved on. They'll swap to LED headlights that draw 1/5th the power and self regulate for voltage drop. Flicker isn't good, but voltage drop will be a non issue.
Robbie, On the land cruiser I think .... The Boss Has Spoken!
Robby is smart getting Rorys advice on wreckers..
My heart rate went up at the sight of the Duke! It`s okay though, I have a pacemaker, so...
WOW great prize and fantastic cause!
felt like I was watching chads fab with all that wiring!! good job
Nice job guys. It's coming along nicely so far.
Hillbilly...you sure have become a real professional....really appreciate you !!
If the truck was new to me I would just change all the fluids so I know where I started from !
I didn’t realize hillbilly was that good at wiring! Nice job brother
You'll never be sad you have a Land Cruiser! You'll definitely never be sad you have an extra one!
AWESOME!
Not sure how many miles on the wrecker but the transfer case oil pump might be worth inspecting. Those CV driveline joints just take a little more time. Save the snorkel tops from your gear lube bottles for everything
❤That was fun 👍😎✊
Awesome job on the new wrecker
Hillbilly's grill looks amazing!
I think an Exoskeleton style cage would look Bada@# on the Laymo! Imagine a painted cage?! Would be sick lookin! Love the work and how awesome you guys are!
I was thinking the same thing 👍🏻
Exoskeleton, 👽🕷️
This past Mint 400 , someone was racing a Lincoln Town Car Limo.. full racing cage ... somthing Robby should consider
@adventurechannel67 Yeah, I saw a video about it. It broke on the course and they had to leave it out there. When they came back it was stripped.
@@jasonstrout4502 😂
This was the awesome video it's showing both the Limo and the Wrecker, Quite a bit done on both of them. Thank you for sharing 👌 😊
The wires going to the grill on the wrecker are for a bumper jumper, and work in two ways. They can be used for starting a car along a busy road from behind the car, or, inversely, for starting the wrecker.
Aaaaahhhhh🤣🤣🤣
In the 60s and 70s for sure we had slave boxes on every rubber tired vehicle. The cables were of course the "Slave" cables.
I was speaking of the U S ARMY
With Robbie's sheetmetal working skills, he could design and build his own custom body for the Jeep.
Thank you!! The only Problem would be not many people would watch that happen!! It would take too much time
When I was a teen,a buddy bought 3 Willy's body kits.Just line the parts up,clamp them,spot weld,maybe 3 hours per shell,and primed.For sale....Ready to bolt onto a frame.Probably be @$8K for a Jeep tub kit now.
@@RobbyLaytonbeing old, I watch Ron Covall make sheetmetal magic. He sands and polishes with the same enthusiasm and determination as you do. 😉
Good catch on the free floating transfer case Hillbilly.
I solder my battery cable ends after I crimp them. I like the idea that corrosion will not wick up into it because it's filled with solder.
The FORD tow truck deserves a nice paint job...!!!!
Hey Robby... it's a lot of fun watching your CZcams "channel" to see the things that you and Hillbilly (and the other guys who work with you) tackle, and it's neat to see your friendships with; Mat & the gang at Matt's Off-Road Recovery, Paul Cox's Fab Rats and Rory on the videos he puts out. My wife and I live in Seattle, but she and I have taken a few automotive "Road Trips" to Utah, plus I've ridden through much of; Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado on a 1998 Road King Classic Harley-Davidson notorcycle, so I understand Hillbilly's excitement about the motorcycle that you and he just recently restored. BTW, you can tell Hillybilly that I road my bike to Milwaukee to attend the 100 year Anniversary Party of H-D!
Keep working and putting out the videos and I'll keep watching!
Also called a cardin joint. Most of the time the small round post that the ball sits on is gone that's why people say it's not worth fixing. I've done to many to count and you can weld in a new post if it's broken or worn off so definitely worth fixing if possible lol 😆
Double-cardin joint, not constant velocity.
good job, one thing you should know with that style cv joint you should mark everything and put back in same clock position. balances better.
Hillbilly please don’t ever leave the layton crew.
You’re my favorite CZcams character! So humble and genuine a true gem!
If you ever do leave please at least make your own Chanel!
Love watching you guys work
Thanks for the update on bee/wasps
Hillbilly, you are getting much better at narrating your work. Good job.
Poor guy can barely talk sometimes 😢
Unbearable to hear and watch. He's an extremely hard worker, which is rare nowadays, but keep him away from the camera.
I came looking for this comment. He is definitely improving. I think he's turned a corner.
@@bigGeo5460 he just recently got veneers, so he has new teeth do you know how hard it is to talk w/ new teeth? it takes time to get used to.
Linc is so handsome and smart, wants to be just like dad.great video guys, always entertaining brother robbie.cant wait for the next one!!! Go. Layton's go!!!
You could make the Idle up electronic instead with a servo and a rheostat. Then have a toggle in the cab that you can disable it if you forget and are already in the cab.
lots of issues on tow truck but this is par for the course - great you are going through it - keep doing updates on it - a ton of work involved
Ya'll are great! I can't wait to see the Lamo complete. Good job with the tow truck Hillbilly.
Great job on both projects! We can't wait to see both in action.
Go get it!
Thanks, guys , Hillbilly you are getting better in front of the camera.
Heck Yeah Robby show fabrats what a real offroad tow truck looks like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Little Mister Layton is a wonderful little boy brings a smile to my heart I wish I had as much talent on Bodywork as Robbie has in his little finger I'd love to have half as much knowledge as hillbilly has in automotive mechanics
GET IT!!!...
Great rebuilding work you two. Keep it up! Need that ol beast of a Tow truck back on the off road rescue trail. 😅
Great way to start a Wednesday
I have rebuilt 4 CV joints first and second time were learning curves, 3 and 4 went smooth as butter.
Thanks Guys
You welded the B-ee pillar😎 You won’t even let them have a rent free pillar
Kuddos to the camera girl, awesome job as always! 📸📍
18:18 wow look how clean he got that thang lol
The ending of the video !❤
Yep, buy the better one! I’m going through the same pain currently and glad I bought a better shape one!
Bees are bees. Wasps are made from hate and fury. That's the difference.
What a man, what a wonderful man no man it's still a small boy, liking your cap maybe means he's aware we are watching it's just that he doesn't know that yet and just thinking it's just the person holding the camera that you are talking to
Really makes me wonder how good those Solder Sticks really are because if they aren't sponsoring the video the guys aren't using them. This would have been a prime example of using them during the bit when Hillbilly was complaining about soldering wires.
It seems he just forgot them.
I use them. So far, so good! I did buy their heat gun too because I was heating them too much and melting the coating.
He was using them before they started sponsoring
@richschroeder3693 I have bought some and used them too. Don't know if they are worth the price difference between other brands because I haven't tried any others yet.
Proud dad moment at the end Robby😂 he wanted to be cool like dad.
Ready to see laymo back together
Off Road Wrecker Games 2024!
Good Job on the wiring HillBilly
Good job fixing the wiring harnesses , transfer case gasket, U Joints Hillbilly. Great welding up the supports Robby. 🤙😎
Great progress you guy's 👏
Robby , Hillbilly & crew great video. Great to see the wrecker get some work done on it along with the Limo , Love your son Robby, give you a hard time with the hat. So many little problem's to over come when the little one come to work. Keep up the great work that you all are doing. David B., Utah. ♥♥♥.
Excellent video.....both projects coming along great....great cam work also
So impressed with you guys, maybe even a bit jealous. Never got the auto body/mechanic gene. I enjoy watching your videos. If you ever have a desire to do a custom paint job, and wheels on a 2021 can am Ryker, you can use mine!!
Remember Lincoln doesn't just want a hat - he wants to wear daddy's HAT!
Thanks for sharing.
New Subscriber here seen what you’ve done for Matt.
Time to see more Cheers Robby and All.
The JW truck is fantastic, well worth winning. The Ford starting to get the love it desperately needs and the Laymo starting to go back together - you guys are keeping busy. That Toyota may be a better option than what you already have, at least it has some metal still in it - these things were really prone to rusting, not many left out there.
Can't wait to see more wrecker videos.
Love the videos it makes me laugh when the Mrs. Deals out the samck down on the projects... love the banter..lol
I agree with the "Boss" Robbie , lf you build it we will love it, !! And you will be glad you did!!!
Hey Robby, and Hillbilly, and Demri. I like what you're doing on these vehicles. Really spending some time on them and showing us the detail work that goes into bringing them back into the real world. I got linked into your world and channel back in the days of the Golden Nugget for Ed. In fact, that was the moment when I started to watch the channels of all the group that banded together to bring the Nugget back into the real world for a real fine man. Now I make the rounds each week to each of the corners.
There were differences in the work you did to the Nugget and the work you're doing to these two vehicles. The Nugget was mostly patching and fixing the rusted panels. The cosmetic work to the Laymo is superficial sheet metal rust work too, but other work is showing the structural work underneath and the patching back together of the structure. When you opened up the Laymo sheet metal for the first time, I was really taken-aback at the amount of rusted metal there was. I knew that that going on in remodeled vehicles, but we all don't spend time deliberately taking old vehicles apart to examine them.
This is the point where I'm saying to myself, "is there something that can be sprayed on to the structure work that has been done to make it more rust protected and then it would not rust from the inside-out". This would be like some kind of treatment that is like that done in the factory to the raw steel panels.
There was a short time where there didn't seem to be much job work like this being done in the shop, except for that vehicle that had a special motor in it, and it was crunched in on the front left corner. I don't remember seeing the finished phase to that repair. Was there a conclusion video to that series? Can you point me to that video?
I don't know where you got Hillbilly, but he is worth every dime you are paying him. He is a working maniac.
Man! You guys are busy! Hillbilly got a lot done on the old wrecker. Those new wires should help too. Nothing says "excitement" like a leaky gas tank!! LOL!! Glad you're getting a new one. The limo's body is coming along pretty well and I'm looking forward to seeing it all done, painted and shinny!! 😁
Great content for all of us today, divide and conquer. Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...
