Eddie Van Halen's(lead guitarist), solo "Eruption" video is unbelievable!!🎸 RIP Eddie💙 He is considered one of the best guitarists of all time. He plays with a lot of "tapping"...y'all need to react to it🎶 Another Van Halen song that is really good is "Running With The Devil". They are one of the biggest bands of ever🎶🎸🎵💙

I am 57 Years old. I graduated High School in 1982. This song was at College Parties and Dances. I am glad I grew up in a Golden Age of Music in the 70's and 80's. Genres really didn't matter. Artists crossed Genres all the time and would perform with other Artists. The main Radio Stations played Country. Rock. Pop R&B etc on One Station. The Oldies Station played the 50's and 60's Music. Their was a Classical Music Station. Their would sometimes be a Soul Station.
Everyone was exposed to all the Music. Genres was mainly used in Record Stores in order to sort the Records. In each Genre was sub genres. For Example Rock would be sub divided into Southern Rock, Country Rock, etc.

This album came out when I hit 10th grade and it was *awesome*. And yeah, sadly, I don't think there will ever be another 80s. It's difficult to even explain to someone how great the 80s were.

I was an 80's kid. This was the kind of music you'd hear people blasting out of their houses into the open air outside. I remember being at the park a lot and houses nearby playing stuff like Shout by Tears for Fears at such a loud level if echoed through the park.

"Jump" became Van Halen's only #1 single (They did have more hits) back in 1984 from the album '1984'... Guitarist Edward Van Halen was more recognized for his guitar playing, but he wanted to play more keyboards in the 80's... He wrote most of Van Halen's music and came up w/ the music for 'Jump' back in 1981 (?) on keyboards, but their singer David Lee Roth hated it and refused to write lyrics or sing it. Finally in 1983, Eddie insisted that the song be on a Van Halen record, so Roth obliged and wrote the lyrics to 'Jump'. With MTV playing the video 24/7, the single went to #1, and the '1984' album sold 10 million copies in the US... MTV also played the music videos for the songs 'Panama' and 'Hot for teacher'.
Unfortunately, the tensions and conflicts between David Lee Roth and the rest of Van Halen reached a breaking point in 1985 after the tour for the record... Roth was out of Van Halen, and after a few considerations, they hired solo singer Sammy Hagar to join Van Halen for the '5150' album in 1986, which went to #1 on the US albums chart. David Lee Roth released his solo album "Eat 'em and smile" in the same year and that record went platinum.
The original Van Halen came together in Pasadena, Cali w/ brothers Edward Van Halen (guitar) and Alex Van Halen (drums) hiring singer David Lee Roth around 1973... Roth said he came up w/ the name Van Halen cos he recognized the talent of Eddie Van Halen on guitar... and Van Halen was a marquee name that Roth felt could entice people to come to their concert to see Eddie play guitar. Roth was not the best live singer, but he helped the band financially w/ rehearsal space and designing their stage shows... Gene Simmons of Kiss saw Van Halen perform at an L.A. club around 1976 and offered to help record a demo for them. However, record labels would not sign Van Halen until 1977... Their debut album in 1978 turned the world of rock music on its head; Eddie Van Halen's phenomenal guitar playing and David Lee Roth's acrobatic stage moves were a huge hit as the record sold 10 million copies... the original Van Halen released 6 studio albums before Roth was out of the band.

Blessed to have been a teenager in the 80’s when music was just pure fun, in my opinion. Love your reactions, keep diving into different genres of music, and long love the 80’s! 🤘🏽🎸

David Lee Roth ( lead singer ) has given various accounts of the meaning behind the lyrics, but he usually says they are about a TV news story he saw where a man was about to kill himself by jumping off a building (Roth thought, "Might as well jump"). He's also said the song is about a stripper.

This is off the album 1984. This was David's last album with Van Halen. He was the FLASHY SHOWMAN type of front man. (plus cocaine did not help) he fancied himself a Tae Kwon Do expert, and was always "kickin" . The next year, he released a song called "IM JUST A GIGOLO" a remake of an old show tune. One of the best album covers ever, (a baby smokin a cigarette) with "1984" on the title.

I graduated high school in 1982. From my perspective, the 80s was the best decade of my life. Life started to suck when grunge music hit the scene and destroyed the good times that were the 80s. It wasn't gradual either. It was like one day everyone was vibing and the next day all of a sudden, the music I liked was crap. Radio stations changed their format with no notice. But I'm glad to see younger people start to appreciate what I loved when I was their age.

I graduated HS in '84. The 80's were far more than just a vibe. We were a carefree and loving life in all ways possible time. Music crossed genres and generally uplifted. There was far less hate, racism and dumbness back then. Everyone from everywhere was invited and accepted at the party!
Unlike today. I feel bad for the younger generation now. They will never understand and feel the "freedom" we "all" had in the 80's.
BTW, this song is about a bystander seeing a person on a roof of a building threatening to commit suicide. Bystander saying, go ahead and might as well jump. 😁

Ya know what I think. I lived and grew up with the music of the 60s 70s 80s 90s and today. And one thing I do know from life experience is that when I grew up we weren't as angry as today. We had fun, loved music from "Bands" and music that "couples" could dance to (both slow and fast). And it was music that we played without getting pissed off at a class of people, a race of people, or the sexual preferences of a person. We didn't go around calling women "Bitches" and racial slurs like "N**ers". I HATE that today. Music today tends to get me depressed (depending on what I listen to). BUTI Love you kidz. Keep up the work. It is just an old guy's opinion and I have loads of experiences you could pick my brain about. You ROCK

The guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, was one of the greatest, most revolutionary and legendary guitarists of all time. You have to imagine that the guitar music that came before him was all the 60s and 70s style rock music, but he developed a completely new style if modern shred guitar that changed rock music as a whole. You can hear a lot of guitarists shredding, playing fast, tapping on the guitar today, but they all owe it to Eddie, cause he was the first. Check out the song Eruption.

In terms of their sound, you can tell it's the '80s because of the keyboard and the more rhythmic drum work. If you listen to their earlier albums the music is much more guitar oriented hard rock with drums to match.

Van Halen was the original everything - sound, clothes, hair. They came out in 1978, the rest of the 80's was everyone else trying to catch up to them.

You think their sound just happened? You think each band member never listened to the radio? They invented the synthesizer [modern synthesizers being born from Moog in 1964]? That; The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Chuck Barry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, and so many more, played NO role in Van Halen's sound? Learn, appreciate and respect history!

Just think about that this song came out 38 years ago but you still know the music from it. That's how great this is and to be a teen growing up when this was released was pretty cool. You knew you were listening to something that would stand the test of time even way back then.

I heard them live in Toronto while I was visiting there. Eddie Van Halen was a genuine prodigy and his guitar and keyboard playing reflected that special talent.

The lead singer "David Lee Roth" did change his outfits a lot for videos. His "Black Belt" in a few martial arts discipline's are highlighted with his "splits" and "high kicks".

    - So This Is Love?
    RIP Eddie 🎸
I saw them LIVE at Madison Square Garden in 1981 - 3rd row, center!
There is a tiny break in Eruption (Eddie's solo - you already reacted) so, I screamed, "I Love you, Eddie!!!" He winked at me! 😉
One of the greatest shows I've been to and I've been to *a lot* of concerts.

You can't look at music videos of this era and have any idea how the regular people dressed. The wilder the group's clothes, the better the show. We didn't dress like it in regular life though. We might wear maybe ONE item with our regular clothing, unless we were at a concert. You're right, the vibe was hot then. We'd just come out of the worst recession since the great depression, and we were pretty psyched for having a good time and figured things were going to be great in the future.

Eddie Van Halen... The lead guitar in Yellow (R.I.P) Is the greatest guitar player ever! He actually has 3 pattons for guitar stuff he made out of stuff people threw out. You honestly should watch a documentary about him. His brother plays in the band also! And definitely check out Eruption & you'll see why he is the GOAT of the guitar!!
