  • Back pain is one of the most common medical reasons that Veterans are awarded disability compensation. The VA assigns disability ratings for back pain based on your range of motion and depending on how restricted that is they may assign a disability rating as low as 10 percent or typically as high as 40 percent. While the rating scale allows for a 100 percent rating for back pain, this award is rarely granted. Any rating below 100 may be increased if your service-connected back pain has caused a secondary condition, that is, a different and separate condition.
