Chris, as the bassist on this track I was absolutely floored by your work on it from hearing just a raw mix- thank you for this insight and the opportunity to peak into your process!!
Great bass!✊🏼🔥
Cool bass❤
@Michael, as the listener of this video, I really like how musical your performance is in that section, every note at the service of the song and the vocalist, and great sound and feel. Nicely done, man. And like you, I always enjoy peeking into Chris' creative process, and I always come out inspired.
Is the song released yet? He never mentioned the artist / title in the video... :(
@@brianpylant4617 Hey Brian thanks for your interest! It will be released later this month. I will update you :)
Hello from Italy Chris ...
You are truly a great communicator.
Thanks for the valuable suggestions.
I m impressed by the whole process and the beautiful song
Thank you! Will be releasing it soon ✌️
Track is out! Aaron Celentano - Sparkmouse. Streaming everywhere. Thanks for listening 😊
Awesome!! The trick on automation was worth so much to me, I didn't know that! Thanks a million!!
the EXACT thing i have been trying to work out! Thanks so much for this!
Fantastic video Chris, quite a lot to take in but really useful tips that I would never have thought of and didn’t know about as well! So thank you so much for opening up a new approach to my music production. Brilliant tuition
Your channel is a major go-to for me. Thank you!
Great video Chris ! Great tip the the sub track mix !
Awesome video, Chris! You always explain your techniques thoroughly. Thank you. ✊🏼✨
I needed this so thanks!

OMFG selecting automation parameter in read mode is LIFESAVING. I was legit thinking about moving to a different DAW after so many years because i found automation to be so irritating by going through lists of folders or using touch mode and having the track play. Thank you, Thank you Thank you!!!
Why Chris Vanderviver Rules!
thx for bring value to the community
Great Video!!!
Chris - Thanks for doing this. I recently upgraded to a Mac Studio M1 Max and went from Logic 9 to Logic X. Now I know how to automate parameters on plug ins and how I can automate the level of effects on my sends. Wow! Opens up a whole world of possibilities. I really like how you show exactly where to find features in LPX, how to use them, and then clearly demonstrate the effect they have.
Logic 9!! Wow🫡
@@Group_Anonymous Same here! May 2021 I upgraded to an M1 with Logic X from a 2014 iMac with Logic 9. It was like moving from a canvas sailed ship to the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
Hi Chris thanks for the info. I wanted to say that in my opinion the vocals in the chorus part are buried by all the instruments and everything that is going on.
Nice to know I’ve been using the marquee tool correctly. 😅
Another great video. Could you explain why you automate the gain plugin on the "master" bus rather than just automate the volume?
I second that
hi, ive been using many simultaneous automation lines on the same track, mostly in sfx design. i noticed that eventualy would rise some gl4itchy errors when it shouldnt. Is there some preference adjustment to get that random Glitches off? I believe that It might be because of blocksize processing, but im working on m1pro, at 64 samples per block.
Are these line automation, MIDI messages? Im sure they handle some kind of interpolation, because theres no 128 steps of resolution. Where can i found information about data in automation lines? Ive been looking in official manuals but couldnt get any answer
nice channel (y)
can you add sin function curve as automation? like in ableton
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One thing I still haven't figured out, is there an easier way to switch between Automation Modes?..or key command I can hit to quickly go into Touch mode on the highlighted track and then switch back to Read mode?
Check Key Commands. There is a default for Read on/Off Toggle. you can assign custom key commands for other states too.
@@osmancolak OMG...thank you for pointing me to Key Commands. Not only did I find the answer, but after doing further googling/youtubing, I found out you can actually assign external Midi controller data to Key Commands as well. Mind blown. Now I was able to assign one of the pads on my midi controller to toggle Touch/Read Mode...game changer. I don't use any of the pads on my controller anyway, so might as well assign them to something useful that I do all the time.
Hi, I've been trying to download your free templates and guides, and to sign up for your email updates, but it's not working for some reason. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I wanted to ask you how can I stop a problem on Logic that lately establishes random automation points for me, for no reason even though I don't use them?
auto select in read mode. I've been doing it wrong for 15 years
There’s something I’ve often considered and has me vexed. I’ve noticed folks often create automation for the volume of a track. Most often on the main vocal to adjust for quiet or loud phrases, and even single words, to even out the vocal and make sure every word can be heard. This makes perfect sense except, what happens if I create this automation and then decide later, I want to adjust the fader for the automated track to increase or decrease the track volume as a whole, won’t the automation prevent making any adjustment as it will snap the fader back to the automation values? If this is correct, is there any way to get logic to allow a fader adjustment and then perform the automation at relative values to the newly adjusted fader? It seems that volume automation is extremely common and I must be not understanding something. I can’t believe all these people are oknlosing the ability to adjust the fader once they add volume automation. I suppose I could go into the automation and adjust the entire automation curve up or down by the desired amount, but that seems clunky. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
I think you need to draw your marquee tool over all of the automation (creating nodes outside of the overall automation) & then you can adjust the tracks level with all the automation reacting relatively - That's how I do it but there maybe other methods available?
you should just add a gain plugin at the end of a channel strip and then automate the gain over time - that's what I do when I'm not feeling lazy
I’ve run into the same problem and do exactly what Colton says above, but I’ve never considered Andrew’s method! That would avoid the minor annoyance of not knowing how the gain plug-in is set when its window isn’t open.
Great advice in this thread 😊
Thank you for the quick responses. Using the gain is n idea I hadn’t considered. Assuming there is adequate headroom it shouldn’t be a problem to use it for track level loudness adjustment and will keep the volume automation values relative to each other. I started thinking maybe the trim field could be the answer but from what I’ve read it doesn’t seem to be but I need to understand it better.
In Logic Pro, there is a “relative” automation mode, so you can still draw in your automation and use your channel fader to adjust the overall volume.
Hey Chris, there is a small audio hick-up @ 5:46 where your voice doubles.
🤘🙏
