  • EN How did Pianos Maene, a family business from Flanders (Belgium), team up with Rafael Viñoly, the New York architect of Manhattan's tallest towers, to develop a new concept in concert pianos... with a curved keyboard and fan-shaped strings? This is the story I tell you (IN FRENCH) in L'Echo, the Brussels business daily: bit.ly/3zteMaH

    I gave this a "like". not because of the piano, but for Alexander who is exceptional in every respect.

    Odd that you title the video "...piano with curved keyboard..." and then NOT show either the keyboard or the hands and arm movements!

    Is the keyboard curved for ergonomic reasons?

    • @XUMbxl
      @XUMbxl  Před 2 lety +8

      Yes, it's the result of a discussion, seven years ago, between Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich on the ergonomic virtues of a curved keyboard. Attending architect Rafael Viñoly then said he would "do this thing". He designed the piano and, then, Belgian piano maker Chris Maene, who had already designed Barenboim's straight strung grand, made this particular instrument... That's the story

      @@XUMbxl without having seen the keyboard, I'm surprised that a pianist could adapt so quickly. But then again, it IS Alexander Malofeev!

      @@wuwupiano After trying the piano, he confessed that he was disoriented by the keyboard and that it would take him a few hours to get used to it... but, obviously, it's not bad!

      @@XUMbxl I played this piano and wasn't disoriented at all. Adapting was immediate, surprisingly. Extraordinary piano in every way.

    The hitch pins of the last three choirs before the bass are too close to the bar. The strings before the bridge and between the bridge and the hitch pins should run in the same directoin and they don't.
