Sometimes you're a Red Sox fan and there's a Yankee that you wish had been a Red Sox player, like O'Neill. Other times, you're a Yankee fan and there's a Red Sox player like Dustin Pedroia that you would have liked to have had as a Yankee.

I loved his competitiveness and his ability to come through in the clutch and most of all, unlike a lot of other modern players, I could NEVER think I would be trying harder than he was and I really loved that about him. In my book about the Yankees, I have O'Neill as one of the best Yankees of the dynasty. Jeter was great, but if there were 2 out in the bottom of the 9th and I had a choice, I bat O'Neill and he was one of the best fielders as well. One of the reasons why I have so much respect for him is that he settled his contracts quietly without trying to squeeze out every penny he could. O'Neill is the man.
