I’ve been threatened by guys in hostels “angreji baath karna hai tho dhoor jaake baath kar varna…”, been called all sorts of names, not for speaking English WITH people who prefer other languages, but simply around them with someone else. Indian people who have this disdain for their fluent English speaking counterparts are not uneducated either. Many of them are perfectly well educated and have degrees in engineering, medicine, commerce, law etc., sometimes up to the Ph.D or equivalent level. @@cyke1234 it can't because it is natively spoken by a ton of people in India. It puts them at an advantage and threatens other languages. The reason Urdu worked in Pakistan is that there were no native Urdu speakers.
@@MichelleObamasBBC Hindi is nobody’s native language. Hindi speaking states don’t remember their mother tongue but historically they have their own native languages
@@cyke1234yet another reason why English is a better neutral language. The growth of influence of Hindi has led to many regional languages being diluted down into just dialects of Hindi in recent times. This slowly leads to death of these languages, and often times the literature and history of them. But English being totally different from the linguistic style, has less chance to corrupt the languages quality.
Great animations! so satisfying to watch. Personally, I'd credit Games, Movies, and Series to improving my English drastically, because, in Games (especially MMORPG), I was forced to know the meaning of a certain word to complete a quest, whereas in Movies and Series, reading subtitles improved my reading speed by miles
Many tribes of northeast india which never had a written script use the latin script which the Britishers brought.. This in a way was very useful and helpful for recording our culture and traditions in a written form which our ancestors never had and for exposing us to the wider world outside. Today the languages are preserved in the latin script.
I feel like English is also important as a fact that it is universal and basically it is easier to translated in the form of other language ( Though leaving their charm major problem of translation) but you have to accept that there are not many people who can like pick a language and learn it easily as others and for a particular niche thing also and then having no use of it. So by having a magical translator tool like in cartoons English helps us to filter education and entertainment by a large magnitude and making the speaker's proficient around that thing. Also a main critique about English teaching in India is that they generally sometimes does not push you speak and the courses are not around making your vocabulary strong and thus using the most basic terms or not knowing most of the time what the word is needed there and this makes us be profoundly conscious about our English speaking skills and in turn greatly decreasing the main key thing that is confidence

The percentage in the video is wrong as far as I know. According to 2011 census 11.02% Indians speak English. Of which 0.02% speak it as mother tongue. In these 12 years the percentage has increased for sure. Also, I agree that Hindi destroyed Indian languages but in present times that's not the case. Even Hindi is considered language of illiterate by people nowadays. Also, for Mumbai it's not that you can't use Marathi, the thing is that most people there are not Maharashtrians, similar situation for Bengaluru. We can't blame some language for the situation rather we should focus on protecting our language.
One major key point you missed is that Indian languages as input language. Difference between normal Chinese and simplified Chinese is that you get Chinese keyboard, instruction, menu items on product and what not. So does in Japanese and Korean. Our people never took effort to simplify our language to be able to be computerized. No of languages doesn't matter what matters is the access of knowledge by it. The knowledge which will help you get better life. This is how English help you. Also been multilingual has its own perk.
Chinese keyboard? i really dont know if people use that rejecting normal keyboards in japanese and korean i can agree since japanese only need 48 kana and korean only need 24 letters

It is absolutely necessary to learn english and be able to speak properly but that doesn't mean you should neglect your mother tongue, this is something that people really need to understand. Moreover it is easier for children to learn in their mother tongue and it solidifies the basic education. They can then transfer to english easily.
My spoken english wasn't good I was from a hindi medium school, but in my college, one of my friends suggested me to watch movies etc with English subtitles. Dude, within 6 months I picked up correct pronunciations of words and got confidence to speak in public.
India is one of these developing country, so it obvious that people are expanding themselves in their own field and moreover india is status driven society, English does make sense. You know what if you have bunch of knowledge and don't have the fluency of English, there is a high Chance that you are rejected in the interviews. However, to tap the global market, English play the pinnacle role.
At its core, Language is key for communication. While knowing English lets you connect globally, it's important not to neglect your mother tongue. A significant portion of your life will likely involve interacting with people in your own region, where your native language holds special importance.
Your father is visionary who made you learn and get good at English. Many still struggles to get good education(including English) at early stage of life.
The point is that English is no more a symbol of colonialism, but more of a language for international business. Having such a high number of English speakers definitely gives us an inherent advantage over countries like China in world trade, and it's not just me saying it, go to any international media and see the factors they list as India's advantages over China. It is easier to do business with us because of our English proficiency. But having said that, I also believe that we should be proud of our own mother tongues and use it more in our daily lives as well, since it's a question of our culture, history and tradition that defines who we are.
The benefit of english is, there is no seperate writing and speaking english. The english that we speak is the same that we write, whereas in Indian languages there are formal and informal versions, making it uneccesarily complicated.

Why can’t Hindi be a neutral language
@@cyke1234 it can't because it is natively spoken by a ton of people in India. It puts them at an advantage and threatens other languages. The reason Urdu worked in Pakistan is that there were no native Urdu speakers.
@@MichelleObamasBBC Hindi is nobody’s native language. Hindi speaking states don’t remember their mother tongue but historically they have their own native languages
@@cyke1234 Because we Choose not To Kneel Before you Sangis...

And funniest thing is people who are saying "English is colonial language you should not learn" actually that people learned english and they will stop you when you are learning English. And English don't replace anyone's language and infact only 10%(already mentioned in video) people speak english did anyone forgot their mother language?(locally not in foreign) Never! If you compare with Hindi today more than 40% of population speaking it. And It also many old languages and dialects destroyed by Hindi and many will gone. Giving importance only certain set of people it will become advantage that group think like this if one person learned everything in Hindi and another person learned in non-Hindi language and they attend the exam like UPSC and one guy attend the exam in Hindi and another guy attend in English guess what? who will score better the Hindi guy. So instead of conducting in every Indian languages we can only conduct in English. How Brits impossed language on us the same thing is happening all over India in the name of Hindi and without diversity this country will become Hindia. Just think in this perspective if you are native Hindi speaker and imagine govt say everyone you should learn you should learn Marathi or Tamil. Hindi is not national language! And there is no national language. And worse thing is Hyderabad or Mumbai or Bangalore you can't even use mother tongue(many places like in shops, public transport, and in Airport only Hindi and English). And if you are still thinking English is destroying Indian languages, Hindi is doing it in another level! Respect every language, Respect everyone.

That is the mentality of Indians. They'll have problem accepting Indian language , but have no problem accepting a foreign language.
India india india. You have been run over by the briys for 4 00 years. Still no shame
Also been multilingual has its own perk.
who need simplified hindi keyboard when you cant easily write hindi words in roman language
Because that is inferior to directly typing in the keyboard. coding in hindi will forever be a nightmare@@umar7182

That's why china has bigger GDP than India it had to do nothing with english
