I watched him through his entire career. I had several white friends and two black friends. I think it was around 1984 when we first heard about the white boy thing. My white friends and I thought it was great. My black friends said they khew he was black all along. All of us rode the Bird express until.he retired. Best all around player Ive ever seen.Great reaction.
Enjoyed your reaction 😊 For me Larry Bird's trash talking, either broke a player down, or forced an opponent to be a better player, & it was the strength of the player, which way they were affected.......that was just a part of who Bird was 😊

For me, Jamal Mashburn has the best trash, talking story because it was during the dream team, and anybody knows Larry Bird knows that he was in so much pain that he was about through. In spite of all that Mashburn tells a story about how he was, even when it was over
I was a Knicks fan. Every time the Knicks smelled a victory, were ahead with a couple of seconds left on the clock, Larry Bird ALWAYS, ALWAYS found a way to beat us. There is a big reason why Patrick Ewing doesn't have a ring. And a whole lot of other superstars too. The closest to him being so clutch is MJ. But Larry was more dangerous because he was a much better passer than MJ. If you triple team him, he will absolutely find a way to get the basketball to a free teammate right under the basket for an easy layup. AND he had the highest % free throw shooter, so you couldn't just foul him at the end of the game like you could with Lebron! There was just nowhere to hide with Larry. A true legend. I hated him. Now I love and respect him!
In 1978, 1 played Patrick Ewing. I got 5 fouls he got 12 dunks. I was a 6’2” white boy. But Larry was my idle. (Actually I modeled my game after Rick Robey. I was an enforcer in the paint. )
