  • In 1969, a revolution roared through Wrigley Field, and a new generation of Cubs fans emerged. From throwing opposing team players home run balls back onto the field to releasing mice into the outfield to scare Lou Brock, the Bleacher Bums made every home game a little more interesting.
    "The Bleacher Bums, we had two goals in life: Help the Cubs win and make the other team miserable." -Mike Murphy

    The meanest thing I ever said from the bleachers was to the left fielder for the pirates in ‘03?.... I told him “even your mom thinks you suck”....it got a roar of laughter and a reaction from the poor guy playing left.

    I remember being a kid and not believing that anyone would ever throw a major league home run ball back onto the field. I still feel that way. A Hank Aaron home run! Are you kidding me?!!

    Ain't no get dang way I'm throwing a home run ball from Hank Aaron away. The 69 Cubs are my first live game experience ( Thanks Dad ) July vs Mets loss 9-5 but it was magical fun for a 7yr old kid in America 🇺🇸 where we live free or Die.

    I’ve only been to a game to Wrigley only once… however I am still a diehard fan of the Chicago cubs!
    If I had lived back in these times and was of age I would’ve been a bleacher bum!
    I consider myself a bleacher bum though

    My late Great Uncle told me stories about the 1969 Cubs when I was young and now I'm old. Now I told stories about the 2003 Cubs to my nephews and great nephews.

    My son was 14 when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. I wasn’t sure he had suffered as much as me to deserve it.

    The good old days when a normal fan could actually afford to attend the game and party in the bleachers. City's largest single's bar.

    Selma was a better cheerleader than a pitcher, that's why the Mets unloaded him.

    • @andrewpadaetz5549
      @andrewpadaetz5549 Před 3 lety +2

      Mets actually lost Selma in the expansion draft to San Diego-with all of those arms (Seaver, Koosman, Gentry, McAndrew, McGraw, Ryan etc.) they couldn't keep ALL of them. Pods then traded Selma to Cubs in April of '69 for Joe Niekro.

    It's understandable the focus would be on the Cubs in Chicago with their pennant fever because the other pro teams in the city weren't having a good year in 1969.

      True, the Bears were horrible, but they had Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus, and the Black Hawks were great with Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and tony Esposito, etc.
