The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Is Simply The BEST Ultra High Performance Summer Tire On The Market!

  • Everyone really liked the previous Michelin review on the LTX, so I thought I would bring in a few more Michelin tires to review and look at, starting with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4s is simply the best Ultra High Performance Summer Tire on the market and you're about to find out why! This tire is an update from the old Michelin Pilot Super Sport which at one time was the benchmark!
    The best applications for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S include high end BMW’s, Mercedes AMG cars, Porsche, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari’s, and any other car that you need the ultimate level of performance.
    This is very much a maximum performance tire built from lessons learned in endurance racing. But it comes with some need to know details which I cover in the review.

    Man this dude knows EXACTLY what he's talking about. I have a 2018 C63s that had the Sport Cup 2's. Yes, they gripped but were absolutely dangerous in even slightly wet conditions. They also wore out very very fast. After that (and I do have the staggered setup) I went with these and it's a whole different level. Even more grip and I notice my traction control doesn't kick in nearly as much and I can launch it off the line better. Also, I've driven the car in real hard rain and didn't even notice any skittishness from the tires at all. Everything he said was spot on. These tires are worth every penny in my opinion and I've put them to the test on the C63s. I might even put them on the GT-R.

    I run MPS4S on my 2001 BMW 740i Sport. These are truly God tires, driving in rain with these tires in a heavy car like the e38 that was really built for the Autobahn is an experience, the car and tires were just blowing past everyone like it was dry out. I live in ATX and most of the year when they warm up they are like glue but if it gets below 40 F they start acting weird.

      I am looking at going with the 255/35/20 , 315/30/21 PS4s. My dealership believes these will work in theory in replacing the O.E. Perillis but, have no direct experience in doing so. Are you aware of anyone running these PS4s in 255/35/20 , 315/30/21 on the new 911 (992) ?

    For anyone trying this tire for TRACK or Driver Education and are intermediate to expert, I did 4 (20 min session) on my first time with this tire. The traction was really good, last session, the outside left front which was getting most of the abuse that day delaminated the outside tread. Now that said, I think this might be partially my fault, outside temp. 85 started with 33psi in fronts, the tires went all the way to 47-48 psi when I got them hot on the track and I think with the pressure and how hard I was abusing they either failed because they were out of the operating ranges or it could of been defective. I check tread depth and I'm already half way through the tread life in one day. Grips good, tread life not so good. If your not tracking at all, was great tire for spirit driving and did do great in wet roads. I'm going to try out the Pilot Cup 2 next. Not planning on going at speed in the rain if I get caught in a small afternoon storm will just drive slow or pull over for a coffee.

    • @Tom--Ace
      @Tom--Ace Před rokem

      Your pressures were too high! If you're doing track driving, normally the aim is to have somewhere in the region of 30-35 psi when HOT. 47-48 psi is failure territory under track conditions, but you should ask more knowledgeable track experts

    I put these tires on my 2019 Nissan 370Z sport to replace the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. My only complaint with the tire is that the sidewalls are much less stiff than the Bridgestone's sidewalls. This has resulted in a more comfortable ride with less harshness but the tire is less precise and more vague in its handling. I believe this tire is better suited for a GT touring type of car where comfort is important. For my car and for the kind of driving that I like to do, a more responsive tire is better.
    I had to increase my tire inflation pressure about 11 psi over what I used in the Bridgestones to compensate for the increased flexibility of the MPS4S tires.

They just arrived yesterday and I will be installing them this week. I hope they give the same performance as the s007. I would’ve bought the same ones but the next best thing were the Michelin’s. Maybe they will get stickier with time regardless of the sidewalk.

    • @videomaniac108
      @videomaniac108 Před 2 lety +2

      @@uswee I'm running 44 psi in the front pair and 49 psi in the rear. I measure my tread depth every 1K miles and adjust the tire pressures accordingly to achieve even tread wear across the width of the tread. It took we quite awhile to zero in on these pressures, as I would nudge the pressures in 1 psi increments each time. Another side benefit is that the higher pressures suit my driving preferences, with a firmer and better controlled ride with the tradeoff of a little more ride harshness. I had previously installed a set of Hotchkis anti-roll bars on the front and rear to stiffen up the suspension a little more and improve turn-in response, again with the sacrifice of some more ride comfort.

    This summer I will get my third set of these in 235/35/2019 for my beloved MK6 TDI...Amazing tires...I think I only get 20k miles (30k km) at max out of them though...The side walls can get some bublles if you hit a pothole VERY HARD...Last summer, we were on our way back from Toronto to Montreal and I hit an indentation on the interstate at 110-120 km/h and I thought the tire must have been seriously damaged, but, except a little buble on the sidewall, Nothing srious happened to it..The rim (VW Cadiz 19 made by Borbet in Germany) got a noticeable dent (Nothing major though)...That rim was refurbished, so it was not at it's maximum strength...If we can get 30k miles with thses tires like it's claimed by Michelin, they would be an excellent bang for the buck, but I am still happy with them...Now I have to fork out 1679.74 CAD$ to get a set compared to 1536.97 CAD$ in 2021 (a 9.3% incease in 2 years becuase of inflation!). There you have it folks from a real life & repetitive consumer!

    I just installed these tires on my Tesla Model 3 Performance. I had no idea they were this well regarded by performance experts. I kinda feel I went overboard now. Lol. I was just looking for tires that would be a good fit for my car. Lol.
    I'm curious to see what my acceleration will feel like with these tires.

      How has It gone? Which year do you have and what tires were on originally? I have a 2022 M3P and it came factory with Perelli P zero PZ4, they were nuts when they were new but looking for replacements soon.

      @@carterlongcor3233 So far, so good. I have a 2022 M3P. One complaint I have is that they're noisier than the Pirelli P-Zero that came with the car. The reviews I read and watched said the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S were quieter than the Pirelli P-Zero. In my experience, the Pirelli P-Zero was quieter from what I remember.
      It gets quite noisy at speeds of around 65mph to 70mph on certain types of roads. I do a lot of driving and so far it's holding up pretty good. It's not wearing out as fast as the Pirelli P-Zero but then again I'm not flooring it as hard as I did to the Pirelli P-Zero and I haven't taken to the drag strip either.

    I have a question for owners of these tires. I have a 2020 Hyundai Elantra gt n line, I want these since I live in Tucson AZ and rarely does it ever go under 40-30F so I should be good in the winter, even better in the summer. Thing is I do a lot of Doordash. So does the tread go away fast? I drive around 150-200 miles a day in the city. Would you still recommend these tires or not? Not saying I’m smashing the pedal all the time but when I do I want to be ready haha. So please let me hear your thoughts and opinions or other tire recommendations etc.
